So...as some of you may be aware, the Facebook site has spawned a massive, interconnected role playing community centering around Mass Effect characters and original characters that interact within that universe.  We're all players and fans of Mass Effect who decided to take BW's awesome universe to the next level.  The following RP events are what happens when you set the players loose on Facebook. Enjoy! :D

-----=====----

Please keep in mind not every side conversation involving these RP sessions were included...because honestly, these things are spread across multiple walls, Vivox chat sessions, and private PM's and IM's.  But what is posted here is the meat of these RP's, and hopefully we get most of it. :D

Keep checking back for future additions! We have a robust, active RP community going on over there so new material is almost constantly being churned out.

Key:
OC: Original Characters
RC: Referenced Character (Characters/Figures referenced/mentioned in passing, but with no notable expansion or detail)

I don't get it. These logs are like... a chat session?

The first one is a chat session, yeah, but the second one was logged through status updates and wall posts via the site.

Yeah, it is. Wooow, this is great. More fallout commences. ROFL. XD

Turian Councilor: I have just reviewed the case Pallin presented to me last night. I think if my mandibles were not connected to my face in permanent fashion I would have lost them. To say this is a nightmare is to do nightmares a disservice. It is more akin to a political excrement tsunami, with myself on shore watching the tide retract. I will be contacting those involved about this...

Is "epic" really the right word?

You just create a profile to RP with (and tailor it to that character), friend ME RP characters, and then get active posting on participating characters' walls, sign up for any official/unofficial events that come up, etc.  The key is to keep in character. ^^ Some people create ME characters (don't know how many Vakarians, Shepards, etc., we have. XD), from well-known canon characters to lesser known characters or those only passively referred to.  Others create OC's that exist in the ME universe.  I RP an exaggerated "self" and a few other OC's.

Oh, and use a junk email account when you create one (or two, or three ;p).

We have several Garrus Vakarians, John/Jane Shepards, Executor Venari Pallin, Executor Chellick, Blasto Hanar Spectre, Dill Elcor Spectre, Darkstar Turian, Barrus Vakarian, Harbinger, a couple of Sarens, Sovereign, some Kaidans, Thane, Kolyat, recon scout Nephira, Aria, Kelly, Nihlus, some RP Areas (Citadel and Omega), groups like C-Sec and Fornax Magazin, and a slew of other characters and groups that I can't recall off the top of my head right now. ;)

Bah, don't be a killjoy humbug. D;

The "Epic RP" is more than just a handful of events...it's the entire RP experience going on at Facebook.  What I post here are a few snapshots of the ongoing RP events that occur all the time over there.  I think the RP community we are growing is "epic" in many ways. ;)

I was wondering if there was a FAQ, a list of who plays which canon and created characters, if there's an application process for canon characters (not interested in any myself at this time), who the storytellers are - I mean, I don't want to introduce Big Conspiracy or Natural Space Disaster stuff in a backstory without clearing that first, etc. etc..

The facebook RP sounds like tons of fun from what I hear from people in the Garrus chat on vivox. I totally wish I wasn't so busy with papers and other work right now so I could follow it better or even play.

No, no FAQ although I could try and whip one up. ^^ I'll try and do that after tomorrow's event...don't have a lot of time now since we're making preparations.

No list of who plays what.  It usually works best when the player's true identity is kept hidden, although some of us know who the other(s) is/are.  Some don't mind their identities being revealed, others keep completely incharacter and never reveal it.

No application process for canon characters, no requirements, etc.  Granted, if you RP the canon character well, you'll get more RP activity with that character...people appreciate and gravitate towards those who do a better job of keeping in-character.  Story-tellers are anyone with an idea or story to tell.

Right now we have a massive story-arch that current characters are rolling with.  Take the above examples in the OP.  These events weren't originally planned to happen the way they did, or even to branch out in the ways they have.

In general, as long as you don't go around god-moding, powerplaying, etc. then it's fine. Try doing that and people will either just ignore you or write you off anyway. ;) If you want to do something big, try to involve as many people behind the scenes before hand, too...makes it more enjoyable and people enjoy being part of such events. :D

The RP is always on-going.  Sometimes there are larger public events involving anyone who cares to join in, other times it's more personal and private.  The RP is the community itself, since we're all RP'ing in character.  We interact with eachother in character, be it on each other's walls, in FB IM's, in FB PM's, in FB Vivox chatrooms...the RP continues on in every post someone makes in-character.

Events and storylines crop up anytime someone with an idea or story starts it.  Each new canon or OC character brings their own history with them and helps enrichen the experience, helps open up possible story branches and offshoots.  When you participate in an event, what happens during that event can have consequences that lead to unintended storylines.  For example, what is shown in the RP events listed in the OP.  When the original players crafted that event with Chellick, they didn't expect it to end up where it has.  And who knows where it will continue going. :D

Re: FAQ - ah, I'm not meaning to make the hobby into a job for anyone. I can probably figure out what I need to - I'm SMRT! or at least I like to think I have moar brain cells than an amoeba. Unless the RP's population asplodes there's probably no need.

Re: No list of who plays whom - I'm rarely comfortable with this because if I pick up a canon character I need to make sure the other people who have previously played with this character are cool with me being the 'puppeteer'. (I also co-founded and used to run a still-thriving RPG chat site where we saw a lot of conflict of interest going on - though each RP community was fairly autonomous and self-regulated - that sometimes got so bad it required site mods to step in and tell people to Knock It the Hell Off. The bigger concern on my end is the first thing I mentioned, though - I like to make sure everyone's comfort levels are steady.  I'm also a fan of active and open character lists for that reason, and because it helps avoid ten players saying "No, I'm the real Wolverine, see, I have the exact James Howlett screen name!" or whatnot. (Yeah, true story.)

Nah, the FAQ wouldn't be a huge issue, and I know a number of people have had questions regarding it. ^^ I don't mind and I could probably find the time for a small FAQ section in the OP. :)

Our "in-RP" explanation (at least the one I've personally accepted) is that Facebook has torn a rift in various universes and dimensions, so all the multiple Garrus Vakarians, for example, are all "real" but are originally from their own dimensions/realities.  There aren't any issues I've seen or heard where someone complains about there being another "x-character." ;)

Updated the OP with today's RP event, "Rescue Operation." Karsh's "SRS BZNS" note was also updated with some of the fallout of that event.
