Okey, abviously a topic intended for all the mage characters between us. ^_^
I would really like to hear from you what kind of mage you are planning to be.
The specialisations are Shapeshifter, Spirit Healer, Blood Mage and Arcane Warrior.
You can specialise in at max 2 specialisations or simple none.
I myself am definitly going to be a blood mage, the 'dark' aspect of the whole specialisation really apeals to me =)
I dont know if i choose a second specialisation, shapeshifter seems kinda cool because,
a lady from bioware on the game event I visited today kinda spoiled to me that you would be able to transform into a dragon at the end!
]that seems awsome, but I usually don't like the 'physical' aspect it brings, for the same reason I don;t choose to be an arcane warrior.

It really depends on the personality of the mage I'm playing. For my first playthrough, however, I'll most likely become a Spirit Healer with my Human mage. With my Elf mage I might be a Blood Mage once I figure out what her character will be like.

I'll have to try Shapeshifter sooner or later, unless all shapes you can change in are melee combat oriented.. I loved the Shifter in NWN, it was super-versatile and fun to play.

my first mage will be very interested in forbidden/hidden knowledge so the blood mage specialization seems fitting, as long as you don't have to do something like making a deal with a demon to unlock it. I hesitate on my second spec, but probably not shapeshifter, especially if, as seems likely, you can't cast spells while shifted. My first mage would *never* gve up the ability to cast spells for any reason, even to turn into a dragon. ;)

Definitely a spirit healer, I'm not sure about my second specialization yet.

My spell selection will be mostly creation and entropy spells, with perhaps frost or flaming weapons trown in there.

I'll be the buff/debuff-bot standing waay in the back while tougher and more.. expendable people do the heavy lifting - it's the mage way.

Not sure about the specializations. I'd have to see what exactly they all offer. Right now I think I may go spirit healer or blood mage.

I'll most likely take a variety of spells but focus on the more subtle ones.

With Sarah prolly Arcane Warrior and maybe shapeshifter. With my other mage Cylan he'll be going more the evil route as a Bloodmage.

I think spell wise for both mostly direct damage elemental spells with a few glyphs and slowdown type comboable spells like grease just for effect.

When I get around to it, I'll probably end up doing a balanced spirit healer/arcane warrior. Actually, I plan on playing a mage character who doesn't like being a mage and is pretty bitter about the whole deal; hopefully it'll make for interesting RPing.

That's okay M_arc.. I'll save ye the trouble by proclaiming ALL mages will play the same and BE the same in that they will wiggle their fingers at enemies whilst standing behind the hulking, armored dwarf with big pointy weapons... 'nuff said :P

Lightning, Shapeshifting, & perhaps Fire. If I got points after that, hopefully by then, i've gotten a better idea of the game & can decide what I wanna do with the rest of the points then.

Definitely shapeshifter. I've always loved letting an enemy aproach what they think is a squishy mage, and then turning into a giant creature.

Blood mage and spirit healer. I haven't liked shapeshifting in most games this far. You either turn into a pig and give up all spellcasting ability (IWD) or you turn into a pig and still keep casting like nothing happened (NWN2). I don't really see the point.

Maybe you should wait to see the actual forms you get and what they can do before dismissing shapeshifting in DA. One of the NPCs starts with that spec, so you should be able to test it out before making a decision.

I tried out the shapeshifter prestige class in NWN: Hordes of the Underdark and it was the coolest thing ever.

It doesn't look like the shifter specialization in Dragon Age gets near the number of forms (only 4?) but hopefully each one will have its own abilities and uses.

It won't be my first playthrough, probably my second; my selfish, insecure, power hungry mage will definitely be going shifter.

I had another great idea for a mind type mage (Enchanter, Charlatan, Illusionist, etc). Do any of the specializations cater to this?

You need to watch the Sacred Ashes Trailer! Image IPB There's a Shapeshifting demonstration in it!

My first mage is all about Entropy, and isn't yet high enough level to choose a spec:

My second mage is all about Creation and will probably go for Healer, but again, isn't high enough level yet:

I have been planning my Arcane Warrior for a couple days now. My only problem is trying to include enough mana replenishing spells into my builds to make up for the possiblity of serious fatigue while playing an AW.

There's my more RP based idea of an "Elven Spiritual Battlemage" focusing mainly on Earth, Death, Telekinetic and Summoning (or Ice) lines by level 20ish. Can't decide whether to focus on shattering enemies or death bombing as a main killing strategy.

My other (and maybe more practical) idea is a spell spammer using the heaviest armor possible and focusing on low/mid-tree primal spells. The idea being to survive short range combat while exploiting the cheap cost and fast recharge of my selected spells. Hopefully the low activation costs will minimize any serious fatigue problems Arcane Warriors may face and keep my damage high as well.

If I decide to make a dark mage with a good currupted heart, I will definately go Arcane Warrior and Blood Mage to get around the mana problem. However, my evil and/or misguided character phase ended about a year ago and my need to play paragon PCs is back in full swing.
