Horizon has a few dialogue triggers, if neither of your party members have dialogue (Thane, Samara and Legion) you will get weird glitches. One in particular prevents the mission from ending.
At the final battle when EDI says the guns are at 60% charged, your squad mates are supposed to say their version of "more incoming!..." and the cinematic for the praetorian arriving is triggered.
If neither of your squad mates have that 'more incoming' line at that point (Thane, Samara and Legion), the cinematic doesn't fire, and the praetorian doesn't show up... so you just sit there in the final square.
You just have to take one squad mate with dialogue for Horizon to avoid this bug.
You should also avoid completing both Jack and Miranda's loyalty missions before finishing the damaged collector vessel mission (where you pick up your bonus weapon).

I can't help myself, but it's been bothering me since release - damn the Xbox's limited capability, it severely crippled the freedom of the game... BioWare, do not this for Mass Effect 3!

Yes, it is necessary for the plot to continue, but you may do so whenever you want.Burdokva wrote...
Out of curiosity - do I have to to check/uncheck Jacob and Miranda's alternate appearance for the Collector plot-line missions to trigger, or is it used for convenience (to enable them at my own will)? Thanks!
Just don't do Jack and Miranda's loyalty missions until after Horizon, as mentioned previously.

Is that after recruiting Legion or just after enabling the whole galaxy?NICKjnp wrote...
Just so you know... the 360 version of doing this gets the crew abducted at the beginning of the game if you have a certain amount of crew.

As Escael said, I immediately got the dialogue for the loyalty missions and the ntire map unlocked, and I traveled to Haestrom to get Tali (as I know she was supposed to be an early addition to the crew). After that I tried "locking" the game with Gibbed again (leaving only "Tali is announced" checked, to avoid crashing, as I'm still in orbit over Haelstrom), and surprise - loyalty mission dialogue can still trigger after getting the characters, story planets are still available, but the main plot structure/dialogue sequences work as intended.
Essentially, I can now go anywhere on the hub worlds (except on the random N7 missions, which still need to be discovered), without the need to edit another save for the Collectors missions sequence to trigger later on.
Again, big thanks to Escael for figuring out this tweak! Mass Effect 2 feels much better, and honestly, more like "as intended" than it's original release version.

The dialogue for Thane, Samara and Legion in all the recruitments say it all - it actually is more as it was intended.Burdokva wrote...
Interesting - I did the initial step of "unlocking" Jacob and Miranda in the Gibbed editor, just after finishing the Purgatory (rescue Jack) mission on an unedited game (Note: this was the first post-Freedoms Progress mission I did).

In the save after Freedom's Progress, things looked like this:

But....in the save immediately after Reaper IFF, things didn't match anymore, so I looked for a string similar to E4 84 0E in the area after the weapons list, and found this:

The block with the 08 after the highlighted area was originally 09, which I changed to 08, assuming this is a trigger bit. This is at an offset of AA after the end of the weapons list.
I think this works, but how can I test it? How can I be sure the Reaper IFF will not be installed? I did two side quests and nothing happened....

(Remember, the IFF doesn't trigger after a mission, it triggers right before you try to do one.)
Also, if it is triggering when you try to land, just ALT+F4/exit - you still have a chance to disable it.

Not that I know of. If you've successfully completed about 3-4 missions without anything triggering, then it's fully disabled until you enable it again.Ieldra2 wrote...

Just save before you land anywhere so you can quickly exit and reload if it does happen to trigger.

If you enable the Collector Ship mission, the 5-mission counter is apparently set to 0 (or rather, it is probably not used at all unless the Collector Ship mission is enabled). Which means, you must complete five missions after enabling the Collector ship mission to get it triggered. It is impossible to trigger it immediately after Horizon even if all conditions are met that would apply in a normal playthrough (for instance, as would if you recruited everyone and played many loyalty missions before Horizon). These five needn't be recruitment or loyalty missions but can also be N7 assignments. The only condition is that they must have a mission end screen and not just end by getting xp like some of the hub assignments.
This also means that you've played yourself into a dead end if you did everything (all recruitments and loyalty missions and all N7 assignments) before Horizon!
Also, I don't know if it's relevant but in my current game the Stop the Collectors mission you need to adjust after recruiting Legion early has an ID of "OC", not "OA". I suspect this is because Zaeed's and Kasumi's recruitment missions are inserted before. You can identify the correct mission by the "05 00 00 00" sequence at the end. Keep an unedited save in case you forget the ID.

Well I finally got around to figuring this stuff out. I was extremely busy for a few days and this was the first chance that came up. I'm going to give as much detail as I can remember, but be advised that it all seems to work at this point and we should be clear to proceed from here on.
I started a NG+ and played through Freedoms Progress. As soon as I got on the Normandy I saved and exited the game. I used GSE to grab Legion:
Put a check in these two boxes only. 'Legion acquired' (x), 'Legion is selectable' (x).
I then played all the way through the game normally, suicide mission included, using Legion in almost all of the missions. I didn't bring him to the Reaper IFF mission, but just about all of the rest. Everything worked fine and I determined that this will not screw up the game. All of the main missions progressed sequentially in the right order and nothing else was affected. I even did his loyalty mission early in the game without any mishaps. So if you want to have Legion available for the whole game after FP, that's all you need to do.
To play through the game with all of the characters recruited and all of the missions progressing normally do this:
After Freedoms Progress save and exit the game. Open your save with GSE and put a check in these boxes only:
'Miranda in alternate appearance' (x)
'Legion acquired' (x)
'Legion is selectable' (x)
This will give you Legion and unlock Illium and Haestrom.
This is what I did once I was back in the game. I went to Omega and got Zaeed and Mordin. I wanted some upgrades for the rest of the recruitment missions. I avoided talking to Miranda and Jacob because they'll want to give you their loyalty mission dialogue. I then went to Illium and avoided all sidequest characters like Shiala, Parasini, Conrad, etc,.. I talked to Liara and got the Thane info only. I had decided not to do the Samara recruit mission. I wanted to make sure that it would still be available after Horizon. I did the Thane recruit mission. I then went to Haestrom and got Tali. As you run around doing the recruit missions other characters will want to talk to you about their loyalty missions. I avoided those conversations because I wanted to limit the variables that would play into my experiment.
I used Legion on the Thane and Tali recruit missions. I used Thane on the Tali mission. No problems were encountered and there was some fresh dialogue for me to enjoy. There's a nice little paragon interrupt with Tali and Legion on her mission. Anyway, once I had Tali and Thane, I saved and exited the game. I opened my save with GSE and unchecked the box for 'Miranda in alternate appearance' ( ). The galaxy map was reset to normal and I then did the regular recruitment routine. I got Jack, Grunt and Garrus. The Horizon mission came up the way it usually does and I took Tali and Miranda with me for that. After Horizon I went to Illium and got the Samara recruitment mission from Liara as usual. So everything seems to be working and it only requires having the Gibbed save editor and checking/unchecking the right boxes.
A couple of things to note. Tali seems to be the only one of the late recruits that has any dialogue on Horizon. I believe it is possible to accept the various loyalty missions without screwing anything up, but I didn't want to chance it for my experimental run through the game.
If there's anything that isn't clear or you need me to provide more specific details, then by all means reply to this post with whatever questions you have.
Regards - Io
EDIT: This is my team just before I went to Horizon. I left Grunt in his tank because I was in a hurry and didn't want to bother with him at the time. I left Samara on Illium to recruit her after Horizon just to make sure that it would work correctly.
2nd EDIT: Easy to follow instructions.
If you want to play the game with all of the squad members you need to do this.
1) Play through the beginning of the game until you finish Freedoms Progress mission.
2) Once you're on the Normandy, save and exit the game. Use the Mass Effect 2 Gibbed Save Editor to open your save file. Navigate the tabs to Plot >Henchmen >Flags and put a check mark in the following boxes -
'Miranda in alternate appearance' (x)
'Legion acquired' (x)
'Legion is selectable' (x)
3) Save the file and close GSE. Start the game and load the save you just edited. Check your terminal and look at the squad screen. You should have Legion available for your squad. Check the galaxy map and you should see Illium and Haestrom available.
4) Recruit Tali, Thane and Samara in whatever order you prefer. Don't bother with any of the side quests in Illium while you're there. You can always come back for that stuff after Horizon. Also try to avoid any loyalty mission request dialogues until after you finish recruiting these three. I don't think it will screw anything up, but I haven't tested it to make sure.
5) Once you've got whatever squad members you want recruited, save and exit the game.
6) Open your save file with GSE again and navigate back to the Plot >Henchmen >Flags tab. Uncheck this box -
'Miranda in alternate appearance' ( )
7) Start your game and load the save file you just edited. The galaxy map should be reset to normal without Illium or Haestrom visible. They'll reappear after you do Horizon. You can now accept all of the loyalty mission requests as you play and that'll put Tuchanka on the map for you as it would normally occur.
8) Play the game normally and continue recruiting Jack, Garrus, Mordin, Zaeed and Grunt. You'll be able to play through the game without having to do any more save file editing. Horizon, Collector Ship and the Reaper IFF missions will occur naturally and you get to take whoever you want with you. Just remember that Legion, Thane and Samara do not have any dialogue on Horizon.
This is what I've done and it worked for me without a hitch.

I don't understand why so many people still bother with the hex editing, IoCaster method that I copied below works wonderfully well . It fully deserve a repost, I tottaly support a Legion from the start game, plenty of hiden dialague.
You can use the Gibbed Save Game Editor get everyone on-board the Normandy at the very start (just check Acquired and all the other boxes relevant to each character). However, it either disables their recruitment mission or in the case of Legion, you end up being able to bring him to the Reaper IFF to meet himself.
Which can make sense I guess, because he's a geth.
The main purpose of the thread was to unlock all the recruitment missions at the beginning of the game, and not just all the characters. Because of the dialogue, we can only speculate that it was the way that BioWare intended it to be before they had to split the disc content on the X-Box 360 console.

If you plan on recruiting Legion early, always recruit him first and make the changes before recruiting Mordin.Antioch0074 wrote...
Can I recruit mordin right away or will that mess up the sequence?
If not recruiting Legion early, then you can do the sequence on your own terms.
Hope that helps.

Ecael, I've done everything according to your guide. But in my journal is still shows "Stop the Collector's" Is it possible the name stays the same you just continue on and hope for the best? Thanks.
I'm pretty sure it always says Stop the Collectors - the list of objectives in that journal entry is what you need to worry about, since that dictates what part of the main plot is triggered.
