There's very few computer RPG fans out there (folks who've been playing PC RPG's for at least 10 years) that haven't played this game based on my (or someone else's) recommendation that didn't come away with a "Jesus, that game is so freakin' awesome." Yet, the game was a failure.

for me, vampire the masquerade: bloodlines was probably the most underrated game ever made. what a great freaking game that was. one of only two games that i ever played all the way through back to back.
Yes I agree, that's one Iforgot to put in my post.
Actually I have always thought of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines as a poor mans Deus Ex.

I admit Zidane wasn't a top tier Main Character, but i've seen worse. (FFTA Marche, i'm glaring at you!
Oh, that reminds me, FFTA (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) is a fixer-upper, but there was a game in there somewhere. If only it could be fixed... Especially perhaps canning the braindead AI replacing it with something buff, then the stupid Law System wouldn't be needed for game challenge anymore could be canned. I would call FFTA an underrated game, even if it's also in need of some repair.
Lastly, Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. I dunno if it's underrated, but I hardly see mention of it, & it's one of the best tactical RPG games of the GBA, so it sure as heck at least looks like it's underknown. It deserves better. <3Siren class<3 It has pretty good balance as Tactical games go, but some imperfection here there.
Edit: I found the TO: KOL Home Site after this Post, & since i've happened upon this Post again, I spent a moment to Hyperlink the TO: KOL Home Site to this Post to help the game proliferate.

It's dark fantasy as a setting / world / story, Capt. Obvious.
It's not a game where your actions and decisions are (can be) overtly dark (a la GTA or The Suffering or Fallout 2.)
Nah, not saying that. I have observed the histories behind most of the things and some of it can be dark. I guess not dark. I dunno. It's just that when I hear them talking about George R. R. Martin all the sudden the game really doesn't seem that dark. Maybe I should stop comparing.
Anywho, that's just my opinion.

Hi, I go by MerinTB on these forums ...
and I love Black Isle Studios games...
but I've tried Planescape 3 times now and find it impossible to stay interested.
There, now you've met someone.

Underrated: Valkyria Chronicles and Eternal Sonata. Not perfect games, but they were still well done and different (from most games I have ever seen, anyway; feel free to correct me).
Wow, you're brand new and I already love you.

I'd say that World of Warcraft is overrated, but it does trump so many other MMO's that I really can't. I also met too many awesome people during my raiding career.

Stanley Woo's response to the two threads with nearly identical content?
"I don't see a problem."

Haha, thanks. Now I feel oh-so special
But seriously, I really enjoyed Valkyria Chronicles. I found the story engaging, and thought the combat system was very neat and well done. It was definitely a switch from the RPGs I usually play.

That's surprising. I guess he sees them as sufficiently different. I'm beginning to think I'll never understand what exactly does and does not warrant a lock past the most obvious violations. That's why I no longer send report to moderators.

Yes, for a JRPG it was quite innovative. Third person shooter + turn based RPG. Crazy cool.

- Well-designed with vibrant yet subtle colors.
- Interesting take on Japanese mythology.
- Fun combat and gameplay.
- Cool characters, great story, and...
- Awesome!
Overrated: Dante's Inferno PS3 "Diving Edition" -- what was I thinking?
- Hi-res cutscenes were great as well as the interesting take on the circles of Hell and the music was good. Characters and villains were wonderfully and disturbingly designed. However, on the down side...
- Supposedly a special edition, but not well-packaged. I thought the digital poem and soundtrack would come on separate discs but that wasn't the case.
- Annoying mini game and puzzles were not challenging. Combat and maneuvers didn't flow smoothly.
- Weak storyline and didn't care for Dante.
- Unimpressive add-on "The Dark Forest"

And overrated... both left 4 deads... thats a personal vendetta. whats good about any zombie game? movies are ok for thrillers, but really the only story to that series is "lets get out of here." I mean come on add a part where your looking for the cure or something. ughhh im just a gamer of storyline... or reallllly great (balanced) multiplayer. i havent played the 2nd L4D but my friends all do, and i can pretty much say its the same except you can be zombies now. yayyy... awesome ?
L4D2 is similar but different, vastly improved with much better gameplay. I would at least try the game before condemning it. And story was really never the point of the game; you need to play with a group of friends. Not fun otherwise tbh.

I seriously thought he was a talking mushroom until my brother punched me and said no! After he pointed it out, I just thought the little guy was utterly adorable... even when he'd hit on the women! A good reason to keep my PS2.
