So what's better for Shep? Squad or Heavy ammo? For allies? If it depends on the type (Cryo vs incindiary, etc) and class, then please specify.

Here are my general rules:

Shep Incindiary: Heavy
Shep Cyro: Squad
Shep Warp: Heavy

Ally Ammo: Squad (any of them)

I'm curious as to what other people think, though.

Sorry if this is a dupe, I'm rather new here ^^;

Squadmates will constantly override squad ammo with their own ammo powers, even if you are fighting geth and the only ammo power they have is shredder ammo.

I agree with you on those. Especially cryo. The only way to use cryo ammo is to use squad cryo.

Can't you turn off ALL skills being used? I'm pretty sure that's the case, because they've never overwritten mine.

Nope they still use ammo powers, there is a thread asking for it to be patched.

Huh, that's weird - I've never had them use ANY skills at all o_O

Even if you allow squad mates to use powers, I feel ammo powers should be exempt as the AI isn't sophisticated enough to make the best choice.

It depends on what you use for your bonus talent at least when I use my Sentinel.

If you have no ammo talent your better off bringing one teammate who has an ammo talent and giving him squad. Preferably Incinerary ammo for the panic option. You also gear up and pick skills more defensively.

If you do get an ammo power, grab as much power % stuff (gear and powers) as you can. Choose the heavy version. You might want to bring a squad mates with different ammo powers.

Disruptor ammo should always be squad imo, since its better than cryo ammo vs unshielded synthetics and vs unshielded organics with weapons its also really good.

You need to think carefully each time you max an ammo type. It isn't very cut and dry because it HIGHLY depends.

Only infiltrator and Soldier get Disruptor ammo so if you are any other class making Zaeed get Squad ammo is much more useful then heavy. If you are playing a soldier or Inf you can get it yourself, in that case I would get squad myself and not even max it on zaeed probably give him a fat Concussive Blast.

Incendiary ammo is arguable the most useful ammo type so you always want to make sure you have it. If your class doesn't have this, then you want teammates to grant it to you. As a matter of fact when I was vanguard I had Jacob get squad incin, and my shepard got inferno ammo just so everyone could have incendiary, but I had super incendiary.

As for armor piercing and shredder ammo, I actually always choose heavy for my squadmates so they can be real tactical tools when I fight organic/armored targets.

What I am saying is, always think it through, and always make sure you have access to SOME ammo power. It's not a big issue with Vanguard, Soldier, Inf, but with Adept, Engineer and Sent it is.

I actually agree with you for the most part. Squaddies should pretty much always take squad powers (especially if you don't have an ammo power yourself). Since both Grunt and Jacob have Incendiary, I get squad Incendiary on Jacob and spend 0 points on it with Grunt. I like being able to have a diverse group of squad members that are good for different occasions.

The only class I take a Heavy power for (Heavy Warp Ammo) is my Infiltrator, because it adds to the already insane damage from the Widow. I believe Tungsten would be a good choice as well.

There are people who advocate going Squad Cryo ammo, and then Heavy Inferno ammo as a vanguard so you can give your mates cryo and use inferno yourself.

Squad Cryo is good for just about any occasion, which is why I prefer to not take it. :P

I've seen that in a couple of videos and it seems to work really well. Basically gives you free hands, since you can always order your teammates to shoot anyone flanking you.
