Thane needs to stop talking about his dead wife. It worked with Carth because he eventually moved past it, but even then it was awkward. Again, I just feel like a replacement. Why doesn't Bioware go down the road of people having previously bad relationships or relationships just not working out. Instead it was the greatest relationship ever and he's still mourning her death years and years later. Not to mention that whole photographic memory thing. Fantastic, maybe he can have one of those flashbacks about his wife while Shepard and him are having sex.
Garrus had the most potential, but in the end he was just my friend. Romantic dialogue with him was awkward, the romantic scene at the end was awkward. I felt like the people writing this game really didn't want to put this in. Shepard and Garrus are supposed to be close, but the romance just doesn't work. They are close like a brother and sister, which is fine with me.
So yeah, sticking with Kaidan, who I loved. I just better be able to get him back in ME3. Funny, I had more success in the game where I had one choice than in the game I had three.

As to FemShep romances...?
1. Jacob I shot down as fast as I could because It Was Just Wrong
2. Thane was pretty hot, but his googly eye flashbacks were creepy. Especially if you romance him and he Flashbacks in front of your ME1 LI. That'd be bad.
3. Garrus... Garrus has potential, but unfortunately the writers basically took the LI in ME2 as 'Lets screw' rather than, 'We've been fighting the good fight together, and been through so much and... y'know... I actually really like you.' (Insert Turian finger quotes where appropriate) My FemShep would definitely love to try something real with her Apprentice to the Dark Side, but the way its written its just one 'Wham, Bam, Thank Ye Ma'am' before Omega IV. ;_;

I honestly don't think of it that way. With the cuddling you can have post-Omega, I imagine Garrus and my Shep caring very deeply about each other after the fact.

If Garrus and Shepard are just having a cheap one-night stand, why is he so visibly hurt when you turn him down? He just loves sex that much?

We don't even know what Tali's face looks like. For all we know, you take her to your cabin and get her face mask off and her face looks like Linda Blair from "The Exorcist".
I'd soooo hit that...

Male Shepard has very little choice either.
Miranda takes every avaliable opportunity to show her ass at you. When you talk to her she gets cold if you don't validate her perfection, stroke her ego or try to romance her. Why would I want to romance someone who walks around acting like a super model ho sticking her ****** and ass in everyones face. I won't even go near the whole daddy issues...that is for another discussion.
Jack is damaged goods and I only wanted to be-friend her, but within a couple of conversations you get accused of wanting to have sex with her! Crap if that was real life I would be accused of wanting to have sex with every other male I met. My male shep wants to show her that not everyone is out to use her.....but that just doesn't seem to happen. I avoid talking to her now.
Tali is sweet, but frankly it would be like cradle robbing romancing her. Plus she seems a little to obsessed for my liking....borderline stalking. BTW I love Tali's character, just not the option to romance.
Kelly is basically a booty call.....with the possibly of STD's.
FYI......I am a female gamer!
I kept the option of being faithfull to my ME LI.

See that's where I think that story could be expanded. At this point it is kind of a friends-with-benefits thing, but there's a possibility of more going on. I'm hoping ME3 will give you the option to move it towards something more significant. Or you could just go back to boring ol Kaiden.
Also hoping they don't shortchange the established relationships by adding a ton of other new romance possibilities. Unless they are willing to make the game 4 disks long or something...

Well at least you get the impression that Jacob doesn't quite trust TIM and is only there because of his fall out with the Alliance and the Reaper threat. Where as Miranda is a good company girl. I am weary that Chambers is less your Yoeman and more of TIM's little agent forwarding intel to TIM.TheTrooper1138 wrote...

but what I have been reading is really interesting, especially the romance with garrus, I get the feeling that the relationship between shep an gar has the potential to become really complex.
What i have been reading is that he’s the friend you don’t sleep with, you know who, most of us have a friend like that.
They could develop this into an impossible relationship, which would be really refreshing instead of the "real love" thing again.

All in the eye of the beholder. Thane = insanely hawt, Garrus = incredibly adorable and a much desired LI, Jacob.. well.. his graphics can look strange from time to time, but his abs are far more impressive than Kaidan's (though Kaidan had a sweeter albeit equally boring personality).
What he said. I actually feel sorry for maleShep. He has the choice between two humans (and let's face it, we've all done humans, there's nothing new there) or one alien. Whereas femShep gets the choice between two aliens or a human. From a writer's POV, you can just do so much more with a human/alien romance than you can with a human/human romance, because parts of it are going to be inevitably frowned upon, if not taboo.
Yep. Pairing up with an alien is a good background for any Shepherd who doesn't sympathise with Cerberus and Terra Firma. You're right that it would have been nice to have a little more feedback on an alien/human pairing - most of the Normandy crew seem to be there for the money, not for Cerberus, and TIM would probably just send Shep one of his creepy line manager 'your decisions are crap, but I'm okay with that if you are, darling' emails if he did anything at all, still, some kind of reaction somewhere would be an improvement.
Most of the game seems set up to draw Shepherd away from being/becoming a loyal Cerberite, if he's in any danger of that at all. I mean, Garrus and Tali are willing to put up with Cerberus at present, but aren't likely to on an indefinite basis. And Miranda doesn't grow fonder of Cerberus over ME2's course and may resign outright. Jacob just doesn't seem to care.
I suppose that all goes to show how bankrupt of moral validity Cerberus is. The game's big dilemma isn't whether to agree with Cerberus or not, but how far to make use of them, your bad means to a hopefully good end.

I seriously wished they had created a better human LI though. The entire dialogue tree with Jacob made me want to just cringe. I'm all for strong female characters, but every option made me feel like I would cheapen my FemShep. There's being forward, and then there's being s l u tt y.

Jacob was terrible. Awesome abs cannot save you from his terrible personality. I couldn't understand if he was a nice guy or a pimp trying to get laid. Not to mention the boring backstory and the talk about how he wasn't good enough for Miranda. What does that make me then? Seriously, who wrote this guy?
WOW. Exactly this. When I first saw Jacob, I thought, Oh cool--eye candy! I mean, what with that nice, tight little suit of his...*ahem*...but then we get to actually know Jacob.
And he's boring as all hell; he replaced Kaidan in the 'completely-dull-safe-soldier-useless-biotic' department. And then when he said that he wasn't good enough for Miranda and I'm here trying to romance him, I was like...wtf?! Now I don't want to romance you anymore buddy! Because I am certainly better than that 'oh-woe-is-me-I'm-perfect' hussie. The only thing that made it slightly okay was that nice little cut scene right before the Suicide mission. And the line where femShep says seductively to Jacob, "Make me" and continously calls him, "Mr. Taylor." Besides that...blah.
Thane needs to stop talking about his dead wife. It worked with Carth because he eventually moved past it, but even then it was awkward. Again, I just feel like a replacement. Why doesn't Bioware go down the road of people having previously bad relationships or relationships just not working out. I am glad I am not the only one to think this. I really like Thane; he's interesting, but the way he talks of his wife in conjunction with his drell eidetic memory, there's just no way my femShep or anyone else for that matter, can really measure up. Which is fine and it gives his character depth, but that just makes him into a really good friend and not love interest. Sorry, not gonna compete with your perfect, dead wife.
Again, we are exactly on the same page. I always saw Garrus as a guy friend--someone I can kick back with, shoot ****, etc lol. Out of curiosity, I tried the romance with him and...omg, it was so ****ing awkward, especially with him talking about "research" and how they would...do this...and I was in non-stop squirm mode. I mean, it was funny and cute as hell, but so...not...working lol.
So yeah, sticking with Kaidan, whom I loved.
Yeah, I romanced him, then killed him off due to his extremely boring nature (sorry Kaidan fans lol). What's funny is that, in the end, due to my fail romances, the only character that seemed like maybe something was possible was actually Samara. Who ends up rejecting you lol (though I'm glad she did). So basically, my Shepard is one big loner and that's fine by me.

Yeah, it's such a shame that FemSheps get to choose between chiseled abs, silver-smooth space ninjas and scarred-up studs. It's such a shame that she can finally taste the alien and racial rainbow in ways ManShep only wishes he could. Such a shame that all the options are different and appeal to a variety she's never had before, like a galactic buffet of hawt. Such a shame that they all express genuine interest in her. Such a shame that none of them have to rely on pink lasers and mind magic to please her. Such a shame.
I am high-fiving the screen right now. Fook year.

Shepard is 29, Tali is 24. How is a 5 year difference cradle robbing? Does the 6 year difference between Miranda (35) and Shepard count as her cradle robbing? How about the 10 year difference between Thane (39) and Shepard? Does that count?
Also: I'm counting Shepard as 29 since s/he spent 2 years dead, and so didnt really age between ME1 and ME2 imo

Nah. Otherwise, your option to reject him wouldn't be "I want to be your friend". That's the entire point of FRIENDS with benefits, isn't it? You have sex, but you're still just friends. I think that conversation is the one that pushes the relationship into something more, but it isn't outright stated.
Also, I too consider Shepard to be 29 since he/she did not really age physically or mentally during those 2 years. So Tali's romance is definitely not "cradle-robbing".
