During your recruitment of Thane, he utilizes his eidetic memory to call upon the knowledge that attacking the Collectors would require passing through the Omega-4 relay, and that no one has ever returned.

He plays a pivotal role in informing Shepard of this extreme, life-changing fact even after Shepard has been reminded about it twenty times.

I always have him and Miranda in the squad for every part of the suicide mission, since they both have warp. So, def. not useless!

What about Jack? Shes pretty useless in my opinion, i think i used her once in the suicide mission and i had to bring along Samara just so they could do a succesful Pull+Throw combo.

Ouch!

She can be awesome at the biotic barrier if loyal, then!  *attempts to find another exit route*

Can I ask why you always post in bold?

Thane, Grunt and Zaeed are all useless.

Again, Grunt and Zaeed provide a lot of points at the Hold The Line portion of the suicide mission, Thane does not.

I'm taking a role/story telling aspect of things (see my sig.)

I do not know of whatever hidden "points" this Hold The Line aspect is.  For all we know, in the storytelling, anyone can "hold the line."  All the characters I used did so just fine.

Yes, anyone can hold the line, but the devs have said that the people holding the line contribute a score value that, when combined, is used to determine who lives out of your Hold  The Line squad, though I admit I don't know the values but the extremes of who provides the least points and most are Mordin and Grunt respectively. Devs have also hinted that Garrus and Zaeed contribute a lot of points, Thane could still contribute a fair score, but not as much as others.

Thane's probably reading this thread. His feelings are going to be hurt.

I guess I'll let Thane do the biotic barrier part next time so he can feel 'useful' again.

No Jack bashing please. Shes wonderful at doing the Biotic barrier.

As to Thane... ah... first time around I sent him back to the ship. Everyone survived even with Mordin holding the line. Second time around he got default radio boy duty.

For the biotic barrier, why cant you have two people do the barrier? Like have Miranda start it and then Thane finish it? make them actually useful then...

You're drunk if you think Thane is useless. Raise your difficulty and come back and post.

Thane is great to take with you during the vent run.... his warp and head shots work wonders on collectors... especially if you bring Samara and set up warp bombs.

Hmm, Then I state : Jack is useless, I HAVE NEVER EVER USED her, She does not have good powers to use in combat, so I don't use her, She is useless at the end of the game, doesn't have any kind of help to me and she's just a plain annoying character always ****ing and whinning about how hard it is. I don't know if it's intentional or just bad writting.

Thane also contributes greatly to mitigating EDI's emotional distress which the poor AI constantly experiences due to lack of intaraction with other AIs and Joker's snide insinuations, aggravated by occasional disregard of her importance, competance, loyalty to the mission and averall utillity from Commander Shepard and several other team members.

That makes him more useless though...

Besides, I always play on insanity, it cant go higher. I wish there was a Legendary setting.

The "Hold the Line" reasoning is a bit of a stretch. While Grunt and Zaeed are referenced has being good for the job due to the stats they contribute to the defense check, that doesn't mean they have the highest. The article you're referencing is simply giving examples, making it an invalid point to use. Thane contributes to this stat, and unless you have concrete data on just how much, you can't really associate this with his "uselessness."

Actually this was from a dev here who made quite a large post about it since they were so many threads popping up saying Mordin dying is a "glitch", so he came on to dismiss that. Grunt and Zaeed were specifically referenced by the dev.

I wish there was some sort of reward, if you beat it on insanity, since I've beaten it more than 1 time, it's pretty annoying at some times, and some side missions seem freakin' harder then the "Suicide " mission. besides I didn't even get the achievement for completing the game on Insanity, also a downer lol.

If she is loyal when you recruit  Samara then she shines.... squad warp ammo.

On hardcore and insanity I agree she is useless because husk have armor... but on lower difficulties (veteran and below) she can use shocwave on the biotic bubble run (bye bye husk rush).

Even on insanity the husk waves were god damn easy, with the right squad selection and weapons.
But yeah... Squad warp ammo, not really good for me, I use different squadmates for different places, for example I use Grunt and Miranda for Collector ships, where there are husks etc. Because she can Warp, and grunt can concussive shot.
Still, jack was useless to me, personaly.

I found Thane to be an outstanding team mate for combat. Give him a Viper and stuff just dies. He's great vs collectors because he's got warp for the barriers and sniper rifles are great vs armor. That combined with his lack of special purpose on the suicide mission makes him great on the suicide mission as a squad mate.

wow, what kind of crack is everyone smoking? Thane is close to the best squadmate in combat. Warp- barriers and armor, throw-best biotic CC,can use sniper rifle. he is crazy good. And no, garrus/legion/tali cannot replace him because they do not have warp.

Dude, on Haestrom Thane once took out the Colossus by himself while Garrus and I were busy killing the other geth. Doesn't sound useless to me.

For the last time, I mean he is useless in the SUICIDE MISSION, not insquad combat.

He doesn't fill a role in the suicide mission, outside of the combat squad, successfully.

I think most of you Thane lovers are unaware of what the OP is trying to say:

That Thane is useless to the suicide mission. Which is the point of the game. To argue his usefulness as a squadmate is not the argument, nor has any bearing here.

Adept + Thane + Samara is a pretty killer combo on insanity (just finished a playthrough recently with that team).

Adept + Thane + Miranda is also good.

Your argument is that he doesn't have a specific role in the suicide mission, I disagree. Take him with you to the final boss fight. Warp for the Reaper Baby, Throw for the Collectors on the platforms, plus he can stay at a pretty respectable distance thanks to his sniper skills.
