Thanks for the charts and things OP. I tried to think of the permutations of this in my head and ended up with a mess raging in my skull. Thanks for clearing that out for me. :)

I think that Bioware planned Kaidan/Ash and Liara romances originally over the trilogy, with Miri and Jacob being the alternate romances in ME2, for those that either didn't play/had no li in ME or chose to 'move on' in ME2. Thane, Garrus and Tali were added in for the fans, and didn't seem as fleshed out (literally) as the Miri and Jacob ones were. Now that they're in, I think that the original lis will still be better fleshed out in ME3, with Thane, Garrus and Tali getting the same treatment as ME2.

Tali/Garrus/Thane: Oh hey Shepard...about... you know...ME2

Shepard: fling, ends it/True Lu..love, carries on

Tali/Garrus/Thane: Busy/Busy/Busy

Quest comes up.

The hit on line

The should we/shouldn't we line(s)

and finally the big pay off for all of our hard work. No more is then said... ever.

Just saying then, some people will feel cheated because of the "cat fight" with Liara and Ash.

As a Liara fan, I have to assure you that people will feel cheated no matter how they resolve things.  The ME1 LIs basically got screwed in ME2.  Don't be surprised if it happens again, especially with a LI who is dead in a lot of people's games.

Not that I wish that on anyone.  I just expect things to go poorly, because I've seen it.

I can understand why they did that with Kaidan/Ashely and Liara. Think about it. It's poseable to have only two surviors, that can realy hurt, also ME3 is the last game. They can't pull a ME2 because not only would the Tali and Miri fans (like me) would be very pissed off and we want closure. Also Miri is the hardest to kill off, the only way to get her killed is to bring her to the human-reaper non loyal.

See, this is the mistake you're making:  You think things are different for you than it is for me.  It isn't.  Its exactly the same.  Bioware can choose to resolve the complicated romances however they want, and if the move from ME1 to ME2 is any indication Miranda and Tali and all the other ME2 LI fans are doing to be very upset, just as the ME1 LI fans are currently.  You should be looking at us and saying, "There but for the grace of Bioware go I."

I don't say that to be mean.  I like Miranda.  I like Tali.  I hope they are both in ME3 as squadmates and fully romancable.  But that's not the Bioware formula.

I'm not saying it can't happen the way you want it to happen.  I'm just saying you shouldn't be surprised when it doesn't.  We were caught off guard.  You shouldn't be.

Ya but you will be getting closure and such in ME3. If they pulled a ME2 on Miri and Tali then there would be no closure and that would ****** off alot of people.

We'll get closure, but with all of the possible outcomes, there will probably be a lot of cut and paste.

Will we?  I'm not so sure.

I expect there will be some kind of acknowledgement, but it might not amount to what I'd consider closure.

Jacob was the worse LI in the game. Just look at the boards or polls.

Why do you think Bioware ledt them out? They did't do it so they could laugh at fans getting pissed off.

At this point I'm not really sure.  A lot of what they said doesn't make sense to me anymore.

In any event, I'm not so sure the ME1 LIs will make anything more than a quick cameo in ME3, which may or may not produce feelings of satisfaction and closure.

/shrug You had closure in ME2 right before the suicide mission where they both died.

Look, I honestly wouldn't wish what they did to the ME1 LI's on the fans of the ME2 LI's.  It completely sucked and was about the worst example of story telling I've seen in a long time.  If something doesn't give though ALL the LI's are going to suffer because of the sheer number of them.  If BW hadn't cast out the ME1 LI's in ME2 I'd be all for the new LI's getting what they deserve.

Remember what Casey Hudson said though "Some of the ME1 characters are back, and recruitable (more than you might think), and the ones that aren't still play an important role in the story and will be around for ME3 - which we can't say for the new characters."

Don't be surprised when the new characters are getting cameo'ed and reduced roles in ME3, that is if Casey is going to live up to his words here and bring back the ME1 LI's as important parts of the story.

Me or Miri never died so there is no closure. Sorry if Miri is reduced to a cameo and I am forced to either romance Ashley or dump her and pursue a new LI or osmethingl ike that I will be very disapointed. In ME2 you had a choice, in ME3 there won't be. This is the end.

I had no choice in ME2 and yes I was very disappointed.  I feel for the ME2 fans I really do, and actually I don't believe the ME1 fans are going to get much better. :(

I didn't do the Jacob romance either, my femsheps interaction with him was a turn off.  I kept the convos strictly about upgrades, the mission or before and after his quest.

My thought that Miri and Jacob were always planned as lis for ME2 was based on them having their own game leading up to the release of ME2, making them a familiar couple to the players.  Of course they can die and not appear in ME3, in which case were back to ME1 lis fleshed out and the rest, emails.

Liara will most likely be a squadmate because of all the dev Bioware has put into her, the shadow brooker plot and the fact she is the only one who can not die. You also got a kiss scene (tho it was cheesy) and she was nice to you unlike Kaidan/Ashely who told you to screw off.

But unlike Jacob, Miri has one of the best romances and a huge fanbase. Also the point she is VERY hard to kill means Bioware has plans for her. The thing is, majority of players will make sure everyone survives unless youare a dick and killed someone off for no reason.

For a non-trivial number of players, their LI might be dead. I think Mirand has a great chance to come back, but we might also have to settle for the same amount of content the Ash/Kaidan fans got. There's always the option of staying single in ME3 if need be.

Most Liara fans hate that scene.  In fact its one of our biggest complaints.  It wasn't cheesy, it was confusing and frustrating and left most of us stunned.  I doubt you'll be satisfied with a scene like that for Miranda in ME3.

I know that!  The lis I mentioned were made for the fans that weren't happy with the ones that were put in ME1.  Bioware says that this is why Thane/Garrus and Tali were added!

You still got something while people who romanced Ashley/Kaidan got a big F-u. It might have been porly done but at least you got something. Doing something like that to Miri is not logical BECAUSE this is the last ME game with Shepard and his team. There needs to be closure for all LI and not some lame camoe.

True that, just go to youtube and watch end videos, people are asking how to get a full survival and others saying how to do it. Overall, most people attempt to have everyone survive. In a way, it is like a score and no one wants to be second place.

Well they have to be doing something different with the LIs from 1 and 2, after they said that you'd be rewarded for staying loyal to your ME1 LI.

I don't disagree that there should be closure for all LIs.  I'm just saying its not a sure thing, or maybe even likely.

I'd really like all the LIs to be squadmates with the option to continue the romance in a new way, adding depth beyong the boy meets girl (or girl meets girl or human meets alien) formula Bioware has used for about 10-15 years now.  I just doubt that will happen.
