i'm so happy there are no love interests in Awakening. i find all love interests, from all 7 big Bioware games, to be the worst written part of all games. this is not to be mean to devs, hundreds of writers have worked across those 7 big games, and romance in a video game is excrutiatingly awkward, and imo, retarded.

you're allowed to enjoy it, but when it comes to how BW is going to spend its time, effort and resources on game content, i'm thoroughly ecstatic they didn't waste it on a 20 second pg-13 sex cinematic.

I'm an RPG fan I prefer quality over quanitity.  The fact that the majority of the stuff in ME 1 and DA are just palette swaps with only differing stats doesn't make me sympathetic to that argument.  The Elder Scroll games do that crap better and they have a feel to them like ME 2 has.

Customisation? What?

By the end of ME1 damn near everyone is wearing Colossus X armour and using spectre weaponry with two frictionless materials in them. It doesn't matter if theres millions of items if nobody uses them.

Atleast at the end of ME2 most Shepards are wearing different gear.

You know. I'm sure those beautiful vixens are thinking the same thing. But for different reasons.

Dude. Seriously. You want girls to jump you and get hot over your manly looks and armor?

...I'm not even sure what to say about that.

Back on topic though. Romances from the prior game are acknowledged. And I imagine that it is possible that many of these companions will be back for a longer game. I'm hoping they might be romanceable then. Or that you can at least flirt with Anders, since he can hit on the female NPCS.

What does everyone mean by "romance"? The possibility of pursuing a short-term relationship with one or a number of your party members with no serious game affecting repercussions? Flirtatious dialogue? Watching stiff "sex scenes"? Making passes at NPC barmaids? Leliana's approval dropping by 2 after visiting the Pearl?

I don't know if we are all on the same page or not..

For me, triggering a strangely protected sexual encounter by a cleverly placed bit of dialogue, followed by gushing expressions of affection and insecurity which can all be shut off at any moment with another little snippet of words, ending with a line of remorse, regret and disappointment is all a bit contrived. At the most, you suffer loss of approval. It's hardly the pinnacle of the game's character interaction. I much preferred watching my party members interact with each other while I focused on the mission and our potential fate.

That said, it doesn't detract from the game in any way, and it continues to push the envelope as BioWare always does, so I do not object to romance being in the game(s). I just don't find it is such a make-or-break point as other people do.

Perhaps we just haven't lived down the novelty of it yet.

Hmmmm people think their were more guns in ME1? Iv only seen 4, which came in a variety of different colours.

In ME2 at least you get single shot snipers, semi auto, burstfire rifles etc. + the heavy weapons. People just seem to complain cos they cant get a new assault rifle thats "blue". I do miss weapon mods tho.

Well for Mass Effect I was hopeing that romance would be a long term relationship and would have a effect on the story. I atleast hoped it would just because it had not been done and wanted to see if it could be done.

As for Awakening do you run into the person your warden I guess romanced in the game? If I remeber my epolgue it basically said they stayed togther for awhile then went there saparate way. I understand it problay is to hard story wise but would be nice if they are going to keep doing romances they expand on them. My be a genric thing paste in person like the love romance climax in ME (I am sorry if this makes no sense).

Oh well trying to learn more about this expansion so sorry if this had been answered a million times and if it is the wrong place to ask this.

If you romanced Alistair you'll see him again. Thats it.

No Morrigan as she's supposedly in Orlais.

No Zevran because his voice actor was too busy.

No Leliana because her voice actor was too expensive.

It's quite likely you'll hear about Morrigan, if she really is in Orlais. Since the Orlesians send you Grey Wardens to help you rebuild. Or at least, that's what I think happens.

Leliana is probably working with the Chantry about the Urn of Sacred Ashes.

Zevran is.. Uh. He ran away with Dog somewhere.(Kidding. But it could've happened.)

Regardless, whatever they're doing will probably be explained by someone. Most likely Alistair.

You'll have to wait and see. :P

I could be mean and say that since you let Anora kill him that you don't get any acknowledgement. But.. Yeah. I doubt that would happen.

You are so very cruel to kill him off though. It's like kicking a puppy. :crying:

Oh, please. Did they take out the dialogue in ME2? The choices? The resource-based upgrade system? Oh wait, they added that.

Well in my epilogue it said they stayed together, no separate ways and no break up. So its quite odd this wont continue. I really hoped the relations will go on in awakening... Like my faithful dog - what happened to him? Found some lovely brach and had dozens of puppies together? DAO was great at building relations with your companions, so its a pity all this relations wont continue same way your avatar does (I understand some characters had their own way, like Sten, but the ones who were more close to your avatar?) In BG2 throne of Bhaal everything continued directly where BG2 ended and it would be great if in DAA it would be the same. Well, maybe in DA2

There aren't romances because they didn't have time to make them. Not because they're streamlining the game.

ME2 was streamlined, and it still had romances. And ME2 ****? Are you high? Or do you not think somethings an rpg unless you have an inventory full of obsolete crap?

no im not high, mass effect 2 was rubbish. people that prefer it to ME1 arent RPG fans- simple as that.
and seeing as i am an RPG fan there pretty much the only games i like im hoping that dragon age awakening doesnt dissapoint

That's an opinion...and only yours.  I have been an RPG fan for 20 years and ME1 and 2 are as close to RPG as you can get.  Role Playing Game doesn't necessarily have a defined interface.  Just because you think bloated inventory makes an RPG, doesn't mean it is so.

LOL. If you think mass effect 2 is as close to an RPG as it gets then you must have been severely dropped on your head as a baby. Lol talk about having a minority opinion

OK...define Role Playing Game for me, Merlin.

Then, answer me this:  Was Diablo an RPG?  Seriously, how long have you been a gamer?  Have you even played old pen and paper D&D games?

My understanding is that if you got naughty with Alistair that he complains briefly about being too shy and suffering from 'performance anxiety' now so no more sugar for you.

Aaah the good old d&d tabletop game, how I miss it... At least I can strangle the GM and deny him his weekly booze and chocolate if he messed with my game too much. Ahh the good old days...

Sometimes romances just don't fit and feel forced. I have a feeling Awakenings is going to be one of those times. The mission takes priority, like it or not.

And anyway, I feel romances waste developer time and detract from the length of the game... which already being short as it is an expansion, I'm really glad they didn't waste their time on a bunch of NPC's who quite likely won't be around for the next expansion.

I think main reason why Awakening will not have romances is coz will not last as DAO and thats reason why designers decided to focus on main story.

OK so some people love the romance options and some don't and some are indifferent. That's fair enough but what makes DAO so great is that it has something for everyone, and if you don't like some of the elements, you can pass them by. The romance gives DAO an extra level of interest to many and the kind of extra dimension and depth that helps us to identify much more closely with our characters and their companions and therefore draw us into the game. To some extent, romance has become a signature of BW games, and the contribution it makes to roleplay gives BW an edge over the opposition imo.

I think part of the problem with Awakenings is that because it is an expansion of DAO, many people naturally expected they would be able to continue their adventures and romance with at least some of their existing (or at least their surviving) companions and maybe even find some new opportunities for romantic roleplay. Many people have invested a lot of time and effort and, yes, emotion into their characters and companions, and finding that they were to be gone from the expansion (except for some sort of "acknowledgement") came as a shock, hence I think the reaction generally.

I do hope that BioWare will not water down or remove the romance from future follow-ups to DA: Origins, That would be a great shame. I hope that instead they will build on the assests they created.

No, you're away on a business trip. A husband and wife dont spend every waking second for the rest of their lives together.
