We should've had a choice to not have any teammates on our team

For ME2 as well as ME1. Everyone talks as if Shepard destroyed
Sovereign, the geth, Saren, etc. himself but it was with a bunch of
aliens too. If we could play Shepard alone it would make a bit more
sense. Also Shepard was a Spectre and they usually work alone

It'd be cool as an option. Why not?

I agree, being lone wolf shepard or shepard with only one or two allies would be cool.

Right idea about credit given. Wrong approach of isolating Shepard in the game. Shepard is the Commander and therefore the head honcho when it comes to decisions made and the best way to approach a problem. If it were up to Grunt, probably attacking the problem would be better, Miranda being loyal, Tali being observational and technical on situations...however they don't make the final call...it comes down to Shepard thus the credit is earned...otherwise if they were all killed it would be on Shepard just as much if they all make something of the mission he is given the credit, although do not assume the characters aren't heroes from where they hail...(SPOILERS): Just look at where Wrex got, if you kept him alive on Virmire and his status back home.

As for gameplay it is understandable and does increase the difficulty quite a bit but then many cut-scenes and squad enhancements would be a bit out the window.

It would have been fun, even as an option on replay. And interesting (or annoying!) to hit a brick wall if you lack decryption or electronics, like my Soldier. I often have my duo stand hold position a few doors behind me while I clear a map "on my own", it's sort of the same thing although I am getting the benefit of the passive skills. But on replay, playing is pretty much like watching a thresher in a marshmallow factory. Not much resistance, and a little sticky!
