As a Liara fan, I have to assure you that people will feel cheated no matter how they resolve things.  The ME1 LIs basically got screwed in ME2.  Don't be surprised if it happens again, especially with a LI who is dead in a lot of people's games.

Not that I wish that on anyone.  I just expect things to go poorly, because I've seen it.

I can understand why they did that with Kaidan/Ashely and Liara. Think about it. It's poseable to have only two surviors, that can realy hurt, also ME3 is the last game. They can't pull a ME2 because not only would the Tali and Miri fans (like me) would be very pissed off and we want closure. Also Miri is the hardest to kill off, the only way to get her killed is to bring her to the human-reaper non loyal.

Great work there, OP. Very well reasoned and interesting, and so damn logical too.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for a showdown though...

Especially with your profile pic. :D

Jack should be totally flipping out when your old LI comes aboard, but I have a feeling that except for a cuss word or two her dialogue will be pretty much the same as Tali's which will be the same as Miranda's.

Oh god, that's going to be intense. They'd fail really hard if that scene wasn't intense at all.

God I hope its not.  That was about the worst line I ever heard in a video game.

Meh, I liked it.

If Jack had said it?  Sure.  Not coming from Liara though, it is just so out of place and out of character.

OP's post is good for people who don't quite realize how fast choices start branching in an RPG like Mass Effect. While I think that ME3 should have more time spent on romances and other relationships with your squaddies than ME1 or 2, I don't think it's going to happen. I would like to see some kind of scene other than a formulaic 'roll in the hay' before the final mission, like perhaps a date somewhere where you could have some sort of conversation with your LI about things... I know ME isn't a dating sim, but I'd like to see more development of the relationships, and not necessarily just the romantic ones either (meeting Garrus's father might be interesting, whether or not you're banging him, ditto with Ash's sisters).

That's just it though, her character whether we like it or not has changed since ME1. I wish we were given a much better explanation of why, but after the comics and a DLC I'm sure we'll find out something. There's time to salvage it, and it's not like the coffee cup thing is a meme of her or anything. Just a few of the hardcore fans even reference it.

I think it was a bad metaphor.  She should have just said something like 'I'll crush him' and crushed a coffee cup in her hands to illustrate.

What did Liara say that? I recall her saying she would flay somebody with her mind, but not that.

And she had the crazy eyes when I visited Illium, Shepard wants to run away.

I never liked Liara so I did not care, but Ashley pretty much told me to screw off so I went with Miri who I find the best LI in the series. If Bioware tries to force me to romance Ashley or even Liara I will become a Krogan and attack there head office.

Just shows me that whoever wrote the scene didn't understand Liara.  /shrug  Nothing they ever do will get me to accept that "reunion".

Well, I never liked Miranda so i don't really care either.  They can ship her off to cameo land for all I care if it takes away from development of the ME1 LI's.  So long as they don't force Miranda onto my team the way they did in ME2 they can do whatever they want.

I know how they will resolve this!

ME1 LI runs into the room, and says "I can't believe you slept with him/her." They don't even need to redo the dialogue for each possible ME2 LI because they use him or her instead of a name.

Then Shepard will have his/her dialogue wheel:
Charm - I am sorry.
Middle Left - Can't we talk about this....
Intimidate - I apologise? You apologise!
Top Right - I thought we were finished. I moved on.
Middle Right - They were there, you weren't.
Bottom Right - You thought we were steady? HA!

Then depending on what happens, you will have a break-up scene with the ME2 LI (which will be like one sentence long) or a reaffirmation scene with them.

Assuming you did not burn both bridges, get sex scene.

Then never hear about it again till the epilogue which will have a written blurp of the final outcome a la Dragon Age.

You're probably right, though I doubt we get that many options in the dialogue. :(

Well I've stayed faithful as they say with one of my ME1 LIs thus far in one of my playthroughs... and oddly enough with Liara. I never cared that much for Kaidan after his little "I didn't think you were... one of those" outburst, and I always thought Ash was a total dimbleby, so I have to hope for one ;)

See, this is the mistake you're making:  You think things are different for you than it is for me.  It isn't.  Its exactly the same.  Bioware can choose to resolve the complicated romances however they want, and if the move from ME1 to ME2 is any indication Miranda and Tali and all the other ME2 LI fans are doing to be very upset, just as the ME1 LI fans are currently.  You should be looking at us and saying, "There but for the grace of Bioware go I."

I don't say that to be mean.  I like Miranda.  I like Tali.  I hope they are both in ME3 as squadmates and fully romancable.  But that's not the Bioware formula.

I'm not saying it can't happen the way you want it to happen.  I'm just saying you shouldn't be surprised when it doesn't.  We were caught off guard.  You shouldn't be.

I hate to say it, but I romanced Miranda and Liara simply because I'm expecting a catfight in ME3.

To be fair, is there a Bioware formula for this kind of thing. The closest analogue would be BG/SOA/TOB and NWN/SOU/HOTU. In all cases, continuity was strongest between 1 and 3 and 2 and 3 than 1 and 2. But ME3 isn't an expansion pack so I have no clue what will happen.

Ya but you will be getting closure and such in ME3. If they pulled a ME2 on Miri and Tali then there would be no closure and that would ****** off alot of people.
