I am playing through Origins again now as a Rogue. I am going to play Awakening with my Mage first, but I plan to go back and play as my current Rogue.

I like my Ranger specialization despite what anyone says. Sometimes an extra party member is extremely handy.

I trying to decide between Bard, Assassin, or Duelist for my second specialization. Leliana's Bard attributes had their advantages when I played through as a Mage. I am wondering if I should benefit my group by using those attributes... or if I am probably better off with something more deadly.

I'm not very backstabby... so I thought I'd lean Duelist. Duelist seems like it would better for a one character at a time sort of thing. I liked my Area of Effect spells from my Mage... but it seems that there is no Rogue equivalent. Bard at least boosts the other characters and has Area of Effect confusion/entrancing.

Maybe I should hold off for both of the two new Awakening specs... I could improve my archery instead as I level up.

My HNF rogue is a bard/duelist. She does pretty well as more of a fighter type. I'm not sure which 3rd spec. I'll give her yet.

Most people who play rogues tend to prefer assassin/duelist. But I've yet to make a character that that would fit.. Soo..

Ranger is speciffically for archers. The summon can help hold off enemies

I'm sticking with Duelist, not sure what my 3rd will be. I picked Assassin/Duelist but preferred the duelist abilities over the assassin ones, so usually my points went Duelist first, assassin if I had leftovers after stealth and lockpicking were maxed. By the end I was parrying and dodging most every attack. As for the new ones, I'm thinking Dump assassination for Legionnaire scout and shadow.

Ill keep playing with my citty elf rougue in Awakening, and I can tell you that my especializations so far are Assassin ( by Zevran ) and Ranger ( By buying book especialization ), and it ahs worked very well for me it's really my adventure style... And I'm hopping to get teh Shadow especialization in Awakwning I was hopping for a especialization like that for rouge, the darkest especialization Rougues had so far was Assassin, but now Shadow seems pretty good ( or bad ).

What do you think is best for taking on major enemies? Were Duelist or Assassin abilities helpful at all for High Dragons/Broodmother... or was bard perhaps. This is my primary concern. Ranger is helping me survive the Fade right now due to the extra party member, nearly done with it.

I've had Leliana as Bard/ranger often, and it works very well, so it'll work well otherway around, aswell. Bard might be good if you use more archery skills than go into melee, and for melee duelist gives more defense while assassin gives offense. My current rogue, dwarf commoner, went with Bard firs (maybe should have taken ranger..) and get that Ranger next when hit lvl 14.

Quite frankly, taking on a dragon isn't a rogue thing... You're better off staying at range with a bow.

Sure you can move around and backstab the dragon, but you're getting pushed back and knocked down all the time, and after that you need healing... And none of the current specializations help you overcome that.

The nice thing I found with my rogue was even without a specializtion for archery, or even without many archery skills I could still stand back and shoot on Flemeth with the right party, or the high dragon and do decent enough damage to not make the fight painful.

Usually Leliana, and Wynne with me at range and Alistair tanking.
