I have little doubt that this has been discussed, but the forum search is worthless.

If you watch the original teaser trailer, it's clear that the geth shown over Shepard's body (or, rather, the bits of armor you're intended to assume is the body) is Legion, and his chest is covered by N7 armor.

The dialog in the game makes it clear that his hole is supposed to be covered with Shepard's armor, yet he's just wearing some shoulder gear.

Why was this change made?  Was it too difficult to have an animation revealing the hole during conversation?

Did the Legion model designer just have too much pride in that hole, and demanded it be visible full time?

I think it provides a pretty big clash between the conversation and visuals in the game.

That hole doesn't impair his functions and provides less surface area in which to take damage. Seems like a sound tactical move to leave it be.

Quote from actual site.

"Originally added to the concept just for fun, Shepard's N7 armor became an integral part of Legion's appearance and back story. A large hole is visible in Legion's torso - a wound sustained from gunfire while it was on Eden Prime searching for information related to Shepard. "

Hole in the armor, teaser trailer...

I think that the real Shepard is Legion or Legion saved the real Shepard

Shepard of mass effect 2 is only a clone!

I think its kind of dumb. A hole that size would certainly impair his regular functioning

Not necessarily. A geth mobile platform's torso area might not house many critical components, especially since it constitutes the largest 'target' area from a combat standpoint. Clearly the software geth programs are stored in the head region of the mobile platform, since that appears to be the most heavily armored portion of a geth mobile platform, and may also be a legacy of the quarian's original geth design.

True siansonea II. It is cooler to have your synthetic squadmate be damaged than to be brand new. It adds to the believability.

And if the hole would impair his functions, just slapping a N7 Plate over the hole won't make him more functional..........  Legion probably doesn't have the rescources to repair his Platform fully, a Geth will have a hard time getting Spare parts, they are not treated frendly by organics.

Legion had his chest plateing blown off in a conflict while he was fighting Cerberus to get Shepard's body back. Cerberus got his body and i'm assumeing most of the armor except for that section.
Yes it's a little wierd in the prevideo's Legion was in full N7 armor but now is in the upper shoulder part.
Also remember when you ask him that question and he retorts
Legion: "............no data availible."
I remeber watching some of the re videos for this game and I remember one of the developers says that "Legion is infatuated with Commander Shepard but...the player doesn't know why but in time will find out if he's either a friend or a foe."
Also I remember Legion has a conversation to the effect of
Legion: "You killed of the old machines"
Shepard: "You make it like I killed one of their gods."
Legion: "Correct, because of that, that is probably why they have taken notice to you."
I think Legion sees Shepard as like a God Killer so he feels that wearing a piece of Shepards armor might make him look like a symbol among his own kind as "the person who aided the god killer in his need to kill gods" or somthing that crazy in Geth Lore or somthing.

Id enjoy the big hole in his chest if it didn't look so huge and didnt obscure the N7 symbol. Its like scar, its really cool in the right place but in others not so much.
