Most polls I've seen have him the most popular other than the love interests who clearly couldn't be the one returning as people would be even more upset that someone else's love interest came back and theirs didn't. All the love interests have good reasons for not being the returning character. Also Oghren has the most room for growth as a character.
finally a reasonable post. kudos man.

Shoulda known it would be him, ugh.. Romance bad, crude and socially unacceptable, yep that sells games. Beer hall mentality. I bet they add "*burp* hey pull my finger.." Ohhhhhhhhh wait they did that when Lelianna thought he was mourning Branka's death. and can we have more of Ohgren saying "Yeah I'd do her.." (his reference to Wynne) Really made me cringe, is that what bioware thinks is funny? To be honest, that's just sad..

I am not into all that "role-playing" stuff tho. I never really cared bout romances either. I only care bout the story line and combat.

Look on the bright side Oghren's a dad now, a HUGE life changing event and makes him more then just that guy who farts and pukes, now he's the family man. You can bet thats gonna have a big effect on his character.

My stuff won't carry over to Awakenings anyways lol (except the rto stuff LOL) Face it, Ohren was so repulsive his wife left him for another woman. LOL
I have to admit, I can understand why women wouldn't like Oghren. Aside from being disgusting in every way he see's women as sexual objects. I'm hoping a kid and wife will ground him more as a character and less of a walking joke, although he better still be funny as hell!

Honest answer: I would rather have the
developers bring back/write companions they WANT to write, rather than
the ones the community wants (within reason). They are the creative
minds that run it all, I don't wanna cripple them by forcing them to
write in a companion they don't want to write in.
Wow I never thought of it that way, but your right. They love Oghren and they must have had blast writing for him. I remember I read in an interview a LONG time ago, you don't make a game for fans, you make one for yourself and hope they like it.

If my developers said they couldn't or wouldn't write for a certain character, there would be immediate job openings. LOL Too many out there looking for work, they don't own their jobs anymore. Although most think they do (I deal with programmers a lot).
Anyways I vented and it's over. I'm going back to learning my new keyboard, I'm up to about 100 typos a minute so far..
Oh and I'm a guy, my girlfriend teased me into playing a female character, to see things from the ladies side. Really opened my eyes to alot. I was raised a southern gentleman. So guys like Oghren, weren't in my circle of friends, nor did I think they were funny. Buy no worries, I'm obviously in the minority.

It's not that they couldn't or wouldn't. It's about not telling the artist what to paint, so to speak.

Wynne can be in Awakenings. She's just not in your party.
Sten is going to his homeland. So he can't be in Amaranthine.
Alistair is king or dead or drunk or something else. With some imports he could be in your party, sure. But given that he's king in a lot of games, he's not worth the investment as a party member in this expansion with limited slots for recruitable npc's.
Zevran, Dog, Oghren, Shale, Wynne are the only real options Bioware had.

As for developers writing a game to please themselves, this explains why so many fail. Poor business practices. You create a product people want or need. And try to please the largest audience. Like WOW did.
Anyways I'm done, I'm not trying to bash Bioware and I'm sensing a troll in the midst. Later yall!

Yeah, in one of his endings. And it would make sense if they save him for an Antiva product, regardless of which ending you have.
As for developers pleasing themselves, I don't think it's that they don't care what the fans want.
Their jobs is to create something the fans will in fact like. And that isn't necessarily what the fans think they'll want. Most fans can't write very well. And so if you ask them what story they think would be cool...they'll go into amateur writer mode and churn out something that isn't likely to be very popular.
When writers say "I write for myself" I think the intent there is to connect with others by understanding yourself better and hoping that your audience can identify with the results. That's likely to resonate more than taking a bunch of votes and then trying to please everyone.

I've heard it said "Write what you know.." which could explain how they can appear to be writing what they like. Bottom line, I love DA:O, but so far I'm not thrilled with what I've read about DA:A. I'll wait for launch talk to friends etc, and go from there. But as it stands right now, it's not worth $40.00 USD to me.
I've said it before, no pre-order items means your not missing anything, which means waiting and listening is perhaps the smartest choice of all. You literally have nothing to lose.

Well for me it's just another reason not to buy DA:A, unless he is not critical and can be parked like I did in DA:O. My main groups were Lelianna, Wynne, Alistair and myself. The rest gathered dust. I did their side quests just to finish the game, otherwise they could leave and I wouldn't care. In fact I'm tempted on the next go round to dump those I don't use just to see how it ends up lol

So you basically enjoy one dimensional goody two-shoe types who have barely a concept on the real world?
Lelianna-Maker this maker that, who once had the high life
Wynne-Dotting old mother who is a high member of the Circle
Alistair-Whine whine whine, who lived in a Castle and ends up....no Spoilers allowed
I find it amusing that in a later post your talk about enjoying "deep characters".
By the way, lm 38 years old, father of 3...so dont even try that "beer hall mentatily" on me. Id rather hang with a guy whose a common warrior whose known loss and betrayl and yet spends 2 years trying to save the one he loves vs the Holy Trio your pinying over.
