Ecael, I've done everything according to your guide. But in my journal is still shows "Stop the Collector's" Is it possible the name stays the same you just continue on and hope for the best? Thanks.

Did you do the hex edit properly? As I mentioned, it may have changed from 0A to 0C if you have the Kasumi DLC.

I'm pretty sure it always says Stop the Collectors - the list of objectives in that journal entry is what you need to worry about, since that dictates what part of the main plot is triggered.

For mine it was 0C where the 05 was located because I do have Kasumi's DLC.  But the Journal states: "The crew has the IFF and is installing it.  As I said, I know I did everything right.  At least I think I know.

Can you post a screenshot of that specific edit you made? If it was edited properly, I believe it should revert back to "Gather your Team" or something similar.

Do you guys also think Bioware limited the recruitment freedom not only because of the Xbox/limited DVD space but also to ensure the suicide mission could be done without crashing the game? (Funnel the minimum amount of followers and such)

It's possible - with DLC and the required recruits, you already have the necessary squadmates to activate the Disabled Collector Vessel.

Maybe originaly they made that until you recruit enough people and you have Reaper IFF your crew get's abducted.
And they made Horizon mission in last second since only there Thane, Samara and Legion don't have dialogue while in first 4 recriutment missions they have.
And later cut out Tali until after Horizon mission since she has dialogue there.

Well, it almost looked like Tali had the option to be recruited after Freedom's Progress...

...maybe Tali's loyalty was originally reclaiming the area on Haestrom? I don't know, all that extra dialogue seems like a waste.

Sorry for being such a twit, but can someone point me to a hex editor that won't make me feel even more insecure? Thanks.

HxD Hex Editor is the simplest one I could find - it's the one I used to edit (and compare) the save files.

Also, there's no need to feel insecure, as most of what I found was just trial and error by comparing save files. I didn't have any experience with hex editing whatsoever before I tried this.

Thanks Ecael.  I was just kidding about being insecure (kind of!).  All the numbers just make my head spin.

So...It seems like I have run into a problem with this.

I wanted to activate the Disabled Collector Ship mission, but now I can no longer open the galaxy map.
Everytime I try to open It, the game shortly fades to black and then shows my character standing in front of the map...

Did I do something wrong?

I have currently in my team:

Jacob
Miranda
Garrus (loyal)
Tali (loyal)
Mordin
Jack
Grunt
Zaeed (loyal)
Kasumi (loyal)

Is this too soon? Do I need to recruit Thane and/or Samara?
I reeaaally do not want to start over... ^^'

EDIT:
Yes...after I got Thane i worked! Problem solved!

After several playthroughs in the "usual" way, I'd like to try this method to hear different NPC comments during the early missions.
But first of all, thank you Ecael, IoCaster & Ieldra2 (and everyone else who helped figure this out) for your research, testing and sharing your results here.

Now, editing seems pretty easy, I already tested it on one save and it worked just fine. However, I noticed one (minor) issue: As we are tricking the game into believing we are post-Horizon, I noticed it (naturally) adds the ME1 LI's eMail to Shepards private terminal. What I don't know (and haven't seen discussed in this thread so far, sorry if I missed it), is, if this eMail will disappear again, once I re-edit a savegame to trigger the Horizon mission. Of course, receiving one single eMail early, is a small tradeoff for the freedom of an unlocked galaxy map, but if I'd know that the eMail disappears (and reappears after Horizon!), I'd just not look at Shep's private terminal for a while.

So, has anyone tested this?

Thanks! :)

I have 8 squadmates but none of them are loyal. How can I enable the Disabled Collector Vessel mission? Do I have to do loyalty missions?

I checked my savefile with the Gibbed Editor and the checkboxes are the same as yours:

You have to do five full missions after Horizon to trigger the Collector Ship mission. A full mission is either a recruitment or loyalty mission or an N7 assignment. Hub assignments don't count. Basically, if it has a mission end screen it counts. DLC missions do *not* count.

I came to this stuff a tad late. The game's really great, but it makes me crazy how it forces you into premature missions, certain characters and incomplete endings.

Amazing that what youve done is even possible, however im stuck at hex editing the IFF mission countdown. The strings of code just dont seem to be there. The journal editing was easy, but i cant find the None.e string anywhere.

I would really appreciate some guidance as ive been scratching my head for a week now.None.E and the E4 84 0E string just doesnt exist...

Its sloppy, that this game constrains you from existing dialog.Sort of remind's me of KOTOR IIs situation.

I had that problem, too. Look at my post on page 8 (the one with the hex-edit screenshots) and the exchange after it to find a possible solution. The sequences aren't always reliable, so it may take some experience with hex editing and pattern perception to figure things out.

Key i think i found None.â(under the weapons list),however i cant seem to find the string you need to change.Whats the value of that string suppose to be and what do i need to change it to.Ive read the whole thread and it contradicts itself in a couple of places.Somewhere it says 03 to 00,other times its 09 to 08.Damn that stupid IFF.

Anyway how do i determine where the value needs to change, counting from None.âJust doesnt seem to add up.

Next time im just gonna gibb Legion early. But im trying to save this play-through.

Also as im trying to understand this whole thread,in order to safeguard against bugs, what does this mean?

Can I recruit mordin right away or will that mess up the sequence?

If you plan on recruiting Legion early, always recruit him first and make the changes before recruiting Mordin.

If not recruiting Legion early, then you can do the sequence on your own terms.

Hope that helps.

Edit:Nevermind,i got it thank you for this great contribution to ME2.Long live PC gaming:wizard:

Was linked to this post after asking the question of unlocking all quests, and getting legion from the start, hence why i am bringing this back from the dead

been having some issues after getting legion, my save file does not seem to have None.E

i've recruited every character first, and then got legion, talked to him, recruited him, and now am waiting for the IFF installation, according to your post, i should have a None.E text, but it is nowhere to be found

any help from anybody would be appreciated, and if needed, i can upload my save file for further investigation

If you're playing on a PC it's a lot easier to use Gibbed Save Editor to unlock the galaxy map and put Legion on the Normandy.
Check this post http://social.biowar...85456/4#2001802 from page 4 of this thread.  It even has a link to Gibbed if you don't already have it.

ya, looks like thats what i will have to do....i wanted to follow the main post at the beginning, that way i would not end up with Legion meeting Legion on the Reaper...

after spilling over every post in this thread for about 3 hours, i've concluded that, well, it may not make sense to have legion meeting legion, its WAY less likely to break your game, as well as easier to deal with if you do happen to do something you wish you didn't

After unlocking the galaxy map, I recruited Kasumi, Thane, Garrus and Jack in that order. Deflagged Miranda's Alt. appearance pack, as instructions say, and it did not trigger Horizon, but Reaper IFF is on the map. Is there another way to trigger Horizon?

You still have to recruit Mordin, Jack, Garrus and Grunt before Horizon will trigger.  I haven't done this in a while but I think the Reaper IFF will remain on the map until you do the mission, and you will contine to have Kelly tell you that your squadmates want to talk to you about their loyalty missions.
