You also get a special trap from his body. You set it and anyone who walks into it gets a giant bowl dropped on them!Witcha wrote...
Probably came from the new armored Ogre seen in the Disciples teaser. He'll also have a giant spoon for dual wielders.

Amusing. There must be some pretty hefty enchantments on this giant carving fork to allow it to defy the laws of physics. Then again, this isn't the only weapon in the game that would only work in a "fantasy". It's just one of the most over the top ones. Personally, I prefer weapon designs that work outside of fantasy too. If I were to show a pic of this thing to my sword teacher he'd laugh at me for days. To each their own I suppose.

Keep in mind that in our own history, there have been some pretty absurd-looking weapons made. Now add in the fantasy setting with creatures and situations we've never faced. Then consider that the weapon could very well have been created by some of those creatures. It could have been made that way for an intimidation factor, it could have been made to function as a mancatcher-style weapon as well as a sword.
Or maybe someone at Bioware just thought a sword with a split blade sounded cool.

Absurd-looking weapons were certainly made, but they didn't catch on for one very good reason. They didn't work. Take this design for example. It has three major problems:
1) It's badly balanced and has too much weight in the front. Assuming you had the super-human strength to even lift such a blade (and I'll give you that our fantasy warrior warden does), when a sword has too much weight in the front it's impossible to interrupt your strike once you start your swing. If your opponent side-steps or parries your strike then you're toast. You can't possibly recover in time to stop them from skewering you with a more practical blade if they're even remotely close to you in skill.
2) Blades are straight for several very good reasons. One of them is that it makes it far less likely they'll snap when placed under stress. Thus this blade has weak points that regular blades don't have.
3) Except in a vertical overhand strike, the 2nd blade adds nothing to the force of the strike. Conversely in an underhanded or sideward strike it will actually slow your strike and thus rob you of power.
And since you brought up the idea of a fantasy creatures. What fantasy creature would this be more effective against than a regular sized blade of equal length? Name one.
There are thus very good reasons why double-bladed weapons never caught on in the real world and why people who know a thing or two about weapons tend to find them about as ridiculous as someone who doesn't know anything about weapons might find a pillow.
Or maybe someone at Bioware just thought a sword with a split blade sounded cool.
I think you hit the nail on the head here.

I wasn't saying the weapon would be more effective in human hands against fantasy creatures, I was leading toward it being creature BY those creatures.

Anyway I'm fine with it, more variety is always good.
On a related topic the weapon Justice uses in his trailer... some sort of Morning Star, now that looks freakin badass!! I think it's called the Skull Crusher?

I really dislike this sword and the mace Justice used (well, I also hate the black armor he is caring). So far I am utterly unimpressed by the new "style" Awakening introduced. I hope there will be enough quality equipment that I really can ignore this ugly JRPG/kids stuff.

I'm not particularly fond of two pronged swords. The way this one is made kinda rubs me the wrong way. The blade's head is larger than the lower part and the prongs go half way. Just my opinion but the design confuses me, aesthetically. Is it for smashin, slashin, stabbin?
I like stuff like Yusaris where it is a simply but VERY intimidating design.
I personally think the sword is really cool, and I can't wait to get it.
But I agree, Yusaris is the coolest looking sword in Origins imo.
