I'm on my second play-through right now. I've gotten all my allies
together and I am ready to head to Redcliffe to move on to the
Landsmeet.
I remember from my first playthrough, however, that
once I was at this stage of things, there was a cut-scene and fight
involving the ambush of the party camp by shrieks and darkspawn. I see this mentioned on the wiki, but no discussion of what triggers it. It has not happened on this playthrough, and I can't figure out why.
The
only thing I can think of that is significantly different is that I
didn't have Alistair with me this time in the Dead Trenches when we got a
look at the archdemon. Could this be the problem?
Mssing cut-scene?

I think I played a tank on my last playthrough so Alistair stayed in camp the whole time. I get the shrieks at camp fight every time. I think it is supposed to be after 4 of the 5 main quests: (elves, dwarves, mages, highcliff, Sacred Ashes). But there are other automatic cut scenes they have to get in there too, so if you aren't traveling enough maybe you aren't giving it enough of a chance for all the cut scenes to play out. For example: when you complete dwarves, there is a scene where you run across some dwarves being attacked by two ogres and other darkspawn. There is also a cut scene where you are attacked by dwarf rebels. So if it happens that the shrieks attacking at camp is queued to fall in the same time frame, you have to travel a little to get all these events to play out.

Does the shriek attack happen for non-Dalish wardens? It might do, I've only gotten it with my Dalish though since it brings back a character from my origin story. For me, it triggered after I had done Sacred Ashes with 3 treaties completed. It has a habit of not playing even for some Dalish origin people I know, so it's a little buggy for sure.

That is weird. I thought it was pretty much automatic. I can count on it to show up just like I can count on Zevron to show up.

It happened for me after I finished three of the main quests (Tower, Elves, Orzammar). I was a City Elf so this should happen for every character. A dalish elf gets more out of it because of the origin character I guess.

The attack should happen when traveling after completing 3 (or 4, when you see Redcliffe and the Urn as 2 separate quests) main quests.

The game does bug out at that juncture though. There are a few people around who also didn't get the cut-scene at one play-through or another, myself included. It happened once during three play-throughs, so I'm guessing the bug is random.

Thank you for the responses. I've completed EVERYTHING that can be completed prior to going to Denerim for the Landsmeet, had every available conversation with every companion, I've spent two days leaving camp to travel to various places then coming back to camp in an attempt to get the scene to trigger, but still no joy. It's just not playing for me. When I get to camp, I get no automatic cut-scenes. Drat, I really wanted to go through that scene again because I wasn't paying very close attention the first time.
