Apparently Bioware will be at GDC next week and Christina Norman from Bioware will be there giving a Lecture regarding the radical changes from ME1 to ME2 in terms of gameplay. From the description, it appears that she will try to explain how to make extreme changes within your game without "alienating" your core gamers while at the same time trying to "explain" to your core gamers why these changes were made. Interesting, get a peak for yourself:
-------------------------------------

Where Did My Inventory Go? Refining Gameplay in Mass Effect 2Speaker/s: Christina Norman (Bioware)
Day / Time / Location: Saturday 9:00-10:00 Room 135, North Hall
Track / Format: Game Design / Lecture
Description: Creating a sequel to a successful game presents unique challenges: If you introduce significant change you run the risk of alienating existing players, but significant improvements sometimes require significant change. In this session, BioWare lead gameplay designer Christina Norman will discuss how a small vision shift lead to radical design changes in Mass Effect 2s combat gameplay and RPG systems. Lessons learned will be presented, including the challenge of communicating gameplay changes to the existing player community.
Eligible Passes:  All Access PassMain Conference Pass
----------------------------------------

Lucky for me, I will be at GDC to promote/network for my new RPG/FPS videogame site/blog. I already have a few lectures/panels/roundtables to attend that are around 9AM on Saturday, but I will make it my best efforts to see if I could atleast attend the first 30 min of this lecture....if not the whole thing.

In me1 i kinda had no inventory, i used to equip the best thing after every mission and sell all the rest. (I kept only a few armor/weapon improvement with me, and i used to change it depending on the enemy).

Considering I'm feeling kinda alienated, I'd kinda like to hear the arguments behind this.

Interesting. But perhaps before giving lectures on how to make radical changes to a game without alienating it's existing fanbase they should learn how to make radical changes to a game without alienating it's existing fanbase. Because that's exactly what they did. And the way those changes where communicated by members of the dev team and moderators left something seriously to be desired (basically "If you don't like it then this game isn't for you anymore").

That's impossible. Nobody has done that. There'll always be people complaining how they liked the previous system better

No it's just ignorant to say ME2 was just as much of an RPG as ME1.

Why did I ever remove that sig ... I love pissing off people that don't see past ME1's illusion of items/stats

Obviously you have no idea what an RPG is about then. Hate to tell you most people out there say ME1 was more RPG and ME2 more shooter. In modern terms that is. We aren't talking about going back to the Fallout 1 days.

Ok, I'll bite, how is ME2 any less of an RPG than ME1 ?

Um no, ME1 was a shooter more than RPG. Like it or not but this is a fact a bad shooter to make it exact. But than again why do I have to raise my voice towards the vocal minority which nit picks and cries about every single detail?

Minority? Again how can you prove that? Now you are just being stupid to say ME1 was more shooter than ME2. Nobody can in their right mind draw that as a logical conclusion. Almost everyone else on these forums would disagree with you whether they like ME1 or ME2. I done arguing with you though if you are that ignorant. Obviously your "whine about whiners" crap carries the same condescending childishness that gets most threads locked. Grow up. I am sick of the action/shooter people acting as though their opinion is somehow more valid than those who enjoyed ME1 more.

Easily:

http://social.biowar...596/polls/1670/

GameSpot's user score for ME1 is 8.9 (PC) and 9.1 (360), while for ME2 is 9.3 (PC) and 9.4 (360)

And that takes into account everyone who has bought the game? ME2 is a great game, but there is a lot of people out there who feel like they removed too many of ME1's elements that made it great.
