In the end it won't matter how many allies are on your side when the Reapers come. Here is why:

The more allies and fleets you have, the longer the Reapers can be distracted while Shepard works to collapse their wormhole/unleash a virus/blow up a sun/use Charm on Harbinger.

HARBINGER: We are here to facilitate your destruction. Your feeble attempts at resistance are futile.

SHEPARD: Are you really sure you want to do this?

HARBINGER: Yeah... you're right. Let's go, guys.

*Reapers all leave*

I suddenly wonder if we'll even see all the Reapers in ME3... I mean... without someone to activate the Citadel relay, how would they even get there within Shepard's natural lifetime?

It might not take too long; even without mass relays, mass effect technology still allows for FTL travel. And if they've been hauling ass since Soveriegn bought it in ME1, they could make it pretty fast...but apparently showing up all at once, right at the Ciatdel was preferable to doing it the hard way.

That depends on how much faster than light standard FTL is. I mean... the galaxy is BIG. Really big. Like, "Wow, that's bigger than my puny brain can comprehend!' big. Plus, we have no idea how far into dark space they were. Unless they were all hovering at the edge of the galaxy like large robotic vultures, or someting.

(I support Vulture Reaper for end boss of ME3)

Yes, I understand that they'd have to be going many, many times the speed of light, but I'm pretty confident  that in ME3 we'll face them, and I can't see the story being pushed forward more than a few years, so I assume they can travel that fast. Either that or BW will introduce some convenient plot device to usher them along. Personally I'd prefer a simple explanation of "the Reapers' drive technology is just that good."

You know he could do it. Shepard's Charm and Intimidate are more powerful than Reaper Indoctrination.

Hasn't Bioware telegraphed ME3's MacGuffin already?
What with the ancient mass accelerator weapon that left a giant crater on a world and killed the 37 million year old derelict reaper. Super weapon + dark energy seems to be how we defeat them.

When the end cinematic pans to the reaper fleet, you're able to see a good 2/3's of the galaxy from just above the eliptical.  They're a stupid ways off.  As in "We'll have evolved to pure enery by the time they get here" kind of distance, even with FTL.

HARBINGER: Shepard convinced me we should all leave these organic creatures alone and return to dark space.
*There are murmurs amongst the Reapers. One speaks up*
VESTIGE: Really? What convinced you?
HARBINGER: Uh...
*cuts to shot of Shepard smoking a cigarette in a very large bed. Shepard sighs and blows out a satisfactory plume of smoke, leaning back into the large pillow with a smile and look of contentment*
SHEPARD: Yep. Still got it.

Well, that's ok. I'm now convinced that Vulture Reaper will make it here in no time, due to his great wingspan. It helps in FLT flight, you know.

Nope, TIM stated the weapon was defunct. The most likely Chekov's Guns are the Dholen star premature death, and the constant mentioning of Dark Energy.

I predict that Dholen is a Reaper wormhole in the making, and they will defeated by Shepard closing the wormhole while they're still in transit. Harbinger will probably get through and act as the final boss, though, at which point this exchange would occur:

Shepard: I've had enough of your contumelious prevarications!

Harbinger: Oh crap! *dies*

I foresee a grueling battle of attrition destroying most primary alien bases and home worlds ending in a grueling battle on Earth where just as victory is in the Reaper's sights, Udina airlifts his bunker and peaces out somewhere. Realizing all galactic resources are depleted and they have lost all flight and anti air abilities in the battle the Reapers spend the next 50,000 years QQing.

That is 100x scarier than my vulture reaper ever could be. Your name is appropriate. I'm going to have nightmares.

I hope we actually get to see a war on the Reapers. Legions of marines and whole divisions of armor clashing with reaper drones and mechs on the ground, as titanic fleets and hordes of fighters slug it out in orbit.

I want some epic battle in ME3. One that makes people talk about it years after ME3 hits the shelves. I want a space opera battle of Helms Deep mixed with the stand at Thermopylae and crossed with Horus' Seige of Terra and both Death Star battles at the same time.

All set to a rocking soundtrack composed by Judas Priest and Manowar.

I agree with most of what you say.  I've never listened to judas priest or Manowar, so I can't say whether or not I agree on that.  I was thinking more Battle of Minis Tirith, with the unexpected help (Geth and rachni).

  • Shepard could take on the entire reaper fleet solo.

I think half the fun of the reaper invasion will be seeing how BW gets them to our galaxies super duper quick (because you know they will).

Random thought: There were 12 Prothean scientists (as said by vigil) that worked on the Conduit project. Protheans = Collectors. Collectors = Harbingers toys of bidding. Harbinger = reaper (i think?)

Just thinking outloud...

And I didn't even describe the previous scene where Shepard is in his/her quarters preparing for the big battle towards the end of ME3. When the focus goes slightly fuzzy, and soft gentle music with a hint of a heartbeat starts playing as the door to Shepard's quarters open and there beyond them is Harbinger. :innocent:

The Reapers have thousands of huge ships just as big as Sovereign.

Human Admiral: Just makes them easier to hit! All ships, fire at will!

It does make it kind of hard to miss.  You could totally blow off that Sgt. at the Citadel and "shoot from the hip" and still hit a Reaper.

One of the ways the Reapers took out past civilizations is to isolate them by shutting down the relays IIRC.  Maybe there's a way to isolate them and pick them off.  Add to that the tech gained from Sovereign regarding the Thanix (sp?) cannon, and the shielding and armor advancements provided by Jacob and Tali passes on to all the fleets.

Also keep in mind it sounds as if the only ships lost (though high in number)  at the Citadel battle were cruisers.  I'm curious as to what a fleet of human, turian, asari, salarian, geth, quarian, rachni, etc. dreadnoughts can do to a Reaper.  Add to that all the human carriers with fighters armed shield penetrating disrupter torpedoes and all the cruisers and frigates........ it might just happen.  It'll be the galactic version of the Battle off Samar during WWII but it might just be winable.

I still think that my idea of them lining the Citadel with mines and then Shep flipping on the Relay wouldn't be a bad idea. the Reapers would pour through and hit the mines. A combo of EMP and Nuclear would be a good idea too.

most likely happen like this:

It's gonna be a hive-mind type thing only with machines instead of bug-eyed aliens. They will find a way to kill the "queen" and all of the workers will stop functioning. classic sci-fi setup.
