because thats the only options for him Cerberus only recruits the best to begin with Jacob wcouldent be sent on the mission if he wasent apprently Good so he can either go down or up i think its a pretty safe assumption that Samara was just trying to sound Cryptic and mystical.Weskerr wrote...

I never understood why Samara says "Events will either forge him into a great man or utterly destroy him."
Where the hell did you get that idea, Samara?
It's just strange because what has Jacob done or said that would make Samara even consider that he has the potential to be great? True, events utterly destroyed his father, but there was nothing great about him either.
Look at everyone else
Thane master assasin
Garrius and his crazy ass stunt on Omega
Mordin super genious
Miranda Genetic wonder child
Jack One of the most powerful biotics known
Samara crazy ass justicar
Tali Expert Quarian scientist great with tech
Legion most advanced geth platform currently known
Mr Massani Guy survived a bullet to the face
Grunt genetic super korgan
when you compare jacob too these guys hes pretty lame sounding but i think the point is that hes meant to be on par with them =/

For all intents and purposes he wasn't that bad, perhaps his issues with his father could have been elaborated and worked upon to make a slightly edgier individual. But i liked him.

Sadly, yes... Otherwise I rather liked him as a friend to my male Shepard. Same Alliance military background, a human perspective... He's the only character that isn't "looking up" to Shepard. He shows more self-confidence than the others and isn't fooling himself.NICKjnp wrote...
because he and Grunt are basically the same except that grunt's armor and health are twice as poweful.
That said, I had him dusting the weapons locker for nearly all the missions...

Well, he did save the Council from the Batarains that one time. Physically, it was single-handed with Miranda assisting with intel and all of that. And he was an Alliance Corsair... the game doesn't elaborate on the qualifications membership neccesitates, nor the prestige it brings, but i'm assuming its a somewhere around N7 level.Zemore wrote...

You can also see him headshot that one mech rather easily.
I think if they had just made him former N7 it would've done a lot for his character.

I could see him as a decent friend/drinking buddy character, but Garrus already has the best friend role covered for me.

Bioware gives us a well adjusted honorable character who is a perfect fit for the canon Shepards crew and it seems everyone hates him. Why?

Thrilling stuff...*yawn*.
Not saying he needs to be a drama queen but SOME type of back story would be more interesting. I mean even Zaeed has some tales about his past to share.
And his reaction to FemShep is disgusting.
He's powers are decent when I'm playing an infiltrator, but seem limited compared to Thane or Miranda.

I also hated Miranda for the same reasons. Both characters show up and immediately start ordering you around and neither ever makes the slightest effort to gain your trust. The other new characters refrained from loudly arguing with you about every decision every thirty minutes and by that alone become far more tolerable.
Hell, neither the lawful good/obsessive justicar or the battlemaster krogan who practically runs his entire planet try to tell you want to do as much as they do.
Also, everything Jacob does gameplay-wise is done better by other characters.

Still, I'd quite like to see him back in ME3, if not as a party member - he's still got plenty of room for development, for one thing. I have to assume he has hidden depths, since he doesn't have much in the way of visible shallows. He's most interesting in ME2 when he acts as a foil to Miranda. Maybe ME3 could put him in a position where he isn't just following orders, has a chance to show some initiative...

Also anyone think they should have switched the renegade and neutral option with his father. I always let the hunters have their way with him personally.
