Like if I wanted Oghren to be my shield/sword wielding tank, instead of the two-hander berserking warrior that he originally was when Origins ended?

Good, I think Oghren would make a better tank than dps.blademaster7 wrote...
Yes respec is available for your companions too.
To bad you couldn't do this in Origins.........<_<

Do you have a link to a dev or something confirming this? I've tried searching the forum for a confirmed answer to this but so far this is the only thread i've found pertaining to companions being able to use the respec feature.

It was confirmed on the live demo. Ferret Baudoin said about using them to "reset your character and companions". There was a thread detailing all of the important points but its fell back a few pages by now.
Ok thanks very much

Heck you can buy a tome, respec your party NPC, use them in battle, realize a different respec would have been better, and do it again (as long as you have the gold to buy the tome).

I'm going to carry a full loadout of weapons on my warrior and a stack of respecs so I can change specs every fight!

Edit #2: Or you know... you can buy just 1 tome and keep reloading until you find the build that suits you.

I realize that Awakening stuff is for Awakening, but those tomes need to be purchasable in the main game as well!
You can download the respec mod for the PC and do it for free.

Just to add the note of veracity to it, yes you can use respec tomes on the PC AND the party NPCs if you wish.

How soon can you purchase the tomes?

I'll stick with No-Follower-Auto-Level, thanks.

I'll probably turn it off for at least my first run-through of Awakenings (because I like to see what the devs intended for the characters) but after that, NFAL for me too. Honestly, even with that, I've only once turned someone into something completely outside of what they're supposed to be (I made Alistair dual-wield the last time I beat the game, since I was playing a S&B warrior) but I like to change specializations (even if it does mess up specializations if you pick up a character after they're already level 14...still, it means Sten gets 2 spec points, and Shale gets a specialization.)Sylvius the Mad wrote...

I do that a lot. I've made Sten an archer, and all of the warriors have been all of the three melee disciplines.Honestly, even with that, I've only once turned someone into something completely outside of what they're supposed to be (I made Alistair dual-wield the last time I beat the game, since I was playing a S&B warrior)
The character who benefits most from NFAL is Wynne. If she goes full-healer she's very effective at keeping the party alive.
I actually haven't enabled the specialisation change. So far I'm willing to be stuck with whatever the default specs are (so Morrigan's always a Shapeshifter, even though she never buys that first shapeshifting talent).but I like to change specializations (even if it does mess up specializations if you pick up a character after they're already level 14...still, it means Sten gets 2 spec points, and Shale gets a specialization.)

I whole-heartedly agree, these need to be made avaible in the Origins core game as well.Kimarous wrote...

Bioware, please, hear my cry... Console-Based Character Respecs.... put it in a patch or something. Youve had it for every RPG game you've made but Dragons Age, a game that has been in development for a long time, and for some reason did not include such in the core gameplay. Your better than this.
