I read somewhere that it will have bearing and that the reason Kaidan, Liara, and Ash weren't really in ME2 is because Bioware "cared so much [for them]" and wanted to ensure they all survived to ME3. Not to mention the picture of Kaidan/Ash/Liara is face-down if you pursue another romance in ME2.
For my main Shepard, I didn't pursue any romances at all. Well, I did pursue Kaidan, but I killed him off (lol) due to his extremely boring nature. But I mostly just had issues with pursuing any relationship, period. I'm their CO for goodness sakes! It felt so unprofessional, especially in the first game (notably Ash and Kaidan) because they are your subordinates.

If you romanced Kaidan in ME1, and moved on to Thane in ME2; supposedly there is going to be some "major" consequences in ME3. I'm curious on how this will effect the game so I have a couple of saves just for this purpose.
Anyway Thane>Kaidan.

At least with Garrus he sticks by you. Even Thane, though it's slightly sad loving a dyin gman.

I may be fighting a losing battle here, but that is so gross a misrepresentation of Kaidan's e-mail that words fail me. I would characterize the e-mail like this:
"I'm sorry I was such an idiot on Horizon. I've been struggling to move on from your death for two years... even tried going out with a doctor on the Citadel but my heart just wasn't in it. Seeing you again, it's clear to me that you're the only one I could ever love. I can't just forget everything that's happened since you died, but when your mission is over, look me up. Maybe we can put the pieces of our relationship back together."
