On subsequent playthroughs I might name him "Sylvius the Mad" given that only the dog can have a name that long.

I'm putting a space (alt+0160) in all my names now just to make a point.

Well, 'Boggins' was the obvious choice, in a nod to the slobbering, stinky, foul-mouthed yet loveable (and possibly imaginary)  dog who haunts Adam and Joe (check out their BBC podcasts!) But I decided to keep in character, and name him something fantasy-esque - and settled on Hedred instead.

At what part of the game do you get a dog or does a certain quest have to be completed?  I'm currently back at the Tower in Fade not the test at the beginning of the game.

You can get him right after Ostagar by talking to the houndmaster who sets you on a quest which ultimately gives you the option of getting the dog.
