Okay, this is pretty awkward and the first time this happened to me.

I'm currently romancing Ashley, so obviously I've been talking to her after every major mission, and I'm always nice to her.
So far, after becomming a spectre, I've only done the Liara recruitment mission and a ****load of side-missions, which are not related to the main story.

Now I just finished the Bring Down The Sky mission and I talked to Ashley again. This is usually the moment you'll hear her sister through the speaker, saying that Shepard is cute.
However, this time, her sister said that Kaiden is cute! What the...?
Lucky though, when I asked Ash about her and Kaiden she said she didn't have any interrest in him.

So I was wondering. Did I somehow magically kill my romance with Ash? Or can I still romance her? And why did her sister mention Kaiden instead of Shepard, while I've always been nice to her?

Do I detect a hint of jealousy? I wouldnt worry about it as Kaidan will probably turn down Ash because he is in fact gay.

On a more serious note I think that you may be screwed on the romance with Ash because I think that conversation plays a big part in taking up a romance with Ash. I myself have never had this happen, I dont know if it is a glitch or if you killed the romance early.

However I will say that I have always tried to avoid a romance with Ash and as far as I know the only way to kill a romance with her is to chew her out for discussing how cute her commanding officer may or may not be with her sister or choose Liara when the 2 confront you in the debreifing room.

I'm fairly certain that means your romance with Ashley is now pretty much dead. Like it's been said, that particular conversation in its own right plays a large role in determining whether or not to romance Ashley. No matter what Ash may tell you about her feelings toward Kaidan or you.

The reason I think you missed up is because you might have talked to Liara and accidentally became too nice to her by telling her that you are interested in her. This can happen as early as your second conversation with Liara after bringing her aboard the Normandy, which is why it's in fact easier to romance Liara than Ash.

If you still want to go for Ash, then there's one solution that doesn't involve starting a new playthrough from scratch. Go to Load Game through the Pause menu and find a save prior to or during the Liara mission or close, somewhere around that, and reload from there to continue and redo your mistake.

Ashley's romance can be tricky at times, mainly due to confusing dialogue options and whatnot. On my 4th playthrough, I always thought she was my love interest, until I found out that that was Liara. I was extremely shocked, especially seeing as how I didn't know about that until the last quarter of the game, during the detention visit to the Citadel. So there was no way for me to go back and just ended up romancing Liara instead. I corrected my mistake in later playthrough's, though.

Good luck to you.

how is it confusing, just press the button on the upper right of the dialogue circle, and tell liara you are not interested in her..it's really that simple :/. You could also just not talk to Liara.

^ Pretty much, yes. But it's still a trap many of us have gone through! ;) Image IPBImage IPB

You basically have to pay good attention when talking to either one of them (Liara and Ashley), especially at the beginning. It's all about carefully choosing your dialogue options. Image IPBImage IPB

Well, I never talked to Liara to be quite honest, just for the sake that I couldn't ruin the romance-build-up with Ash. So yeah that's prertty weird. :S

Are you sure? That's really weird. Did you by any chance say something "inappropriate"  to Ashley when talking to her?

I can't think of any other possible expalantion as to how this happened to you. I hate to say, but you must have screwed up with something without you realizing it at some point.

I always 'paragon-ed' Ashley and when I talk to Liara I always say Ash is special. Sometimes I decide to romance Liara as well for the funny cut-scene halfway through the game, where you have to pick one of the girls for the final romance. This playthrough however, I didn't. Like I said, I didn't even talk to Liara after recruiting her.

So far, it always worked perfectly fine for me when I wanted to romance Ash. I never had any trouble with it and her sister always mentioned Shepard through the intercom. This is the first time she mentioned Kaiden instead of Shepard, while I didn't do anything different then I normally do!?!?

Like I said, I wish I could think of another explanation for this. If Ashley's sister mentions Kaidan's name through the intercom, then that means Ash already has something going on with Kaidan and is not interested in you. This, however, happens if and only if you messed up while talking to Ashley during any of your first several conversations with her.

Yes, I understand you always paragoned her, but given the fact that Kaidan's name was mentioned instead of yours, that's unlikely to be entirely true. Sorry, man.

She does call Shepard "Skipper" and she does say she looks forward to our next conversation ("Looking forward to it Skipper").

Maybe that sister-mentioning-Kaiden thing was just a bug? We'll see once the Normandy gets grounded.

As a matter of fact, she will call you that even if you are a female -- which is a bit ironic. I used to be under the impression that if Ashley calls me skipper then that's a surefire way to end up romancing her, until I played as a female and realized she calls you that no matter what. You just need to have a certain number of conversations with her before she starts calling you 'skipper'.

Which is ironic since I only had 3 convo's with her so far (and only 1 with Liara now).

I'm honestly unsure what's going on in your situation. I guess you'll just have to proceed as if nothing happened and see how it all plays out. Something tells me you may end up getting the confrontation scene where both Ashley and Liara come to you and explicitly ask you to choose one of them as your love interest. Otherwise, it's possible that you do end up romancing Ashley after all -- provided that you do not sacrifice her on Virmire. Possible, but VERY unlikely.

You where right, somehow I (or a bug or whatever) did screw up. I finally ended up romancing Liara instead of Ashley. 0_o

Ahh well, I want a lvl60 character for ME2 import, so I was going to play a game+ on ME1 with this character anyway. Hopefully I'll do it right this time!

LOL! Told you.

I hardly think it's a bug, though. This is a perfectly normal event. It's merely the result of your previous conversations with Ashley and -- to a lesser extent -- Liara. Next time just be more careful when picking your dialogue options and you'll be fine.

Well to be quite honest I just picked-up blindly all Paragon dialogue options when talking to Ash, EXCEPT when she asked about Liara, at that moment I picked the Renegade dialogue option ("We'll keep an eye on her.").

It's what I always do and it always works, but somehow not this time. Maybe I did do something different than usual without realizing it.

Damn, I’m 63 and it looks like I’ve missed out on something
in life and I thought I did it all.

I don’t believe I’ve ever paragoned a girl before! Oh well….too late now. lol

Well, if that be the case I just paragoned Ashely twice! However, I don't really know how well she enjoyed it,
but when I was finished I sat back, had a cigarette and another V.O. on the rocks. Hmmm...I don't know, but I really don't think that "paragoning" a girl is all that it may be cracked up to be. The best part was the drink afterwards and that's not just quite right.

Anyway, on this second time around with ME1 I'm finally taking the time to do other missions/assignments on other planets which I did not do the first time around. I never realized that you could go to the earth's moon and kick some alien ass off of it! Does that mean I "renegaded" them? Either way, that was much more satisfying than "paragoning" a girl!
If ME2 is anyhthing like ME1, or better, I'm really looking forward to it. And oh, by the way, in ME2 do I get another opportunity to "paragone" another girl? I just want to make sure I have that drink on hand if it should by chance come along. lol

I haven't started ME2 yet, but from what I hear, ME2 has much greater emphasis on the 'shooter' side, and less on the 'equipment and levelling' side. It's still a fantastic story with great characters though.

And yes, you can "paragone" lots more girls in ME2. :P 4, to be exact.

Sounds great. I've been spending a couple of days doing all of the other side planetary missions this time before I go to Ilos as once I go there I'll not be able to do them. I most definitely plan on playing it again but it's about time to hit ME2 and see what shakes. I think the thing I hate most in starting a new game is getting use to the controls all over again. That in and of itself takes a wee bit of time and until you get it so that it becomes second nature you just seem to fumble around. Well, that and the multitude of different inputs for each button/pad/stick. Damn kids seem to pick it all up so fast and easily! lol What really gets me ticked off is when a developer produces a second or third game of the same name and completely turns all the controls around. At least try to keep some basic semblence of the previous game controls.
