This game is an expansion. You already had your chance at romance in the original game.

Yeh true, it is an expansion, that's even more of a reason to keep the same NPC's and keep the same features. If it was for example DA2, I could understand. But this is an expansion which means, to my understanding, that it should include more content, and not the removal of NPC's and of what I think a crucial feature from the original. Just my 2 cents :wizard:

Indeed, both belong in a video game, if implemented the right way, just like BioWare did. It has just become a general stereotype that "romance" is taboo in videogames, I love it though, taking in consideration that I'm not that much of a romantic soul in real life. It just gives a game more depth imho. I understand not everyone likes it as much, but just press escape when a movie pops up:P

Well romance is nice would have been better if they made the scene sequence more realistic seeing that the get it on in there underware. STUPID. they should have just blured it or did the sequences the didnt show any thing just the curves. but enough perv talk. I did like the rmances, now it feels like the relationships built in DAO were a waste going into the DAA expansion. But if they do make a sequel DA2 i hope it will give us the option to revisit the flames of romance.

My character had it fling goin with both Lelianna and Morrigan at the end before Morrigan belled with my Arch demon possessed bastard child. "Damn her".Id love to see that play out...

Ditto but then if we all Q,Q'd in the same thread we'd all need to Purchase Rafts in order to survive

2BH this is a story, not all stories have Romance in every single chapter this is a War story not a Romantic Novel.

The Darkspawn in Origins were really layed back (IMO), im Hoping in Awakening they will be a bit more Relentless. I wouldn't want to be caught with my Chainmail down when Darkspawn storm my camp, so im happy for the lack of Romance to me its more realistic in terms of story

ok most of you people need to read the thread and not just start in wth your insults and poitnless comments just because you read the thread title.

Im not saying romance is necessary, what im saying is look at mass effect the first is one of the best games ever, whilst the second is a huge dissapointment becuase it lacks many of ME1's features.

and today is the first time ive really paid any attention to awakening as i was waiting for the release date to get closer before i start thinking about it and the first bit of news i find is that they are cutting one of the interesting aspects of the game. so what im saying is that that could also mean that they've taken out more than just the romance and could possibly have made this game like mass effect 2- a dissapointing addition to a promising series

no im not high, mass effect 2 was rubbish. people that prefer it to ME1 arent RPG fans- simple as that.
and seeing as i am an RPG fan there pretty much the only games i like im hoping that dragon age awakening doesnt dissapoint

That's an opinion...and only yours.  I have been an RPG fan for 20 years and ME1 and 2 are as close to RPG as you can get.  Role Playing Game doesn't necessarily have a defined interface.  Just because you think bloated inventory makes an RPG, doesn't mean it is so.

Now you are putting on your developer hat?  Interesting.  I thought the creative decisions and storyline was the realm of the actual writers and developers?    Seriously, everyone has an expectation, but why not wait until the damn thing is released before judging.  It's like writing a book review based on the wording on the back of the book sleeve...

At first, I was a little disappointed at no romance in DA:A, but then I thought about it, an realized I didn't want the option if we weren't going to have the same characters, anyway. Basically, if I can't continue my DA:O romance, I'm fine with no option for a new one.

And I'm sorry, but I have to totally disagree with the statement that if one liked ME2, one is not an RPG fan. I ONLY play RPGs, and I was VERY nervous about ME2 when we started hearing about the new combat system, etc. But once I played, I loved it! So much better than ME1, and I felt like the character interaction was expanded a bit, too. I don't get all these complaints that the RPG elements were streamlined out. ME1 was NOT a traditional RPG ala Dragon Age. There wasn't nearly as much in the way of interaction and cut scenes, but it's just a different style of game. I have found I like them both a lot (though Dragon Age best, because it does offer a lot more roleplay).

I will say, I thought it was going to be really hard playing ME2 with my ME character, and avoiding the new romance options to stay true to my ME1 romance. It's actually been pretty easy, and I've still enjoyed the heck out of the game. So, armed with that experience, I know I'm going to enjoy DA:A even without romance. :D Of course, I'm hoping for some great NPC interaction, as that was the other part of DA I loved. Listening to their convos as we run around doing things was priceless.

The romance fiends can go play the Sims or something. If you have an itch to scratch, drop by the Pearl and get hooked up.

The Difference is ME1 and ME2 Were different games ME2 was an Expansion of the story but in no other sence.

it enhanced the games combat a great deal and dropped the need for an inventory full of rubbish in replace for a more fluent system. and i found it more enjoyable than ME1, Both games were good, however i will agree in the capacity that the selection of weapons and armor were a dissapointment.

the reason you met such a negative reception however is because your never stated it was your opinion you stated it as fact that ME2 was crap.

As for DA:O and DA:A, Awakening is being released as an Expansion not a new game in the series, there are few changes in terms of game mechanics the graphics are unchanged except for a change to resolution on textures, Romance is dropped because this chapter of the Games story is more Focused on conflict.

RPGS come in many forms if they all followed the same Game mechanics the genre would become boring and Linear. if all developers used the same systems

In future voice your appinion instead of attempting to brainwash a forum

I always hated romantic subplots in movies..hate romantic comedies to death. Romance always detract from the movie..and tradionally they were put into movies (back in the silent movie era) to fill in gaps in the plot.

In games like these, it served a purpose, something else to do, deeper interaction, but i think they want Awakenings to be a bit faster paced in a lot of ways. You are Commander of the Grey Wardens now, not just one of the last ones in Fereldan. You have responsibilities, huge ones, and that doesn't leave much time to...well there are only two chicks in this one..one is humand and one is a dwarf..so who are you gonna wanna romance?

They prolly didn't have time in developement (as has been stated and i'm sure it's true considering how quick this was announced) and Romances don't effect the plot, they are just a reward to talking to your party members.

Now if all you wanna do is see your female companions in t here universal undies, then just take their armor off:) Not that I did that..well once..but not much:)

Also, to the ME2 vs ME1 and which is a true role playing..you are aware that ME1 and 2 ar e refered to, by Bioware i think, as fps/rpg hybrids? Which means they were never meant to be pure RPGs.

Also, only have one suit of armor was done because they took away that cluttered inventory system. Hence, nothing to carry all that armor in, hence one suit of armor that you can customize in many ways..

The suicide mission is a rush, and few other games have giving me a rush because peoples lives where on the line, they could die and no reload could change that. Plus Miranda Lawson..enough said.

I agree with suliabryon. The notion that liking ME2 means you aren't an RPG fan is one of the funniest arguments I've heard over at the ME2 boards. Mainly because no one can come up with how that's supposed to work if you only play RPGs. I guess you are some kind of closet shooter lover having never played one.

I mainly play RPGs because they are my favorite kinds of games. I dabble in fighting, strategy and puzzle games when I'm not playing them. I hate FPS/TPS/Any kind of PS game. I had a blast with ME2. Stop bringing up the argument. It makes zero sense.

see- what some of you people are regarding as "millions of useless items" RPG fans including myself call a huge variety of customisation options.rather than ME2 which one of its many downfalls is the lack of customisation, there are what about 10 different pieces of armour in total? which is a pathetic amount. and around 8 weapons. again pathetic amount especially when u consider the game is more shooter than anything else
