No thanks I'd rather not have playable space combat in ME3. I'd rather just see cinematic space combat like they have done for the series so far. I just don't think it would fit the story very well to have it player controlled.

And thats because?

Well if it ends up being just a minigame then I'd rather have cinematics, too.

No.

What would be cool is being able to command a space battle, or set one up, and then while you're on foot breaking in to whatever reaper/ship you happen to be storming you see the battle raging outside and move according to the decisions you made.

If they do it right. Maybe make it more like an RTS.

This is one of those times I would say 'render unto Cesar...', i.e. lets focus on the main game elements that make ME successful. Leave space battle control to a separate game. I am a huge fan of Wing Commander, and if they made a similar space sim game where you are a pilot or CAG on an Alliance carrier, I would buy it without hesitation. I know its not BioWare's forte, but I would trust them to turn out a quality game.

I'd rather play a dedicated space combat sim like the X series or Freespace 2 than a half-baked minigame version in Mass Effect

Didn't Jade Empire have a shooter minigame. A la 194x series? Oh god.. I am imagining the same for Mass Effect now.

Yes, yes it did.  If the battle is more akin to commanding a fleet or something, that'd be fine.  However, I really don't want to play some X-Wing style flight sim, or even man a gun turret.  Those minigames get old fast.  Commanding a fleet of ships might be fairly interesting, however.  Issuing tactical orders and then watching it play out.

Jade Empire tried this.

It was fun, but really didn't fit with the rest of the game.

It was done in the first one why not? Not really a big deal. I want some ship battles though.

You didn't.... no.. you did not just do that!!!! *watches it again* You bloody hell used the last airship battle of Skies of Arcadia.... that was one of my favourite RPGs of all time. Played it on the original Dreamcast no less!!

What will you suggest next? That we recruit different members of our crew and select who is in charge that will give different bonuses?

I notice a pattern... Xenogears... Skies of Arcadia... at this rate will you start referencing Secret of Mana.. nah too obvious. Hmmmm.....

No. Have you played Jade Empire? The sky battles are so out of place and it would be worse in ME3.

I really enjoyed the first Homeworld game. I could go for something like that but it would have to be a stand alone game methinks.

Definitely not. I would much rather have a glorious cinematic space battle then to actually play it.

Speaking of that, ever take too long to complete Star Control 2 and have the Kohr-Ah start moving around and wiping all the other races the hell out?
Now that was tension.

Nah.. I always ran out of stuff to do and had to beat them, my brother did let his game lapse though.... but I did enjoy slapping around the Heiarchy races against each other or onto the enemy, it was kind of fun to watch them poof themselves.

I hated that part. I always managed to get few alien allies until Ur-Quan + Kohr-Ah starts wiping entire god damn galaxy. I never completed the game. It's too hard for me :(

I definitely don't understand this hate for the minigames.

What can do more can do less. The pyjaks slaughter was far from perfect, but it was funny !.

Obviously, a very advanced space fights game wouldn't fit with ME, but being able to take control of one of your ship's turret (for instance) doesn't mean there won't be any cinematic, and doesn't mean the game will be less fun.

10 years before, we couldn't take control of a turret in a FPS. Now we can, and it's a lot better.

So, Turrets in ME3, I'll say yes, whether I'm on the Normandy, on a planet, in my hovercraft, or in my landing ship.

I'm sure if most of the players were prompted if the planet scanning has to be kept, they'll say no and it makes me feel sad. The planet scanning is not the best part in ME2, but I love scanning planet to take a deep breath between two big missions. Make this non mandatory so everyone's happy. Let's say yes, I agree, but simply removing it, NO WAY.

And I also wanted to say that a new turret mini game for instance doesn't mean the space battle video will be removed. It can be different elements integrated together, as the fight aboard the Normandy in the last mission.

It's what I call innovation, and I trust Bioware enough to be sure they could do something great.

Not me. Mass Effects has good things going for it. DONT TAMPER with what already works good!
