Just pointing out the massive mess they made for themselves.  I think it is the best explanation for when they start cutting folks from ME3 or people start getting cameo'ed.  Just too many permutations to even consider pursuing.  Or they'll just make 10 generic romances where your past decisions basically have no effect on them outside a single 10 second "confrontation" which is also plausible.

Whatever they do i don't think there is any chance of making folks happy at this point.  ME2 just introduced way too many variables.  If they had stuck with the original LI's in ME2 and added 1 or 2 per gender as part of ME2 things would have been so much simpler come ME3.  They would have been able to craft the more personalized conclusions for the romances that folks are looking for.  Spilled milk and all that....

Tali and Miri have the biggest fanbases here, so if anything Bioware knows if those two are not in ME3 there will be a ****storm.

This is the kind of thing I think folks would want to see but aren't going to get. 

Would Ash/Kaidan/Liara all have the exact same reaction to Shep cheating?  I don't think so, but they most likely will come ME3.  

And how about the other side of the coin.  Shouldn't Miranda/Jack/Tali all have different reactions to seeing your old LI return and different depending on who that LI is/was?  Would be great to see but its just not feasible.

As long as they don't privilege one set of LIs over another, I'm happy. Heck, I'll be happy with. "We have important work to do, but when this is over..." cameo.

The thing is tho, Ashley was very hostile towards Liara. Ashley and Tali know each other, and if you romanced Ashley then Tali there would be alot of hostile there because Tali knew about Ash. That should be unique and Bioware should do it.

Doesn't help that Ashely is usually untrusting of aliens (or racist if you want to go there). So getting 'ditched' or 'cheated on' with a Quarian will be like a slap in the face.

I don't disagree, just saying don't get your hopes up.  There are just too many permutations of how that "confrontation" would play out.  My guess is no matter who your ME1 LI was and who your ME2 LI was the scene is going to play out in a very similar fashion for everyone.

In my mind it's most probably going to degenerate into:

Miranda/Jacob = run off elsewhere/back to Cerberus/freelance/whatever

Thane/Jack = dead, Thane has an expiry date, Jack has too and both have a high chance of getting themselves killed in daily life

Garrus/Tali = Fling. Horrible interspecies failed romance thing.

Hence ME3 will have new LI options and the ME1 LIs will basically be "You had an LI in ME2 yes/no".
Kelly doesn't count for anything now, she won't in ME3

I agree with this. It seems like the most reasonable outcome to the whole romance thing so that ME LI's become the main focus in ME3.

As a Liara fan, I have to assure you that people will feel cheated no matter how they resolve things.  The ME1 LIs basically got screwed in ME2.  Don't be surprised if it happens again, especially with a LI who is dead in a lot of people's games.

Not that I wish that on anyone.  I just expect things to go poorly, because I've seen it.

Jack should be totally flipping out when your old LI comes aboard, but I have a feeling that except for a cuss word or two her dialogue will be pretty much the same as Tali's which will be the same as Miranda's.
