The other extreme shocks me too. I try to be thorough, and I very rarely skip dialogue, but I always finish in the 50 to 60 hour range. Are you sure you people aren't pausing and leaving it for hours at a time? o.O

And to the guy above me. How can you have spent 10 hours just leaving lothering? I started a new playthrough and I'm done with lothering in 5.

I suspect you are missing out on a lot of content you are not aware even exists. Did you find all 6 black vials? Or did you think there were only 5, like I did on most playthroughs?
I finish around 80-90 hours, but I try talking to everyone and explore everything I can find. I backtrack a lot looking for items to buy or resources, etc.

Its not hard.
And no i did not complete 100% of the game in any one playthrough.
Yes i did know thier were 6 vials i just had a hard time finding them.
my 30+ hour playthrough was of my human warrior solo on casual.
My most recent playthroughs have ended in 20 hours. But i did not skip through all the dialougue.

Of course you can finish the origins quickly, its the other 95% of the game people are surprised you can finish in 12 hours.
Here's anther question, people who are finishing the game so quickly, not just Arrtis, are you using a guide to tell you where stuff is/what to do?

I know most of it by heart.
If you can remember the general things you can speed through quickly.
FIghts and tactics.such as who you can avoid fighting also.
maps and where important things are located.
and for a little extra speed getting out of convos quickly.
convos even speeding through can take a couple hours.
also having 3 mages with aoes can help.
2 lightning storms and blizzards plus an earthquake can take enemies out quickly. along with blood magic.

how can people go over 40 hours is a mystery to me. 12 hours seems like a very reasonable time frame, although you would be skipping and speed running through a lot of it. I did every single mission and I do not skip dialogues for two playthrough and it's never taken me over 35 hours. I'm not even super efficient at everything. I take pretty long to decide what talent I get and how to spend my inventories. To go 60 hours is doing what I did, with an extra 25 hours of nothing. I simply can't understand that. And whoever said they spend over 100 hours playing the game, I'm sorry, you've wasted so much time.
And to the guy above me. How can you have spent 10 hours just leaving lothering? I started a new playthrough and I'm done with lothering in 5.
I just checked more character files. Have to concede, that 10 hours to leave lothering was on my first playthrough. Consequent playthroughs are around 5-6 hours. Even still, that's almost half the 12 hours gone. How can someone possibly complete their origin, ostagar, korcari wilds, tower of ishal, Lothering, the Circle Tower, the Fade, the brecilian forest, the brecilian ruins, redcliffe village, redcliffe castle, the urn of sacred ashes, orzammar, the deep roads, the rescue of Anora, the alienage, the landsmeet, the return to redcliffe and the final battle in 12 hours?
Even if you could do that, which I don't believe you can (though I'm tempted to try it now. Did you play on easy?), you're missing all of the companions quests and most of their dialogue, the chanters board, the mages collective, favors for certain interested parties, blackstone irregulars, slim, and most of the minor quests that are available during each of the main quest lines.

If you're avoiding fights then you're not doing everything are you? The only reason I would ever avoid a fight is to try different scenarios (e.g. not killing Ser Cauthrion, but then of course that adds a chunk of time because of the quest that follows).

8th playthrough @ 100 hours, skipping most conversations and codices. No idea how people do it in <40 hours unless they are skipping as much as possible of the quests. I suppose playing on easy is a lot quicker. No friendly fire = fireball frenzy.

I'm on my third and a half (started a rogue and got to level 14 i think but got bored). I finished Lothering in about 4 hours. I finished mage's tower, redcliff, and soldier's peak DLC and I'm at 11. I do skip dialogues often, namely the boring ones, but I do not skip side missions. Also, I'm playing on nightmare, and I actually haven't died yet (i'm going for the landsmeet achievement : ) ) It's super easy as long as you have the right party and know what you're doing.
Obviously, this is no 12 hour playthrough. But considering how I took the time to do a lot of side quests and companion quests, it's pretty efficient.
I guess it's worth noting that
1) I do not read codexes (already read them all in previous playthroughs)
2) I only do side missions that are in the notebook, so I don't bother with things like the Chasind Trail and finding all 6 black vials.
3) I always keep in mind what side quests I have to do. I gather them all at the same time so I don't have to backtrack.
4) I've been on Dragonagewiki too many times to count, so yes, I know where everything is, at least the important ones.
5) I skip about half the dialogues.
6) I do not bother getting every item in the game, i.e. I never backtrack for loot.
7) I know what build I have in mind before I start the game so I spend like a minute at most choosing my talent per level.
Still, I don't see how that constitutes 25 hours of gameplay...

1st playthrough @ 200 hours. Listened to every word of conversation, read every codex. Lots of reloads, too. Even a fair amount of time spent just trying to control my character's movements. As noob as it gets.

You, my man, wow.
And for those who think the game's not as enjoyable if you're skipping sidequests and not talking to everyone, I disagree. I think, on the contrary, that it makes the game more authentic. Think about it. There's a Blight incoming and I'm here helping every little whelp in the world. Waste of time. It's stupid and doesn't make sense. Obviously it doesn't make the blight come any faster because it's a game, but if it was in real life I could never see myself doing all those "sidequests".
*** And don't throw one of those "But Dragonage isn't real life, duh" arguments. Yes, I realize realism isn't the concern here, but I'm talking about realism in a different manner, not the world and physics of the setting, but the practicality and logic of a given situation, i.e. never do side mission over main mission.
