The thing you people need to understand is this nothing more than big DLC. The only reason you would want to buy it on a disc is because it's very big and would take forever to download. it works the same damn way shale or warden's keep does.

So.................. what's your point?

...No, it really doesn't. Not at all.

Those are additions to the Origins campaign. This is a continuation of the campaign that starts AFTER Origins.

expansion or dao 2 ?

Once EA realizes that DA2 will not be ready in time for a Pre-March 2011 launch, it will be switched to "an expansion". Believe you me.

I do have faith in BioWare. I have little faith in publishers.

As they said Origins is a start to a bigger story so I expect bigger things from Dragon Age series ( one can hope )

We might even get another expansion before the end of this year maybe if Bioware didnt work on Dragon Age 2 or something ( which most likely they can )

And yes I dont think it is the Bioware. They are using what they have in hand at best.

The 2nd expansion has been announced and dated (feb 2011 I beleave.) Thats all we really know though...

Almost a year from now for the next xpac, really?  Yikes, I really hope that isn't true.  I have a stack of other games to play while I wait but... they're *other* games.  I want more DA, more!

And now that I've adjusted to the fact that this xpac will be romance-free, I'm looking forward to meeting my character's new friends.   Is it the 16th yet?

Virtually nothing. Ah, hyperbole at its best.

Not really Cuthlan...from we have been told by the devs and from the FAQ....yes...virtually nothing.

Except your character and all of his experience/items (excluding a handful of DLC items) and your choices of the main quest lines. That's "virtually nothing"?

If you made the Ultimate Sacrifice, your character is dead, his story is over. But for everyone else, plenty carries over. Sure, romances aren't actively continued, but that doesn't mean they are over.

Ahh....so at the ned of my origins campaign...the companions who were supposed to be travelling with me and/or helping me....got bored...car broke down? had a death in the family?

A little nod to what happened in the past is hardly what i would call continuity, passing reference at best.

Sure, there is a lack of continuity for some people. But saying virtually nothing makes it sound like your character shows up naked in a world where no one knows him.

Also, we really don't know how it will be handled yet. Wont know until we play it, either. They may have come up with a story that you will find to be a perfectly reasonable explanation.

It doesnt make it sound like that at all....thats just 'your' interpretation of what I said.

And no we don't, but there shouldnt be any need for an 'explanation' should there, if the continuity was handled correctly?

Don't get me wrong, I am a fanboy, Bioware can do no worng in my eyes, but this stinks of EA all over it, the Bioware of old would ever have done this.

Hell, we only now get Rt items as EA could see the **** storm of lost sales of said DLC due to the huge **** up....if they can do with it RtO, surely they can do it with all the other dlc too yes? Obviously isnt a technical error is it, like we were first told?

But thats all part of the problem, we were told lots of things, and none of them have come to fruition. So again, with whats actually in....its very difficult to call this an expansion. Its more of a single player large side mission.

There is also the fact that Awakenings does not need an Origins disk to play.

One thread a few weeks back asked about that very thing, and it was confirmed that you don't need an origins disk, just the Awakening disk.

Like I said in another thread like this; the only problem I have is that there are apparently women my Grey Warden can't sleep with :(

So in that respect, Awakenings is more like a sequel than an expansion.

It's just a story expansion, nothing more nothing less.

This will ultimately make it harder to revisit old companions or even PCs in future games. I think bioware plans on new heros for each part of Dragon Age storys.(that's the easy way, they have a following so the money will follow and they know it)

In that case aren't all sequels expansions then? Even if it doesn't reference it's predecesors, as long as it's in the same universe and adds to the 'lore' any instalment is an expansion. What the OP is saying is that this isn't an expansion in the way Bioware is saying it is.

Unless you're agreeing with me, then ignore this post:P

I personally hope that my character gets a few new adventures, and that DA2 has a new protagonist, lest my Falodeth become so powerful as to slay an Archdemon with merely his blinking.

Give him a new epilogue, set up a consensus or 2, as far as plot branches go (so that sequels can at least pretend to cater to most storyline possibilities... I'd be chill with a pseudo-Dragon Break type deal, that has Dalish getting a new "homeland" as one possibility, elves getting more rights as another, with the negatives also possible if necessary), and let him go the way of the Bhaalspawn... to fanfic and allusions. Maybe drop a few plot foreshadows, and start the build-up for a new character's adventure.

If I knew (personally) the person who decided Awakenings should be a stand alone game, I'd have given them a good Wynne fashion lecture on how stupid that decision was.

If they'd just done this EP like conventional EPs (which require the base game to play), we could have had nearly the full DA:O party with for one thing, and it would be infinately easier for decisions to carry over.

I thought it was the EA way (and seeing as EA makes the business plan, they're "won't mess with Bioware" policy doesn't apply here) to force its consumers to buy as many of their products as possible to play a game?

DA:O Origins is required to play the expac, so no.........its not a stand-alone, although it seems alot has gone missing from the Origins game.    It could be that..from what I am seeing the expac is jam pack full of new stuff.   So maybe I give them the benefit of the doubt, and wait to see what happens.

STILL not happy with the Ultimate Sacrifice thing....and 19 days later ...NOBODY from Bioware has addressed this issue, either to lay it to rest..or to possibly indicate..that the way we are seeing this plot hole..isn't actually whats going to happen.

I would be willing to see it either way..but thus far,   complete and utter silence.

Nice to see they have fixed the RTO dlc content porting problem.......would be nice if other things were addressed.

^ If you don't hear back from Bioware about certain things it's probably because you won't like the answer.

I remember seeing threads about the "RPG" improvements for ME2 in the ME1 forums and never seeing them discussed by Bioware.(regardless of how you felt about ME2)
