With Awakening adding a "Warden from Orlais" origin (I realize that it's an origin for Awakening only not an actual new origin), I was thinking that new origins could be DLC not just armor, characters, and quest areas.
One of my biggest lamentations about the game was how there isn't a "Human Commoner". Why? First, I have made my HN character and I REALLY DON'T want ALL of my human characters to be Couslands. Second, with City Elf being "Elf Commoner", humans are the race without a commoner origin which is a little peculiar since they are the dominant race in Ferelden. Third, Mage in itself is kind of a race of their own being that mages are connected to the Fade while everyone else is unable to (Please forgive me for being a little...blunt*: it's like how gays are rather seen as their own "minority" even though any man or woman from any race can be gay). For this reason: Human Mage isn't really a 2nd Human origin. This leaves the 3 races with dwarves having 2, elves having 2, and humans having 1.
Some of my ideas for a "Human Commoner" origin are:
Bann's Son or Daughter: Instead of being a Teyrn's son or daughter and the bluest blood in Ferelden, we could be a Bann's Son or Daughter answering the King's call-to-arms. On our way to Ostagar, My father's men and I are ambushed by Darkspawn. Duncan comes to our aid and is impressed with how I handled the Darkspawn. He offers me a place in the Grey Wardens.
Chasind: With the character I want to make being my NWN version of Minsc, I thought that maybe we could have a Chasind origin. Duncan comes across our tribe. The leader of my tribe welcomes him saying how Grey Wardens have been made up of barbarians as well as (whatever Chasind call the civilized world). Soon darkspawn attack our tribe and I stand against the Darkspawn to help my people flee. Duncan is impressed with me and offers me a place in the Grey Wardens. Frankly, I'd like to have Morrigan tease me about my intelligence like she teases Alistair.
Denerim Knight: Basically this is just a "Ser Jory" kind of origin. Duncan holds a tournament in Denerim where I win my way into being recruited by the Grey Wardens.
Mercenary: Duncan comes to Denerim to hire my Mercenary Company to aid in the coming battle at Ostagar. On the trip to Ostagar, darkspawn ambush us and kill my comrades. Duncan is impressed with how I was able to survive and offers me a place in the Grey Wardens.

No, that was cut at the concept stage.AlanC9 wrote...
I think at one point there was going to be a "Mysterious Stranger" start. But that was cut a long time ago. I don't know if there was ever any actual gameplay associated with it.
As for adding Origins via DLC, that's not going to happen -- for the reasons already stated. Sorry, but there are six Origins already in the game. That will have to do.
