Pretty much everything first person shooter, but especially Modern Warfare 2. I swear that game's multiplayer feels like it wasn't finished (way to many disconnects to count)
The Nintendo Wii
I'll get back to you guys when I think of an underrated game

Underrated? Star Trek Voyager - Elite Force. One of the few truly story-driven FPS I've come across

Mass Effect 2.
According to the Marketing Campaign: This game is the best game ever!!!!!! It will totally redifine the RPG genre! Baldur's Gate's scifi brother is finally here!
In reality: It was a good game. It was fun to play, but nothing earth-shattering.
Probably a bit hard to call Mass Effect 2 overrated, over hyped may be a better term for it. I for one was mostly dissapointed at how half arsed they aproached carrying over your actions from ME1 to ME2, that being said I still enjoyed the game, it was a huge inprovement on ME1 and I feel that it got the reaction it deserves, especially considering the **** storm the "true RPG fans' kicked up about ME2's combat not being "RPG enough".

Spore is ridiculous. It's one of those games I'd pick up if they released a version with all the expansions/extras, but otherwise I wouldn't buy.
It's barely gone down in price in the UK (from what I can tell) and it's really putting me off buying it, especially when I factor in everything I've heard about it.
Spore was a huge dissapointment, the only thing good about that game was its creation tools and everything else just felt tacked on to give it purpose, seriously the only stage I had any fun in was the cell stage and the rest of the stages were a total bore (space stage was interesting but long winded).
However I must say that while the rest of the game was a bore the creation tools were pretty cool and it was interesting seeing what other players around the globe have created, however unsurprisingly if you give an immature man a creation tool he will try and find a way to create a penis, I myself created a rather realistic looking penis monster that got me banned from the gamespot forums.

Majora's Mask is one of the most underrated games of all time. Everybody must at least consent to this.
My favorite Zelda game, but calling it "underrated" is quite a stretch. It sold very well, and got very good reviews.
I have to agree with Godak here while it is hard to call it underrated I do think that it was probably the best Zelda title released so far. Many Zelda fans seem to think that OOT was the best zelda game and while it may have had a better story Majora's Mask had a much more original setting, more to do and quite frankly I enjoyed it much more than OOT. While it is hard to call it underrated I do think that a lot of Zelda fans dont give it the credit it deserves, of course this is strictly based on personal opinion.

As for being overrated...I think the Assassin's Creed games would fall under this category, IMO. Okay games, but..ehhhhhh....

Black and White underrated? I remember that game had an insane amount of hype before release.
Never heard the hype, purchased it from a bargain bin for $9.99 in some store a few years after it's release. If I knew about then, I would have paid full price for it when it was released. But if you say it had a lot of hype, I'll change it to Tenchu: Stealth Assassins (Another bargin bin for me). If you said that had alot of hype also, I didn't hear of it.

I am going to have to dissagree with this as you pretty much lump the entire FPS genre as overrated, this is purely your opinion, while I do agree that many FPS games released do not show much innovation and instead choose to copy the games that came before them, but to lump an entire genre as overrated is just wrong.
MW2 is a hard one to judge, while it doesnt really bring many innovations to the genre it is still well made and a hell of a lot of fun to play, while many players may give it a bit too much credit I still think a lot of players dont give it the credit it deserves.

Overrated - Halo
While I am not a huge fan of the Halo series and I think that all of its sequels are pretty overrated (especially ODST) I do beleive that a lot of modern FPS games owe a lot to the original Halo.

Oh yeah, World of Warcraft is overrated too. I remember the reputation grinds in that game were such a chore. It was like working, except I was paying to work. Terrible game even though I liked it's art direction.
Haha I agree, while it was fun when I first started playing as you get up through the levels it really starts to get boring and as you said it actually starts to feel like a chore rather than a game, I have no idea how so many players can stand grinding the same instances again and again.

The game went through a very lengthy development cycle. I think I remember seeing screenshots for it back in 1997.
Peter Molyneux, CEO of Lionhead made it out like it was going to be the most reovlutionary strategy game of all time and the game magazines back then agreed with him, especially Next Generation Magazine.

I think FarCry 2 is extremely underrated. I still play that game from time to time and I always enjoy it. Going around, crouching in the brush, sniping some chump in a safari jeep, stealing the jeep then mowing down some gazelle. Whats not to love about that!

Overrated: NWN (PC), Diablo 2 (PC), GTA series (XBOX), Splinter Cell (XBOX)
I only listed games I've actually played. I could make snap judgement calls about other games I feel get too much hype (Assassin's Creed, World of Warcraft, etc.) but having not played them I don't think it's fair for me to judge them.

And then of recent games I've played, Rogue Warrior and SAW The Videogame were both way under rated though I have to admit Rogue Warrior did have some flaws. For one the narration was laced with so much swearing and cursing that it became laughable and the game itself was rather short, I'd say less than ten hours of play time.
