I'm just glad Eclipse doesn't have any Krogan, cause holy ****; if they had some Krogan charging you alongside their Engineers, Vanguards and heavy infantry, they would be downright unholy.

Actually, there's a lone Eclipse Krogen (he comes with 2 Asari Engineers) in Thane's recruitment mission.  Probably the toughest mini-boss fight in the game.

He is a bloodpack bounty hunter.Just work together with eclipse. And he is only tough because of the suprise when you play the game first.Otherwise not.And asari engineers didnt exist in the game. The one eclipse have are humans and salarians.

Husks. Husks. Husks.

Nothing better than Singularity. Save your bullets, you only need to shoot them to remove their armor. They would then walk up to their INSTANT death. Even with their armor on it gives you time to move out of their melee range or use Warp to detonate the singularity (double damage to whatever survives).

I'd rate it:

1 Reaper Larva
2 Thresher Maul
3 Harbinger Controlled Collectors
4 Collectors
5 Husks
6 Mercenaries
7 Krogan
8 Security Bots
9 Everything Else...

Reaper Larva? Are you serious! I put my finger on the Warp shortcut and was having lunch with the other hand. You just need to stay in cover and watch the Warp ball torpedo onto the Reaper's eye. Don't waste your ammo on that thing if you have got patience.

Thrasher Maw can be difficult if you intend to kill it. The heavy weapons usually run out of ammo. Biotics are ineffective due to their cooldown time (you got only 5 minutes or so); though you may combine them with gunfire, yet they aren't likely to cause significant damage. But if you intend to just survive then there is plenty of cover:
During lateral attacks:
1. besides the keystone trigger on either side
2. There are a couple of concrete pillars towards the left, when you face opposite to the keystone. You can take cover behind them without running around too much as the Tharsher changes position
During frontal and diagonal attacks:
1. Obviosly croutching below the front cover.

Based on my experience I would say the flame throwers are most annoying as they can catch you off guard and you can rarely escape once you are caught by even a single blow of their torch. The Harbingers are a nuisance as they tend to throw you out of cover with their biotic attacks; otherwise they do not deal much damage. Krogans are deadly only when they are in close combat as most use powerful shotguns and tend to use charge often. You can use Singularity on them to slow down while raining down gunfire. Warp takes care of their health regeneration issue.

Overall I would say SIngularity and Warp combined with a little gunfire (for shields) can take down ALMOST anything except the Reaper, Thrasher and Scions (Warp works well on the slow Scions)

Actually you can hide behind the farthest obstacle opposite the elevator wherein the only way to reach behind would be to jump over it. You can take cover and have your lunch while you wait for your biotic powers to recharge.

Or you can just take cover where it cant hit you, and kill it with ease.  Some people consider that an exploit, but I just think of it as "superior tactical deployment". :)

Thresher maw is ridiculously simple. Stand in the very middle of the arena and just strafe when it slings spit at you. You know, move side-to-side like in old school shooters.

EDIT: Toughest groups I've faced are probably Eclipse or the Collectors (especially if supplemented by husks/scions/etc)

I would like to add the Geth Hunters who use cloak and can run past you squad with out taking a single hit from them. Though they do not attack while in cloak but they are deadly once they are past your squad (and your defenses). They can also soak a lot of damage while being in cloak and moving towards you. Singularity seems effective as it slows them down and runs out their cloak duration.

I tried the flamethrower against husks on the first collector ship mission, and it didn't work that well. It allows the husks get too close - you're much better off instakilling them with avalanche or grenades.

There's a flamethrower in ME2?

EDIT:

Prerequisite: Zaeed Massani

The M-451 Firestorm can be found during Zaeed Massani's loyalty quest, on the body of a dead mercenary. Zaeed and his quest are available as a downloadable content pack for Mass Effect 2.

Sigh, I guess I finally have to install that annoying turd.

Having been through the game with 3 different classes now, I have to say that every class is strong or weak vs a particular type of enemy.

While lacking some of the standout  strengths of some of the other classes, I don't see soldiers as having a particular weakness against any enemy or situation in the game.

Soldiers lack in fun though since they always use the same tactic for almost every battle in the game.

So soldier's weaknesses? Being actually fun to play as.

on insanity blue suns and eclipse were difficult mainly because they were versatile and tough.  Mixture of heavy weapons, shottys, biotics, and tech attacks.  The hardest thing is dealing with tough shields and armor and requiring a balanced team with more micro management.

SO i agree with OP

Yeah, actually *shooting* things in a *shooter*...I can definitely see how that is less fun than sitting behind cover and spamming auto-hit homing abilities requiring no particular player skill or effort, like half of the other classes in the game.:innocent:

Let the /derail commence.

Must resist the urge to...oh forget about it.  Its actually an Action RPG which is good because it allows it to cater to both fans of RPG's and shooters.   People who are rpg fans first and shooter fans second tend to prefer the power classes and people who are shooter fans first can find enjoyment with the soldier.  It isn't a traditional RPG but becasue of this it caters to a wide varity of playstyles.  Of course people who went in expecting a traditional rpg will be disappointed where as shooter fans can make a smoother transition so it is slightly more action oriented than other ARPG's.

Ok well hopefully that is enough derailing.

EDIT:  There is skill required in playing the other classes which involves knowing which skills will be the most useful for a particular moment.  Damage skills aren't always the best option sometimes freezing a guy is better than lighting him on fire.

I'm currently playing as a soldier on insanity as we speak and I'm having the time of my life.
