It seems you still need to re-enable the IFF installation when you want to go to the omega 4 relay (if you changed to value to 00 instead of whatever value to enable the story missions after getting Legion) as you get the IFF mission but can't finish it, and are therefore stuck there. Ah well, at least it cuts down on how many hex changes to make.

Ok, the last hex edit to enable the IFF doesn't seem to work (I can't open the save in the editor), any ideas?

Which hex edit? Can you post a screen of the area where you're supposed to edit it from your save file?

I meant that one:
"The 05 that comes after that (and the 04 at the end before 0B) is
essentially saying "Go get the Reaper IFF" even after you already
completed it. Time to change that. Copy and paste this string over 0A
and before 0B:
0A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 06 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00
00 00 02 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 05 00 00 00"

but it turns out it worked after I removed the 05 00 00 00 for some reason.

Make sure the quest log for 'Stop the Collectors' looks fine though.B)

Problem, I was able to hex and get Legion and the CIC map shows everyone else as well, but when I tried to do this part

Step 1: Preventing the IFF from installing

*After the Reaper IFF quest is complete*

It crashes Gibbed's editor, I've tried several times, your example reads

EF 84 0E before the 00 to change, mine reads

E0 84 0C 19 <-- No 01, 02, or 03 I have a 19 and yes is 166 bytes from None.E

Advice?

Can you post a screenshot of the hex? It's rather difficult to make Gibbed Save Editor crash upon changing a value, unless it changes the file size.

Did you do the second part as well (modifying the Stop the Collectors quest)?

This is my save file after getting Legion where Shepard is in the comm room done with the return chat with Miranda and Jacob on what to do with Legion, this file loads fine, it's when I try to do the next step I have the problems.

That's a weird one.

The only way I can see Gibbed crashing on changing that to 00 is if your save file is slightly different (and the real value is located somewhere else) or if you inserted a 00 instead of overwriting the 19 with it.

I haven't been able to duplicate this problem on a different character, so it's difficult to figure out.

A quick note here. I started a NG+ earlier and as soon as I got off the shuttle in Freedoms Progress I saved and exited the game. I opened my save file with Gibbed SE and decided to see if I could get the alternate outfits for Miranda and Jacob. I went to plot>henchmen>flags and checked the box for alternate appearance for both of them. It didn't change their outfits so I didn't think anymore about it. When I got to the Normandy and checked the galaxy map I found that Illium, Haestrom and IFF were revealed on the map. I've got to go out and don't have time to mess with it right now, but this seems like a way to get Legion, Tali, Samara and Thane without having to do any hex editing. There's also a flag for (*squad member name* is revealed) that I'm going to mess with when I get a chance that might do the same thing. It might be possible to tick the flag box and recruit who you want then go back and deselect that same check box to re-enable the early game missions. As I said, I don't have time to check it now, but if anyone wants to try it and give some feedback it'll be appreciated.

Actually, now that I think about it - can you try doing missions (save before/after each one) until the Joker tries to install the Reaper IFF? You might be able to edit it right before that.

Sounds good. I'll check it out when I get the chance.

Does checking the box make the game think that Miranda or Jacob's loyalty mission is already done, though?

No it doesn't. As a matter of fact, that was what prompted me to run to the map. I had gone to talk to Miranda and she immediately started talking about her loyalty mission. I ran over and checked the galaxy map and the locations were unlocked. I'm going to mess around with this some more in the morning. I think that just ticking the, for example (<Tali> is revealed) box, might be enough to get it unlocked. If that works and (big) if it resets after unchecking the box, then it should be a good work around.

Okay so I plan on recruiting legion right after I get the normandy...but here is my question, how does changing the natural order of missions effect alerts from the illusive man, although this is a willing sacrifice I am curious as too what the effect on those alerts are. Ecael

Post a step-by-step list when you can. I'm getting kind of confused as to which boxes to check and when.:pinched:

Here's what I've got so far:

I initially checked the boxes for Miranda and Jacob alternate appearance as soon as I got to Freedoms Progress. I was hoping to get them in their loyalty outfits but it didn't work. As soon as I got on the Normandy I went to talk to Miranda and she started giving me her loyalty mission. I checked the galaxy map and Illium, Haestrom and IFF were unlocked. I'm pretty sure but not certain that I also had the dossiers for Tali, Samara and Thane in the journal.

I wasn't planning on messing with it too much since I intended this game to be an ME3 prep save. So I reloaded an earlier save and redid Freedoms Progress.

What I've done since I posted here is to start another NG+ and complete FP. I recruited Mordin and Zaeed. I did the Zaeed loyalty mission and saved. I then used GSE to check the box for '(Tali) is revealed'. I loaded the save and checked the galaxy map hoping that Haestrom would be unlocked but no joy. I went back and unchecked that box and checked 'Miranda alternate appearance' instead, but not Jacob's box for same. This time Illium and Haestrom were unlocked, but not the IFF. I talked to Kelly and she gave me the "what you did on Horizon was amazing" dialogue. I did not have the dossiers for Tali, Samara or Thane this time.

I went back and edited it again and unchecked the 'Miranda alternate appearance' box. I loaded the save and the galaxy map was reset. No Illium or Haestrom. I'm not sure yet whether or not the game still thinks that I've completed Horizon because I had to stop for the night.

In the descriptions listed above, those were the only boxes I check marked in each instance. I didn't mess with anything else because I was trying to isolate the effect that each individual choice would have.

That's where things stand at the moment. If you check both Miranda and Jacob alternate appearance boxes you'll get Illium, Haestrom and IFF. If you only check Miranda alternate appearance box it won't unlock IFF but the other two are good to go. Checking the '(character name) is revealed' box doesn't unlock the location on the galaxy map. There's stiil a lot of different variations left to try when I get some more time.

EDIT: Just to make it clearer.

1) Put check mark in Miranda alternate appearance box only = Illium and Haestrom on galaxy map.

2) Put check mark in both Miranda and Jacob alt appearance boxes = Illium, Haestrom and IFF on galaxy map.

3) Putting a check mark in '(character name) is revealed' box does not put their location on galaxy map. This was just an idea that I had, but it didn't pan out.

Here's some verification on what the Miranda alt appearance box does.

After I had checked that box and loaded my save the galaxy map showed Illium and Haestrom, but not IFF. I didn't recruit anyone and simply unchecked the box and the galaxy map reverted to normal. I played through normally and completed Horizon. I talked to Miranda and Jacob for their loyalty mission, saved and exited the game. I opened the save file with GSE and the Miranda alt appearance box was now checked off by the game. The box for Jacob alt appearance was still unchecked. That tells me that checking both boxes (Miranda and Jacob alt appearance) after FP will indeed unlock all three locations. This seems like an easier way to get all squadmates early without having to use a hex editor.

So basically what I have here is that just putting a check mark in the Miranda alt appearance box will unlock Illium and Haestrom. I'm going to start another game and enable the Miranda alt appearance after FP. Then I'll recruit Tali, Samara and Thane. I'll go back and edit the save file and uncheck the Miranda alt appearance box. This should theoretically get me back to normal so that I can get the Horizon mission.

If this works I'll try it with both Miranda and Jacob alt appearance checked and grab Legion. Then I'll uncheck Jacob's box and see if that locks the IFF location again. Then I'll recruit Tali, Samara and Thane. I'll uncheck Miranda's alt appearance box and see if that gets me back to normal progression through the game. If that all works then we should be good to go with all team mates.

This will take me a bit of time to do, so if anyone wants to jump in and try it out we can get some verification from other players. I'll come back and update my post when I've finished testing this stuff.

Finally got around to checking this (was burnt out from playing for a while). I did the checks (Just Miranda, Just Jacob and then both Miranda and Jacob). Each one will change the first digit that unlocks something in the guide as well as change the very last 4 blocks at the end of the file (after where the text string says Zaeed).

Original value: 00 (30 hex blocks from None., 48 in decimal)
Original end string: 24 2E 64 06

Miranda check only: 00 -> 01 (Step 3: Enabling the Collector Vessel)
End string: F0 5C 28 8C

Jacob check only: 00 -> 02 (Step 2: Enabling Horizon)
End string: 3B D6 3D 16

Miranda and Jacob: 00 -> 03 (Before Step 1 - Enabling Everything)
End string: EF A4 71 9C

I have no idea what that other part does, so I'll just assume it enables their alternate appearance. It seems that Gibbed had a much more efficient way to enable everything, but stumbled upon it accidentally when trying to perma-enable Miranda and Jacob's alternate suits. He hasn't updated from Revision 25 (I think), so I'm not even sure if he's going to continue adding this option, much less all the others left blank in the editor.

Once I figure out what those last four blocks do (whether it's harmless or not), I can update the guide and make it much easier. However, there may be two complications that I can think of:

-Recruiting Legion may still enable the IFF installation and mess up the Stop the Collectors questline (so that still needs to be hexed out, unless there's another method)
-It *might* disable Miranda and Jacob's loyalty quests at the same time if it's done before Horizon

I need to do another playthrough for this... hopefully more people can chime in with this simple experiment with the Saved Game Editor.

sunnyfunny wrote...

I'm trying to figure out a way to make this a little... simpler...

Well I finally got around to figuring this stuff out. I was extremely busy for a few days and this was the first chance that came up. I'm going to give as much detail as I can remember, but be advised that it all seems to work at this point and we should be clear to proceed from here on.

I started a NG+ and played through Freedoms Progress. As soon as I got on the Normandy I saved and exited the game. I used GSE to grab Legion:

Put a check in these two boxes only. 'Legion acquired' (x), 'Legion is selectable' (x).

I then played all the way through the game normally, suicide mission included, using Legion in almost all of the missions. I didn't bring him to the Reaper IFF mission, but just about all of the rest. Everything worked fine and I determined that this will not screw up the game. All of the main missions progressed sequentially in the right order and nothing else was affected. I even did his loyalty mission early in the game without any mishaps. So if you want to have Legion available for the whole game after FP, that's all you need to do.

To play through the game with all of the characters recruited and all of the missions progressing normally do this:

After Freedoms Progress save and exit the game. Open your save with GSE and put a check in these boxes only:

'Miranda in alternate appearance' (x)
'Legion acquired' (x)
'Legion is selectable' (x)

This will give you Legion and unlock Illium and Haestrom.

This is what I did once I was back in the game. I went to Omega and got Zaeed and Mordin. I wanted some upgrades for the rest of the recruitment missions. I avoided talking to Miranda and Jacob because they'll want to give you their loyalty mission dialogue. I then went to Illium and avoided all sidequest characters like Shiala, Parasini, Conrad, etc,.. I talked to Liara and got the Thane info only. I had decided not to do the Samara recruit mission. I wanted to make sure that it would still be available after Horizon. I did the Thane recruit mission. I then went to Haestrom and got Tali. As you run around doing the recruit missions other characters will want to talk to you about their loyalty missions. I avoided those conversations because I wanted to limit the variables that would play into my experiment.

I used Legion on the Thane and Tali recruit missions. I used Thane on the Tali mission. No problems were encountered and there was some fresh dialogue for me to enjoy. There's a nice little paragon interrupt with Tali and Legion on her mission. Anyway, once I had Tali and Thane, I saved and exited the game. I opened my save with GSE and unchecked the box for 'Miranda in alternate appearance' ( ). The galaxy map was reset to normal and I then did the regular recruitment routine. I got Jack, Grunt and Garrus. The Horizon mission came up the way it usually does and I took Tali and Miranda with me for that. After Horizon I went to Illium and got the Samara recruitment mission from Liara as usual. So everything seems to be working and it only requires having the Gibbed save editor and checking/unchecking the right boxes.

A couple of things to note. Tali seems to be the only one of the late recruits that has any dialogue on Horizon. I believe it is possible to accept the various loyalty missions without screwing anything up, but I didn't want to chance it for my experimental run through the game.

If there's anything that isn't clear or you need me to provide more specific details, then by all means reply to this post with whatever questions you have.

Regards - Io

Posted Image

EDIT: This is my team just before I went to Horizon. I left Grunt in his tank because I was in a hurry and didn't want to bother with him at the time. I left Samara on Illium to recruit her after Horizon just to make sure that it would work correctly.

2nd EDIT: Easy to follow instructions.

If you want to play the game with all of the squad members you need to do this.

1) Play through the beginning of the game until you finish Freedoms Progress mission.

2) Once you're on the Normandy, save and exit the game. Use the Mass Effect 2 Gibbed Save Editor to open your save file.  Navigate the tabs to Plot >Henchmen >Flags and put a check mark in the following boxes -

'Miranda in alternate appearance' (x)
'Legion acquired' (x)
'Legion is selectable' (x)

3) Save the file and close GSE. Start the game and load the save you just edited. Check your terminal and look at the squad screen. You should have Legion available for your squad. Check the galaxy map and you should see Illium and Haestrom available.

4) Recruit Tali, Thane and Samara in whatever order you prefer. Don't bother with any of the side quests in Illium while you're there. You can always come back for that stuff after Horizon. Also try to avoid any loyalty mission request dialogues until after you finish recruiting these three. I don't think it will screw anything up, but I haven't tested it to make sure.

5) Once you've got whatever squad members you want recruited, save and exit the game.

6) Open your save file with GSE again and navigate back to the Plot >Henchmen >Flags tab. Uncheck this box -

'Miranda in alternate appearance' ( )

7) Start your game and load the save file you just edited. The galaxy map should be reset to normal without Illium or Haestrom visible. They'll reappear after you do Horizon. You can now accept all of the loyalty mission requests as you play and that'll put Tuchanka on the map for you as it would normally occur.

8) Play the game normally and continue recruiting Jack, Garrus, Mordin, Zaeed and Grunt. You'll be able to play through the game without having to do any more save file editing. Horizon, Collector Ship and the Reaper IFF missions will occur naturally and you get to take whoever you want with you. Just remember that Legion, Thane and Samara do not have any dialogue on Horizon.

This is what I've done and it worked for me without a hitch.

I keep running into a "Sanity Check" error when I try to open my hex save with Gibbed's save game editor. I try to ignore it, and then the save game editor jsut displays as a blank template (John Shepard, Level 1, etc, etc, as opposed to displaying information from the save game I'm trying to open). Dunno what's going on...?

Make sure you're overwriting the hex block and not just inserting numbers in (toggle using the Insert key). If you insert numbers, it shifts the rest of the file forward and basically corrupts the file.
