Kate is from Bringing Down the Sky and Lizbeth is from Ferros.  They survived by being minor characters who don't spark any particular interest, and thus don't draw fire.

Dr. Lizbeth Baynham is from Feros.  She's the daughter of Juliana, another ExoGeni scientist.  She's the one who stood up to ExoGeni when she learned what they were doing to Zhu's Hope, and who helps Shepard at the ExoGeni building (after shooting at him!)

Kate Bowman is an engineer on Asteroid X57 during the Bring Down The Sky mission.  She's the one who risks her life, and sacrifices her brother, to help Shepard save Terra Nova.

I personally think both are strong side characters.  I spent a good deal of points on them.  They are really no less prominent characters than Emily Wong, Dr. Chakwas, Nihilus, Jenkins, Kahoku, etc - and only slightly less present than Captain Anderson.

As for why other people like crew members went down so fast, hate.  There's a lot of Tali hate, and apparently some alien hate.  Honestly, considering how much hate I often see for Ashley, I'm surprised she lasted this long!

Yeah I made it one of my goals to ensure Ash stayed alive for a bit.  When they were all busy ripping Tali apart I figured I could chip away at some of the lead dogs and keep Ash out on top, but then two or three people caught sight of her and that was that.

She did good though.  Shame she didn't beat Wrex.

Luc0s deducted one point from Chakwas, bringing her to four. Hsaath mistakenly read that as one point remaining, I guess.
