True, isn't the captain supposed to go down with the ship? 

I am not sure that is entirely true.  I thought that the captain is supposed to go down with the ship if the entire crew cannot get off.  As far as I know, Captains are supposed to be the last ones off the ship, but that does not mean dying if there is no one left to save.

That may depend on whether you consider Commander Shepard or Mr. Moreau to be the captain of the vessel.

Actually, if you want to get right down to it it's Shepard's fault s/he died. I mean wouldn't you have hopped right into the escape pod after you got Joker in there? I mean s/he hangs around to see the ship get blown up? What an idiot.

now...honestly..my "canon" shepard..for myself...is a paragon..a goody goody...so he doesn't necessarily blame Joker...though if it was me I'd tease him about it in a joking but not joking kind of way...

however in my Renegade playthrough...I don't see how I don't have the option of downright ****ing him out and throwing in his FACE how my death was HIS fault...and if not refusing to let him back on MY ship at LEAST telling him that if he so much as blinks after I give him an order I'm putting a vent in his forehead with my rifle.

actually, Joker refusing to leave the ship as soonas Shepard hit the abandon ship alarm is at least deriliction of duty, disobeying a lawful order, and at worst, mutiny. he is the helmsman, also known as a "Limo Driver"

IIRC he refers to himself as a helmsman in ME1.

both of them are military men. And It is the duty of the captain to do his best to make sure everyone make it out alive. Regardless of a Reg or a Para, Shepard is a military men thru and thru. Joker did his best as a pilot to save the ship and everyone else.
