DA:O combat is a lot more strategic, it's no actionRPG like Mass Effect. It's more similar to Baldur's Gate or NWN. Different kind of game, I enjoy both, but I understand if someone only likes one kind.
Well see, there's a difference here. I liked NWN, KotOR, etc. Those are turn based games. You can set them to auto-pause every round, and then issue commands. KotOR even allowed you to make a queue of actions for each character beforehand and then let it play out. Unless you're good at setting up AI scripting, DA:O tries to play out in realtime while making you pause over and over to switch around characters and issue single commands. Not to mention half of the most powerful spells in DA:O couldn't even be put into the scripting, since on higher difficulties they would hurt the party as well.
I like challenges so that's not a problem for me.
The only reason they devolved into 1:1 wasn't because they were hard, it was because I couldn't get the AI to heal or chug potions fast enough. Whatever character I controlled myself could solo the encounter, it's just that the AI all fell flat without micromanagement. I'm not good at micromanaging several units, it's why I suck at StarCraft, even if I like the game.
Hey, people have their own agenda and opinions and it won't always coincide with yours. What can I say, I'm a sucker for tragic stories, I don't always want a happy ending.
It depends on who you romance though, it's completely different on each one.
The regret was that I let Lelianna go. Then again, I didn't really 'like' either girl all that much, it's just that Morrigan was my only real heavy hitter. When she ran off on me, it left me fighting the entire rest of the game with one hand tied behind my back.
