I always thought that Thane's illness (and thus inevitable death) lent him a depth of character that wouldn't be there otherwise, and gives a great opportunity for a super dramatic self sacrificing death scene in ME3. But hey, what do I know.

offtopic: Agree. But seems like every topic on forums ends with this whole "romance" thing :)

Just a note, all of this is speculation on a twitter post, this is not any kind of fact

So on Christina Norman's Twitter (Lead ME2 Gameplay Designer for BioWare) She mentions that she "played a DLC mission at work that she thinks will make femshep players very, very, happy! :) "

I interpret this as, (here's the speculative jump) as there will be a DLC coming that we will get to find a cure for Thane's Kepral's Syndrome. Anyone else think this?
If not that, what else could it possibly be?

Could be that Fem!Shep's one true love, the Consort asks you to return to Citadel for a tearful reunion.

Sure why not,  I still need to smack her for forcing herself on me.

Heh. You figured you'd get something else for saying "Um...is that it?"

I was a bit surprised too, myself, when that first happened to me. But then I figured "What the hell, she's the Consort, and Shepard must think any other favors he/she is going to get is sex, since he/she accepts it like it's what he/she wanted." Even if the whole event felt forced.

That aside, this announcement could be about a larger DLC pack, and this Ms. Norman played a segment that, in her own personal opinion, would make FemShep players happy. Since it's likely her own opinion, that opinion could cover a wide variety of topics - some of which might be on a meta-gaming level (i.e. DLC features some select dialogue options that a FemShep player might use to insinuate something to fit their liking), the "very, very" adjective notwithstanding. Not only that, but it says nothing about female players; just players who play as FemShep. People have pointed this out, ignored this entirely, or assumed it meant one thing (female players) or the other (anyone who roleplays FemShep) as it suited them, without bothering to debate their assumption. Settle on one thing, people - because Ms. Norman did. You're only confusing yourselves (and me).

Furthermore, I think all the people in this thread arguing that it means "female gamers" exclusively are being unrealistic. Anything that is done for fans is goingto be meant for fans in general, and not fans of one gender. Hence my comment that the DLC might, in fact, consider something that is actually geared towards anyone and has nothing to do with love interests, and something small like a dialogue option caught Ms. Norman's eye that she felt would make FemShep players happy). Though it could of course mean a cure for Thane, assuming that FemShep players woud like it more (since he's a possible love interest). Rehashing a lot of ground already covered here, but I think it bears repeating.

My guess, though, is that it has nothing to do with love interests, though that would most certainly be nice. As the lead gameplay designer, her comments are probably coded exactly to confuse (and frustrate) fans, so they could very well be indicating something that is entirely not what people are speculating it is. Prepare yourselves for disappointment.

Edit: Annoying. This forum refused to submit my post, so I had to start over from scratch.

i know this would make people upset, but I was hoping that they might let thane die, inorder to make room in me3 for a new character, and also mainly to keep the idea of romancing him in me2 still allabout doing it even though you know the outcome. it kinda takes away the weight if he's going to be okay.

I don't know where everyone assumes it is Thane. It could be the famous Garrus wedding scene!!!

Oh crap. In my "perfect" run through I deliberately romanced Thane because I thought he would die before ME 3! Terrible, I know, but I wanted to romance someone new in ME 3.

i would enjoy the game more if one of my SHEPs had 1 kind of relationship and another one of my sheps had a uniquely different relationship.

Um, okay? So have them romance different characters. Problem solved.

Then don't cure him.

Wait, did I just suggest that??  :{

Tbh, it may be more likely that Donnelly will be restored as the npc romantic fling for FShep players.  Buuuut, I would love to cure Thane, and Javier has had a knack of being right in the past . . .

Maybe it's for some pretty new outfits for femShep. I know that sounds terribly shallow, but I frequent her "closet" for new outfits and the pickins are slim!

Am I the only one hoping to bring all my sweaty men into the showers after they got dirty during missions? There are lots of showers on the Normandy, we should get to use those!

Heh, he sure was right about the press being either under an embargo about the Hammerhead, or just too stupid to find it on the Normandy. Sure enough for him and his fanboys to keep insulting everyone who had already guessed it had been DLC'd. Image IPB

There's no other difference between Male and Female Shepard except VA, romances, and hairstyles.

Eurgh, the last thing this game needs is digital showering scenes. The dry humping was bad enough.

So if it is a cure for Thane, how are they going to integrate it into ME2? They would have to place it somewhere at the end of the game or they will have to rewrite a lot of dialogue and scenes in Thane's story. Can't tell his son Thane is dying if you just cured him, nor will his general dialogue when you visit him in a romantic state make sense anymore etc etc etc. Seems cruel to me to cure Thane right before taking him through the relay on a suicide mission ;) But maybe Bioware has a plan for it, no idea. If so, grats to the Thane fans! :)

This could really mean anything. I'm all for curing Thane, but this is jumping to some serious conclusions.

Leads me to believe that if we're able to completely cure Thane, it's going to a mission after the suicide mission. Otherwise, Thane's dialogue would have to change...and probably wouldn't be so poignant.

Post-Suicide mission. Bioware has already stated they plan to release large story DLC packs to bridge ME2 and ME3. If this is indeed a cure for Thane this might be the first step toward that, being one mission of a larger pack.

Thane needs to die of a disease. It's what's shaped his character.

Hopefully so, would love to see them start releasing the post-suicide mission DLCs :) (*crosses fingers for Virmire survivor DLC in the future*)

Oh no, please don't, leave at least this one thing Shepard can't do. Think of how awesome this is: Commander Shepard, Hero of the Citadel, Savior of the Galaxy... But she/he can't dance. XD

@Goat_Shepard : Yes, but that would make every Shepard happy, not just players that created female Shepard. Imho the only thing that female Shepard needs is just fixing the way she walks/stopping the way she behaves at the bar. But this is a minor improvement, maybe a waste of time for scripting which would be used for fixing bugs, I'm waiting for the missions, anyhow there's no topic in these forums that doesn't involve romance of digress from the primary subject to romances.

Exactly, it's part of the story.
