I think that downloadable content can be valuable in tailoring the experience we want from the final installment of Mass Effect.

Bioware wouldn’t touch the main plot or any of the pre-established squad relationships. That is the core of the story that has already been established, and is content I feel they are obligated to provide. DLC should deal with characters that gamers (with large community support) are asking to be included.

(Self serving example)
Example being: Bioware offers DLC for Shiala as a squad member. If you killed Shiala in Mass Effect 1 you don’t need to buy here content for Mass Effect 3. If you want to include her you pay your $5 and have the experience from the game you were seeking.

As a consumer I never want to pay more for what I want in a product; but what I want is beyond the expectations or desires of many of the other consumers (players), and other consumers (players) have desires for things that I am simply not interested in as well. We can’t expect the community of players to fit the bill for our individual tastes. Let Bioware deliver a core product to us, then allow us to customize our experience if the story we seek to experience goes beyond the core game package.

Thank you.

The role of the DLC right now (the ones we're getting for free) is to get the rest of the content that BioWare didn't have time to finish. It allowed them to meet the deadline, although I don't know whether that deadline was set by EA or BioWare. I'm assuming direct control that Zaeed and Normandy DLCs were finished after the game had already been prepared for distribution.

Hammerhead, Kasumi and weapon DLCs are also part of that content, so we won't see the true quality of Mass Effect 2 DLC until those are actually released. Hopefully, it won't be like Mass Effect 1 or Dragon Age, where the DLC is just recycled five-dollar content.

I'm in the same boat. I'd like to see some serious DLC. "Bring Down the Sky" type content was fun, but as you said, it's $5 worth of content.

I remember hearing Gabe Newell from Valve toying with this sort of idea of "community-funded content" or something to that effect.

According to the credits though Zaeed and the Normandy DLC where done by seperate teams. Not sure how significant that is but they did say they were setting aside teams to work exclusively on DLC. Id say they were more likely always planned to be day one DLC rather than included in the game. Just another reason to buy it new or pay for cerberus network. Plus releasing a character and mission right away already goes a long way to make up for the mistakes of the ME1 DLC.

I really hope for some story expanding DLC's. I would really love a DLC that let you help Liara and explore the Shadow broker plot. ME 2 introduced many new characters, so getting a new one like Kasumi isn't as interesting ( I probably buy it anyway just to support Bioware and in hope for some good story connected to the character). It would be really nice if they introduced new content that sew together the ME2 plot with the future ME3 plot and that made more sense then for instance "Bringing down the sky".
