I do so very want to go throug hthe game with Legion being one of my first recruits to see all of the hidden diolague, but do not know if I would be able to do this and be sucessful. Some questions I do have if this will also interfere with the other saved game files or just this one I will be using.

I don't have any programming skills at all either, so stumbling upon this was basically trial and error for me.MrBoomba wrote...
I personally have no programming skill at all so I look at this and am just dumbfounded... I'm curious if it is actually easier than made to seem. Or if somebody with as little computer skills as me actually has done this and managed to get it work.

Once you're familiar with a simple hex editor, though, it's fairly easy to make all these modifications as if you were looking at a text file.
I'm going to update the post a little later to make the process much simpler (thanks to IoCaster). Then you can give a shot on a new character -- it might add some replay value!

UPDATE (4/26): It's a been a long time since I've updated this -- the replies past the 2nd post may be outdated. However, modding the save file for this is now much easier to do (thanks to IoCaster's help). Also, I don't have an XBox, but now that save files are moddable on the console this MAY be possible on both platforms.

Be careful, though, since recruiting Legion early requires some hex editing.Ieldra2 wrote...
This gets my vote as the most useful thread on this forum! I always wanted more time to talk with Legion, and to take him with me on a few other missions. Many thanks!

The Reaper IFF mission early on is fun on Insanity when you don't have any abilities to deal with the enemies.Piddlestick wrote...
Fantastic stuff. I'm surprised at the amount of dialogue these squad mates have, even before Horizon. Their recruitment missions (on insanity) are really challenging too, especially when you're just fresh off the Normandy which no gear or skills to talk about.

So, would it be possible to, say add an assault rifle in Jacob Arsenal with this hex editor... ? If so... How would one do this... ?

Through hex editing? I'm not sure, but the answer might lie somewhere in the XBox 360 save file editing thread or the "Modding is possible" thread in the other forum.Nostradamoose wrote...

I tried giving Grunt a M-920 Cain, but it just didn't work.

Is it possible to recruit every party member before Horizon (except Legion), then play Horizon, Collector Ship, IFF, Legion's loyalty, and Suicide Mission in that order, without the hex editor? (I don't think I can use that program for 360 saves)

I haven't really looked through this thread much, but I have a question, and all I need is a yes or no answer.

Also, I've looked at the XBox 360 save files with a hex editor, and they are very similar. However, the area that you hex edit to enable/disable the IFF installation is slightly different between console and PC.
It might require some tinkering to do that on an XBox save file, so I still think it's possible (if I had an XBox, anyway).

True, but it's kind of weird to be able to bring Legion to see Legion.GuardianAngel470 wrote...
You can check the "Legion Acquired" box and have him the entire game without messing up the storyline. I just finished playing a game with legion in my party the whole time, even on the IFF mission. All I did was follow the OP's instructions and check both Jacob's and Miranda's Alt appearance boxes which unlocked the IFF, and play.
I never even downloaded the hex editor.

Then don't take him. I love legion, and with the hacked Coalesced.ini file I downloaded he has the Widow and the Revenant from beginning to end. Same with Garrus. That is my dream team, me being an infiltrator.
Before you say that's cheating know that I beat ME2 7 times on console without hacks, so I think I'm entitled to a little fun.

Well, it's a single-player game, so feel free to enjoy the game however you wish. Legion has good hidden dialogue and is worth having around regardless of how you recruit him.GuardianAngel470 wrote...

I think changing the title of the thread may be giving the wrong impression - my essential goal was to enable all the recruitment missions at the beginning of the game, to make it feel much more open-ended than it normally is.

I thought it was funny that I unlocked the galaxy map right after Freedom's Progress, then the two guys by the cockpit were talking about how the Collectors were Protheans.

The game assumes that you finished half the Collector missions, so it hands you all the recruitment missions at once.

I took Samara and Thane to Horizon. Both of them have ZERO dialogue that triggers. They even break you out of dialogue when they are supposed to interject. When you touch the husk body, weirdness (fires off a random combat speech sound and they do the funky animation reset).
When you touch the frozen colonist, silence. When you interrogate the hiding colonist at the weapons locker their lack of dialogue breaks you out of the conversation prematurely.
Worse, at the culminating battle, after facing rounds of collectors, harbingers and husks. EDI gives a speech about starting up the big guns.... and the Praetorean never spawns. I ran around and around and nothing happened. I replayed the last battle three times, he would not spawn.
I'm about to restart the whole Horizon mission with traditional party members to see if I've hosed this playthrough or if its specifically related to taking unintentional party members to the horizon party.

Then I redid Horizon once again, with Thane and Samara, to test if I just screwed something else up. Again they're completely silent and again, when EDI says the guns are at 60% and the Praetorean is supposed to spawn, nothing happens. You just run around waiting for the two stunned mullets to speak and you're stuck...
Moral of the story, don't take Thane and Samara to Horizon.

Tali has full dialogue for that mission, so as long as you bring Legion, Thane, or Samara it won't glitch - however, the other squadmate you chose will be talking to themselves as both sides of their dialogue will play.

I've been trying to do the hex edit thing, but when I search for None.É, the editor just pops up a "Can't find None.É" message. I've loaded most of my saves (both modified in the Gibbed editor and unmodified) and searched for it, and got the same result each time.
Either I'm doing something horribly wrong, or None.É just doesn't exist in any of my saves... O_o
