Oh I found an orc picture (not a very good one though)..

http://rememberingelvis.com/orc.jpg

Furthermore, I think the Darkspawn look a lot like orcs..so it's a nice change of pace to have a similar beast, yet different...if that makes sense.

I used to miss orcs a lot, but then I levelled up a few times and got a shed load of +2 arrows. No more missed orcs.

Awesome looking costume at least, even if the expense was prolly not quite worth it in the end. Though I suppose its the experience that counts more than anything else. Image IPB

Oh the experience was learned..my wife repeatedly reminds me.."Don't be an idiot.." when I start obsessing about something that involves overspending..he he..if I keep at it..she just simply says "Orc...?"

I stop.

*chuckles* That I can definately understand. Hey at least in the case of Dragon Age its only a 70 dollar purchase. Well for me at least it was, CE, overnight shipping that better be here on the street date or I'ma hunt me down some gamestop corporate employees. Though they'll credit me the shipping charge if it doesn't show up supposidly.

Well, not quite only $70 dollars.  I bought Both books, thats $30, I upgraded my computer, 4 Gig Ram that was about $20, then my graphics card, that was $160, then my CPU, that was another $160.  Then the game $50.  So... $420 tecnically, for this obsession.  At least it wasn't $3,000...not yet anyways..haha.

LOL not quite that outrageous this time, I suppose I can add 30 for both books as well. Thankfully this machine I'm on is a fairly hefty 3ghz  64X2 Dual with 4 gigs of ram and an 8800 GTS. Obviously not top of the line by any means but I'm fairly confident it'll handle Dragon Age on high settings without much issue.

Orcs vary wildly in games, Personly I even liked the more troll like purple orcs in Dungeon Keeper with their long grey hair, armed with a hammer and shield.

The Orcs seen in Enclave where the most impressive I ever saw though, with their yellowish skin, red eyes, big teeth and muscled yet slim frame.

They look terrible in warcraft though, with their poison green skin and rediculous muscles.

Not that great in neverwinter nights either to be honest, they looked like rugby players, and some are blue.

Personly I would like to see orcs as more intelligent evil. Not the minions, but the leading force of evil that doesnt shy away from brutalities but is also capable of negotiations, diciplined battle formations and strategy.

No. I think orcs and goblins and dwarves and elves should stay in Middle-earth, where they belong. I much prefer setting-specific races. My favourite setting is the Hyborian age where all races are related to our history and mythology. Most are human-like races, and yet they are interesting and unique. Dragon Age somehow seem closer to this, even if they have dorfs and elfs and stuff... but the enemy is a demonic force, like it often is in the Hyborian stories, and not some silly goblin army or whatever.

Yes. I wish there were orcs, goblins, vampires, mummies, wraiths, spectors, shadows, liches, genies, medusas, and tons of others that I'm too lazy to mention. And let's not forget Pirates as a PC and NPC class option as well. There's always the trusty toolset to realize your fantasy world.

I hate orcs, ugly and stupid. As ennemies, Sarkspawn replace them well....... And I've never wanted to play as an orc, so no problem for me really.

They are the zombies of the phantasy genre.. Orcs rule!

LOTR orcs are pretty much similar to darkswapn anyway.

I detest WOW orcs. Or even the warhammer orcs. ""comedic"" brutes getting old fast.

^^ Pretty much, at least as far as LoTR orcs = darkspawn. The details are different, of course, but they both fit into the "evil and bent on world annihilation" category.

I really do, but not only in DA:O. And do not mean that ugly-stupid-allways angry stereotype but solid earthly race living in balance with nature. I think the only game allowing for such character was Oblivion but I did not like that game nonetheless.

When have there ever been orcs as an 'earthly race living in balance with nature?'

I miss them a little, but I wouldn't want to see them in DA if they were typical orcs anyway. I prefer the nobler variants from game settings such as Eberron. Orcs and goblins feel I don't know... more down to earth and interesting. How they struggle to eke out an existence in the wild and have a somewhat primitive culture. They're not so bland as elves that are usually written as near perfect beings living in virtually utopian communities.

Stereotypical orcs put me to sleep.

Orcs? I'd rather go back to the days of giant rats and spiders. Lots and lots of epically powerful vermin of varying size and color, in every possible level range. "Adventurer" is just a funny word for exterminator.

Yes! Eberron mention. *Gives seagloom gold star*. Good times.

I don't see anything wrong with orcs, or elves or dwarfs. I just want to see more intersting spins on them, which thankfully I think Dragon Age will provide.

I don't want to say anything about the darkspawn being orcs...but I'm gonna. They're pretty much -demonic- orcs. Which is fine, as long as there is an intersting story behind them. (I haven't looked at the lore yet myself.) I think bio-ware has got a good point with the whole "We dont' want to have to make people learn about new races, we'd rather take something familar and put a new spin on it." thing.

I'm thinking Warcraft? They seem to have that tribal thing going on. In the Elderscrolls (Oblivion) orcs today are kinda like that too, you can play as an orc and they are not evil and neither are dark elves for that matter.

:)
