This is just a thought the sorta balloned on me and I just need to put it out (Normally I don't get into this much detail but I thought it owuld be an interesting concept).

For a DLC mission pack I thought what if Shepard found an unusual signal beacon in a remote system, initially thinking it a Prothean device.  It turns out to be a collector trap that places Shepard into a comatose state forcing Shepard to relive altered versions of past experiences in an attempt to essentially lobotomize him/her.

However Shepards subconcious attempts to fight this off which leads to a huge mental battle against the control device.  An interesting idea though would be your squadmates would be from memories associated with those old battles, here are some examples of different mission revisits (keep in mind these would be altered to try to defeat Shepard's fighting spirit and reason to destroy the reapers.

Missions:

Eden Prime revisit   -  Squadmates: Nihlus and Jenkins   -  Boss: Cole (Claiming Shephard failed the coloney)
Noveria Revisit  - Squad: Han Olar (The Volus) and a Rachni - Boss: Benezia
Virmire Revisit - Squad: Ashley/Kaiden (Whichever died) and Kerrahi (The Salarian, I'm blanking on his name) - Boss Saren

Citadel Revisit - Squad: Benezia and Saren (In the end you did see some good in them so this would make an interesting team)  Boss - Soverign

You could also go farther into Shephards past by using the different backgrounds

Spacer Background > ship invasion - Squad: Shephards Parents (Marines)
Colonist Background > Slaver attack - Squad Shephards Parents (farmers)
Earth Background > Street survival - Squad: Shephards Gang friends
Ruthless> Torfan Massacre - Squad Major Kyle and anothe marine
Akuze> Squad - Toombs

Obviously this could be too much work for a DLC ( A free one anyway) but it would be an interesting concept allowing to see different concepts of characters, get more lore background, and maybe see more abuot how
Shephards Decisions and fears affected him/her depending on your Paragon/Renegade route.

Constructive criticism appreciated.

CoT: Mass Effect?

:D

It's a cool idea, but I would probably avoid having the Collectors be the antagonists, since they become a non-issue at a certain point in the game (spoilers, I guess, but...come on).  This sort of scheme might fit a rogue cell of Cerberus (or even Cerberus proper) better.  Or someone new entirely.

Not a bad idea at all though.  It would be really cool to explore Shepard's background beyond little nothing dialog throwaways.
