I really do, but not only in DA:O. And do not mean that ugly-stupid-allways angry stereotype but solid earthly race living in balance with nature. I think the only game allowing for such character was Oblivion but I did not like that game nonetheless.
Does anyone miss Orcs?

No, I don't miss them. Darkspawn are more interesting.

Orcs are tired, as well as elves and dwarfs. But what are you gonna do.

Nope, don´t miss ´em. I´ve seen my fair share of orks since warcraft 1 and I wouldn´t mind seeing none for some years.

I always felt guilty about killing Orcs. They seemed so naive, so easily swayed by any big bad that came along. Poor guys.

Well, at least the history and social status of the elves in DAO are a bit different from run-of-the-mill fantasy. Reminds me a bit of the elves in The Witcher.Euphrati wrote...

The Dwarves ended their stinkin race long ago... we have better enemies to slay now...*Cracks knuckles at an Ogre*

Darkspawn kind of look like orcs, but I don't really care. I only care about the story.

I don't miss them at all, very pleased to see something new (kind off)
I've become bored of the classic lotr chars, to many orc in to many games imo, nice to see a new sort of enemey, and dragons of course

It seems I was a bit ambiguous here. I do not miss Orcs as enemies, of course not. But sometimes I wish to play an Orcish shaman trying to save his northern barbaric tribe from extinction. Having Orcs as a dying breed, so they would be only for a PC to pick up ... I like that idea.
(No, I do not with to fight Orcs ever since Gothic 2, it was hell of a mundane job.)

Might be the Dalish elves are a bit like that - a sort of tribe secluded from civilization, trying to survive.

I'm such a huge fan of orcs that I even spent about $3,000 on an orc costume one year (don't ask..please...)
But I still don't miss them...everything in the Fantasy world is so overused...so it's a nice change to see something different.

I wouldn't say that I miss them. Rather that I would like to see them in more roles than as the villian. The mindless and violent depiction of Orcs is tired.

I don't miss orcs at all. I wish they'd boot elves and dwarves for once too while they're at it, but that probably counts as being "risky" in the game world.

The enemies in the trailer could pass as an Orc at any nightclub in town.

I don't get it? You people don't like Orcs, Elves, or Dwarves? Why the hell do you play fantasy games then? I mean yeah it is the same story over and over and I LOVE that BioWare is challenging allot of the old stereotypes of fantasy. Yet those stereotypes are what keep me coming back for more as well.

I don't mind enemies being less intelligent and sort of clumsy, we don't all need enemies to be like the monster form alien, were would be the fun in that? What I do miss in Orcs and what imo would be a cool idea is the concept of a 'hyve mind'. That would turn those stupid powerhouses into a much more deadlier and cooler weapon. But maybe that's only suited for the insect type of enemies..

That's the sad part. There is no cool story to go with it. I got obsessed. I first made my own simple costume..using cheap clothes and make-up and such..but I wasn't satisfied..so then I decided I would research better stuff. In the end I spend 1,000 on Kropserkel (Replica company) armor that was very close to the actual movie gear, and 1,500 on a custom made mask..plus other pieces like swords, and add-ons. So in the end I spent that much...and didn't go to any places where they had contests. A couple of friends parties I won best costume..but no reward. Won best costume at work..got a small reward. Basically it was a really embarassing act and waste of money..it was fun.....but in the end I sold all the gear for about half what I paid.
See why obsession can be a bad thing? I have pics at home I will post some for everyone to see when I get off work. =0
I did post last years costume..talk about embarassing...I went from Orc..to well, you'll just have to see for yourself:

It's not that I don't like them, it just gets samey after a while. They could change the setting to something from Indian, African, or south American mythology, or come up with a new race that doesn't have pointy ears or live underground. *Shrug* Saying that, it's not something that really bothers me, I just like to see a little more variation.JasonPogo wrote...
