Honestly, I can't tell what a Krogan, Hanar, Elcor, Volus, or Turian female would look like. The Krogan females are very deliberately not shown (there is an example of a dead one under a sheet; she looks smaller than the males and doesn't seem to have the hump, but that's all I could tell). Turians are supposedly descended from birds as I understand it, so even if they do give birth to live young I find it hard to imagine that females would look much different from males (I can't tell male or female birds apart, and if they don't feed their children breast milk they wouldn't need mammary glands). Salarian females are kept on Salarian worlds, so no problem there. Elcor and Volus females, I have no idea what they would look like, or if we would be able to tell them apart from males. Drell, we only see two and both are male, so that's not a big omission.
Incidentally, the emissary of the female clan is a juvenile male Krogan.
The absence of children didn't seem all that noticeable to me except in the colonies like Horizon. Couldn't figure out where they all were. Maybe new colonies are no kids allowed?

Well said. However would should at least see one salarian female. Even though they are kept on the homeworld, we should at least see one. Drell are very rare yet we see two of them.

Bioshock was more violent than Mass Effect, but it had kids in it.

I'm surprised they fit as much as they did into Mass Effect 2. I guess more character models would have been too much

Eh I really don't mind that there isn't kids, I would rather have them put in some kind of assassins creed system where npcs walk around like they have somewhere to go, that would give a better sense of realism than some random kid.

Why do people want kids in the game so badly? It's kinda creepy.

It makes the game realistic and attention to detail is what makes things great

....still creepy. Running around the Citadel going "where dem kids at?!?" is....weird. There's plenty of other things in this game that make it realistic and great.

Its not rocket science. It costs ressources to have kids and all genders in a game. We're not looking at reflections of reality, we're looking at video games. There is no need for children to be present in what limited portions of Mass Effect we visit, and unless the story requires it, there is no sense in putting costly ressources to model, voice, animate, and texture female genders or children.

Dev's don't pull these things out of their collective butts in a minute. It takes time and ressources, and both of these cost money. Do you want to start paying 80$-100$ for video games because developpers are bursting their budgets working on senseless stuff for they sake your goram picky sense of immersion?

Suspending your sense of disbelief would serve you well when playing a VIDEO GAME.

I agree, we don't need extra large NEET population like Japan that chasing around 3-D women or man all the time.:P

There are female Krogans in ME2...they're just laying dead on operating tables... You can still see what they look like, though.

Aren't they covered by a sheet so you can't see what they look like?

The reason you dont see children: They are in school, SPACE SCHOOL

The reason you dont see female Hannar, Elcor or Vorchaa: You do, vorcha are just that ugly and Elcor are to subtle to notice any difference, pheromones most likely. Hanaar are all jelly fish and speak through your mind, maybe shepard just interprets them to sound the same havnt noticed any that sound distinct from each other.

Female Krogan, and Batarian: Krogan women are in breeding camps for theyre safety from male krogan fighting over them. Batarians.... maybe they're the ones doing productive stuff instead of being space terrorists.

As for the Volus, they're respiratory suits make them all look the same and maybe even sound the same.

Turians though.... i can't really say look the same like i did for everything else um..... they're all on Conrad Verners crew in the SR3 Shepormandy

The REAL hurdle, I think is that it takes quite a bit of design skills to make women that seem
Turian or Salarian that are not utterly unattractive. Design that is not essential to the story, and can be written around if the development cycle is pressed for time, which is what Bioware has chosen to do.  It's not a decision I approve of, but I'm not going to excuse it with flimsy money arguments, but rather, accept it for what it is: a design choice, made under a time table.

Krogan would be even a harder stretch, and I'd think they'd got the 'hot but ugly' style ala Klingon women of star trek. It'd be interesting if Krogan females had a much different body shape than their males, not that it should be hourglass, but significantly different could be most interesting.

Eh? Why? There's no reason that we should be attracted to any other species at all. It's all ways bugged me in low budget sci-fi/horror movies is the alien's interest in human females- with soft, pale skin; ears and noses that stick out from the head; large eyes that show a lot of cornea; promintent breasts and strange curves- they should feel nothing towards them, if not revoltion.

The reverse is also true- what attacts an alien species to members of its oposite sex, should either a, have no effect on us, or b, actually repel us. It's an ingrained response to keep our genetic lines pure.

That's certainly true on Earth, anyway. While it is possible that hominid alien species incidentally have the same sexual and social cues that may result in us being attracted to them, there is nothing to say it has to be the case.

Aliens can be hot. Look at Talis rockin body. And how can any alien deny their lust for Miranda! And what about those dirty asari dancers in the skintight outfits. HOT!!!

There's at least one that's not.  You can actually see what a female Krogan looks like.  Very interesting.

I think I may know why children were omitted, but I can't say it's a worthwhile addition.

There was actually a part of me that wish there was some sort of storyline in ME3 where Shep takes in a 14-15 year old on a war ravaged planet and turns him into a Wesley Crusher type or maybe even a great soldier.

yeah yeah I know.

but it's a game.

Kids should be in games for the same reason as houses or trees. It just adds to the immersion. Not saying kids are objects, but in my opinion they are important. They can even be integrated into the story (see DA:O). Plus they prove that the devs have balls.

Just to put my two cents in, hanar are the equivalent of jellyfish. Doesn't that exempt them from gender as surely as it does the asari?

Running over children in Simpsons Hit and Run is certainly a giggle. I suggest others to play it.

As for the no children no females. Just not enough time or resources or plain lazy or maybe all 3.

Hanar aren't jellyfish. They may look like them but they aren't. Until the provide an explanation as to why we haven't seen any females, we cannot dismiss the possibility of female hanar
