(note I have the xbox version~) In the one playthrough where I did everything it took me 54 hours, I was on normal difficulty, got to level 23. My 3 other completed files (which were on casual, and only did half the quests) took me about 30~32 hours each.

So I've just finished playing DA - Origins, and the game stats tell me it took somewhere around 154 hours to complete. My sense is this is pretty long compared to many gamers (I'm amazed when I read that some players have been through the game 3 or 4 times already!), but I tend to take things slow and to be thorough. (I received the accomplishment, "easily sidetracked," for completing at least 75% of all sidequests, I think it was.) But then again that's how I read a good book: I'm in no hurry to finish it; I enjoy savoring every moment.

Also, I find myself wondering whether the "game timer" counts only "real-time" action in the game world (when characters are free to move around), or also time spent while in "pause" mode. I do tend to hit the "pause" button quite a lot, to look around the environment before plunging in.

So how long did it take you to finish the game? (Operational definition of 'finishing': defeating the archdemon and completing the short 'epilogue.')

First time?  110 hours.   Now its down to around 80ish hours, depends what I want to do. :)

I'm a completionist btw,  nothing skipped over, nothing left out. :)

Even as a "completionist" how did you do 110 or 154 hours? I got the traveller achievement, knocked off every quest on my list and had both original DLC's installed and was still under 50 hours.

Nope, read and listened to everything other than re-hashes of things I'd already heard. Worked the party dialog in camp for all it was worth too.

I did 110 hours not 154 hours.    Because I wasn't in a hurry...wasn't in a "rush to beat da game"  :)   I explored, read codexes,  ran back to check if I missed anything...first time out.

I am not a power gamer,  I enjoy the journey,  not the ending. :)

Besides..why does it matter how long I took,  seems to me ..that its not a contest, I am not competing to see who can complete it the fastest,  things like that don't interest me.    But I have played since November 3rd 2009,  have 22 characters most of which are completed, and 97 achievements.     I play on hard mode.

I might try Nightmare,  just haven't decided if I want to push it that far. ;)   Oh and I play in real time..in other words, no pause, go, pause, go, pause go.     Can't play that way, drives me batty to watch others on you-tube do that.  lol

110 hours of gameplay? that might bore me at that rate.

My hour count might fall between 70-80 hours. Hard isnt really that 'HARD'. But its all good.

Currently thats about what it takes for Origins + dlcs...80ish hours give or take an hour.    Note I stated 110 hours was my first play-through.    I had a learning curve to deal with.    Had played Oblivion, and Fallout 3 previously but mostly my main games were MMOs.  :)  Been playing online since 1995.

I thought I had replied to this long ago... well, there were many of these threads long ago... =)

Rage v1.0: 60 hrs before quitting and recreating cuz he sucked dogs balls, as Thaler the Fence would put it!
Rage v1.1: 110:00
Rage v2:0: 98:00
Rage v3.0: 57:55 (my best char)(+21:23 for Awakening)
ShadowRage: 82:23
Nina: 58:40
RageBow: 63:09 Starting Landsmeet
Ragedôr: 60:00 Starting Landsmeet (estimated. Story page bugged till re-upload!)

Plus a number of other chars that I deleted after or before finishing the game so no record of them on my persona page.

I only rushed those 2 chars under 60hrs to start them in Awakening. My normal run (always in NM diff, since the first char) takes around 80-100 hrs since I really take my time with the game and I actually would take longer if I could because I really hate game endings when I get attached to my characters and their companions!

Not "blaming" you or anything but since I did "everything" I wasn't sure how people went 2x-3x as slowly. I wish it'd taken me 110 hours because I was enjoying it that much but I didn't see how it could take that much longer.

I'm not sure how people finish in 15 hours, I'm barely through Lothering by that point. Why would someone buy a game and then rush through it? If I spend money on a game I want to see the most of the content so skipping quests in favour of "ingame realism" or whatever just doesn't make sense to me. The first time I try to do and see everything in the game and later I might skip a few boring sidequests I don't feel like doing.

Well first time through ..seems to me I had problems beating certain bosses,  so restart and try again type of thing,   Broodmother had me stumped about two tries ..til I figured where the best place in the room was. :)

Like I said..learning curve.   Now its a breeze,  I know what to do and how to win.    Flemeth was a pain at first until I figured that having all tank types wasn't a good idea :D   Now I use ranged...archer, mages ...dragons go down alot faster. :P

I guess people have different approaches to playig a game. If I pay good money for a game I want to take the time to enjoy my investment.

So do i.
I just do not spoil everything for myself my first run.
And because i do that and make games last as long as possible.
Doing EVERYTHING over and over is quite annoying imo.
ive done at least 10 full playthroughs and no idea how many incomplete.

To be honest "Nightmare" is just "Hard" mode with full spell damage to your party.  I personally can't tell the difference when playing between the two.  I actually beat the Archdemon faster in "Nightmare" than I did in "Hard" mode, granted I was using different characters, but we are only talking a DW Rogue vs DW Warrior.

Hmm interesting..well I might try it then. :)    Maybe I'll see something new. :)

51 hours 99% complete, must be missing a codex or quest some place I don't know

Err, what are you basing that 99% completion on? Because the way the game tracks percentage of game complete, you couldn't possibly have reached 99% in one play through with 51 hours clocked.

About 43 hours with a 100% completion rate.

Rhys you can get 99% completion rate if you have the game guide in 51 hours. I did it in 43 hours in one play through. But then again I had the game guide for it too and that was before I downloaded Return to Ostagar.

On console or PC?

I'm on PC and 100% completion seems to require that you not only complete everything, but experience all alternative outcomes for each quest. I've been playing DA almost exclusively since its release date and I still have only 81% completion.

First run - 44 hours

What I consider my best run - just under 60 hours

I got 100% completion, did all quests and read every codex entry, in my best run. I call it my best run cause I got the story to play out exactly how I wanted it to.

I think how long it takes you to finish the game depends on what difficulty you play on. Mainly because of the harder combat and the pausing involved. Playing on casual, you really don't need to pause combat at all. Therefore, combat ends faster, then with the pausing and planning on higher difficulties.

I play on hard and I STILL don't pause. :) Going to try Nightmare that way too, see if I can still do it.

I like to be in the middle of things, battle etc. Guess because I'm an exMMO player. Couldn't pause there. hehe

If you don't use tactics then it will take longer to pause and unpause but the tactics have worked well at all difficulty levels I've played at so I really spend my time micormanaging one character and letting the rest run on auto-pilot.
