It would really suck if you named your dog Schmooples and did Orzammar way late in the game.
Kind of  a one-in-a-million coincidence, but it can happen.

First time through - human female noble - named the puppy Monster

Second time through - dwarf female noble - named the dog Steelfang

I'm thinking 3rd time I'll play a dwarf male common and name him Fluffy

Personally I just went with the coolest rpg pet ever...Dogmeat. (though I briefly toyed with Dog - nastiest npc from Arcanum).

My dogs have been "Ripley" (from Ripley off Aliens) and Jai'an (An everquest 2 / AION character name I made up).... they are also the RL names of my two dogs My golden ret is "Ripley" and my choc lab is "Jai'an"

For my Human Noble playthrough, I named him Bran. Bran was the name of one of Fionn mac Cumhail's dogs, and since Ferelden is inspired partly by Celtic mythology, I figured it was a fitting name.
