I honestly don't know how some of you guys are finishing in the 30 to 40 hour range, even if you're skipping dialogs.

In my opinion you can't really experience all there is to offer in just 30 to 40 hours of play time.

Same here. Eerie how similar our first runs were.

I didn't even find Sten or Lelianna in my first run. I killed Zevran. It's a good thing this game supports multiple play throughs!

I probably wouldn't have found all the companions (I certainly would have killed Zevran) my first time through if BioWare hadn't released the names of the companions in advance.

I really wish they hadn't done that.

I am at about 300 hours and 2/3 finished.

I pause a LOT. I look at the scenery (scoping the ceiling for spiders even). I scout everything with a rogue. My combat is is very tedius looking for best positioning (to avoid flanking and for CoC spell). I will do conversations in multiple dialogue paths to see what happens sometimes (like
Goldanna). I do not use tactics and I micromanage everything and every character.

Obviously ... maybe I need psych help ... but I don't care :huh:Image IPBcast

Anyone finishing the game under 40 hours isn't playing the game properly. I try and do at least 90% of the games quests. I say 90% as some quests are class or skill based making it impossible to do 100% in one run. I normally I take about 80 odd hours. I normally hit around level 23 to 24 at the end of the game. I'm trying to get every achievement available and I aren't far off.

So yeah I liked to take my time.

I checked my recent playthroughs and i went ~120 1st time, ~90 2nd time, and ~70 on my run through on Nightmare (i skipped most dialogue & cut scenes, but i did all quests but no DLC)...

i also reach 23-24 levels at games end.

my first (and only run) was about 32 hours, i did most sidequests and read dialogue, i def could not see myself playing a game for 80+ hours when the main story isint even close to being that long.

Wow! this is turning into an interesting discussion. All styles of gameplay. If as Relhart mentioned the game counts pauses, and as the Moderator, Eurypterid, pointed out it counts time spent reading codexes, then that explains a *lot* in my total time. I pause all the time, and read everything. Guess I just figure I want to really immerse myself in the experience, but I understand other people are looking to get different things out of it. It's all good.

About 50-60 hours, with a few side-quests not done. That, of course, doesn't include reloading :P

You are *awesome*! (BTW, I am in the psych field; talk to myself; play computer games with my OCD tendencies; have lots of fun; think there's nothing wrong with it.) Image IPB

My first playthrough (female Dalish elf dual-wield warrior) was a few minutes short of 60 hours. Did most of the side quests, but not all. Body count was 2770.

i just wanted to check and confirm - Pause and bringing up the Main Menu does not stop the clock (the clock keeps counting time in the game).

i pause and walk away often, more so with my first couple walkthroughs than my recent walkthroughs (at first, i didn't want to turn it off... ever...;:o))... so my first couple plays probably had the typical x2 for time plus a significant amount of pause time...

i expect to finish my current walkthrough in about 50-55 hours, but thats without reading codexes, etc., but includes pauses.. so if i had never paused, or had the game loaded in the background while i talk on the forums, i could most likely run through in about 40 hours now that i know the game...

skipping certain side quests would shave off another few hours maybe... so i can see where 35 hours would be a rather complete, albeit imo *sterile*, experience of the game for a first timer...

i have a friend who refuses to become immersed in games, and rips through games rather quickly... but he tends more towards FPS than RPGs...

First run through was around 45 hrs doing as many things I could find. It seems that all my playthroughs where I go for "completion" are around 45 as well. I tend to drag out conversations (never skip if I can help it). It looks as though most people that are higher than 50 hrs took alot of time to read codex entries. While I appreciate them for the lore and how they flesh out the world there is no way I can sit in front of my TV reading all of them, it just feels like a waste of time to me lol.

First run throught including all DLC and not skipping cut-scenes took me 62hrs and I think I only missed a couple of quests. Second playthrough (again all DLC) skipped through all the cut-scenes expect the new ones (different Origin) and took me 42hrs

Codex entries aren't for everyone. I read the ones that I think are going to be juicy or important to the pieces of lore I find the most interesting. Otherwise, I'm happy just listening to what everyone has to say. But yeah, that kind of thing is definately what sets a 30 hr clear from 150+. I'm still really glad that they're there if I ever want them. It's comforting to know that the world they created is well fleshed.

Sometimes when I don't feel like doing the same quests again but I'm in a Dragon Age mood, I just fire it up and read codex entries. I always find some that I'd missed. The one about the guy from Rainesfere is probably my favorite.

There are indeed some hysterical ones in there if you bother to read the codex entries. Did you read the one about the "nugs", and how they can be turned into bite-sized edible tidbits? Guess what the punchline to that one was. Image IPB

My last save has 44 hours recorded but that doesn't include the reloading. I tried to hear almost all the dialogue variations :P

I would assume it took me about 60-70 hours to finish it

About 150 hours the first run, reading and doing everything. My other 5 runthroughs have still been in the 100-120 hour range, still doing everything but not reading all codex. I tend to want to explore *all* options in the game though, and play cautiously at higher difficulty. Can't understand how anyone can do it in less than 80 hours....

I played the game four times, and every game lasted slightly under 50 hours (47-50).

I missed a lot of content when doing my first playthrough, but the weird thing is that even subsequent ones (completing every sidequest) didn't last a lot longer. I don't skip conversations; however, I don't speak every time with all characters, either. It depends on roleplaying: some wardens are friends with Sten and speak with him a lot, while ignoring Leliana, for instance.
