Only if we can see what Garrus finds so fascinating about calibrating the weapons.

Laziness is the black death of the 21st century.

True, but stupidity seems to be your downfall.

It is not laziness that motivates my post. It is the simple fact that a cinematic space battle, (let me emphasies this next part) IN MY OPINION, would make for a better gameplay experience.

While the space battle rages on, my Shepard could be infiltrating a Reaper, fighting off hordes of indoctrinated before they can do xxxxx on the citidel, or any number of things. All the while we are getting cinematics of the fight. Much like Mass Effect's ending but on a much larger scale.

Unless Bioware were to allow me to control the entire battle as if it were an RTS, I honestly wouldn't enjoy it because I do not enjoy flight sim/fighter games. They are just not my thing. I did enjoy the mini-game for Jade Empire, but if they did something like that at the end of ME3 then I am pretty sure these forums would explode from all the rage of making a major battle look like an old arcade game.

So congratulations on making assumptions about my motivations and proving that the basic laws of human stupidity are kept true.

"Day after day, with unceasing monotony, one is
harassed in one's activities by stupid individuals who
appear suddenly and unexpectedly in the most inconvenient
places and at the most improbable moments"

I would love to see the galactic void, some planets while flying and firing the Normandy turrets. What doesn't mean I do not agree to the fact that it should be kept as 1% maximum of the whole game, and that it could be an introduction to this

I do really think that refusing to add to ME experience won't give us nothing, while adding to the game (improve your crew, usable seat, usable bed, galactic admiration through a normandy's window) will.

I'm really sad they removed the possibility to enter the Normandy will at dock. Having to depart/land each time I want to change my armor is absolutely a pain.

That's not the kind of game Mass Effect is though...

And neither was Kotor or Kotor 2 but they still had this element.

Exactly. And did that kill Kotor? NO. Jade Empire also had something similiar. Its much more fun playing a minigame than watching a cutscene.

Except you get tired of minigames when you can't just skip them.

Minigames rarely actually add anything to the experience.

Jade Empire did it right in that it was an 'arcade game' that you could skip.

I think it would be great to command the Normandy during a space battle, using the dialogue wheel to make decisions and give orders.

I wouldn't mind it. Also long as its not boring like spore and repetitive like the planet scanning. Oh gosh that was annoying. Also It needs to stick within the RPG Element period if its going to work.!

Any space battle would inevitably be compared to Homeworld, which was a game dedicated to perfecting the art of space battles. Since Mass Effect has to focus on other elements beyond the occasional space battle, it will most likely pale in comparison to Homeworld. Then I would be sad.

Now, a spinoff Mass Effect dedicated to space battles... that could be awesome.

I say go for it. I mean, in ME2 I already had a Skies of Arcadia vibe. Let's add in some interesting space battles. It'll complete the comparison and I'm sure Bioware can pull it off. But, maybe it shouldn't be added. It might break the flow and pacing.

Yes, star control 2 -like combat would be fun!
Or perhaps Space Rangers (game) - like combat.

At least getting resources in star control 2 was fun.

I'd rather the development team focussed resources on refining the combat/story/graphics in the main game than spending time adding some gimic.

I'd rather have some moments I can affect with various decisions, like in the suicide mission, or the battle of the Citadel.

I wouldn't mind shep being in space and fighting I'd like at some point for sheps boots to malfunction and we have to free float through a large area to get out. As far as the ship fighting in space and us controlling it no I'd hate that. I wouldn't mind giving Joker commands during a space fight but I don't want to play with the ship while in space.

I've given this idea some thought over the weeks, and while I like to joke around about how I'd love to see it in ME, I don't think it's a good idea for ME3. I have a couple of reasons for this, though before I get into them let me state categorically that Space Combat Sims are still one of my favorite types of video games. I'm an original Joystick Jockey; started with Wing Commander 1 the day it came out and never looked back.

So, I don't want Space Combat in ME3 for a couple reasons:

1) It doesn't fit in with the theme of the games. From day one, Shepard's been a ground-pounder. ME's shooter mechanics have always been about staying on the ground and getting in the enemy's face. A spaceflight section, cool as it may be, would just feel out of place.

2) Bioware hasn't done it before. I love spaceflight. It was my bread and butter back in the day, and believe it or not, it's actually pretty easy to screw up. ME3 isn't the time for Bioware to attempt something it's never done before, at least not on this grand a scale.

3) Lack of peripherals. Call me prejudiced, but I play Space Combat games with a joystick exclusively. It's one of the only games I actually DO use a joystick with. The dual-analog thumbsticks of the Xbox and PS3 simply wouldn't do as good a job -- in my opinion -- as a good old-fashioned pilot stick in my grip at getting a real "feel" of space flight across.

That said, I'd love to see space-combat sims come out at a later date. I've been like a thirsty dude in the Sahara over the last decade or so when it comes to space flight, and I need my fix. ME seems as good a place as any to get it from.

id like the removal of all vehicles in ME3. i dont care to drive a mako or hammerhead at all. if ME2 was a good game and had properly implemented things, then sure. but i dont want ME3 to be a bunch of "lets try this" concepts when it should be nothing less then what ME1 was.

I'd like it if it was done well. I don't need it though and can't help but think if it is in there, there won't be much to it.

Nah i don't want space battles, i was always on edge playing through me1 and 2 the first time 'cos i was concerned i was suddenly going to get launched into some sort of space battle scenario. I was very relieved that cinematics and Joker's awesome piloting skills(flying into the collector ship's beam!) handled it all and i could sit back and enjoy the ride :) I'm really hoping they won't change it for ME3.
