edit: dont have time to switch between ammos? please, it takes 1s, you just can't be bothered.

It's 1 second + 1.5 second cooldown which locks out adrenaline rush.  It matters in close fights.  You may not think it does, but it does.  Switching ammo in the middle of a fight is awkward and occasionally dangerous.

Couldn't agree more here. Personally, I think inferno works better as squad ammo, because the panic time actually matters. If your using AP ammo, panicing matters less because they're dead sooner.

Also, what's this LMG you're talking about?

Large Machine Gun aka Revenant

squad incendiary instead of inferno? no thanks. i'd rather have squad disruptor or squad cryo if cc is what you're going for. it takes about the same time to switch ammos as it does to switch weapons, and its not long. the only time it would be "dangerous" is if a melee'er is coming to batter you, and that's easily solved by hitting them first to stagger them, should be able to do HAR straight after.
and its "light" machine gun, not large. a large machine gun (which i think is properly called a Heavy Machine Gun) is like a turret or something, but w/e, it's not a mobile weapon.

I never died after Horizon as a soldier on insanity

Came close on the husk rush in the suicide mission, though

Also, I never used inferno ammo (only 1 point in incendiary ammo)

Soldier is easy as long as you keep yourself at medium or long range and dont let enemies flank you. All you do is keep spamming adrenaline rush, start with sniper, clean up with revenant.

hah, I would argue Soldier is the most powerful class in the game. Adrenaline Rush is probably the most powerful class-specific talent, you have ammo for every situation, you have Sniper Rifle for distant targets AND Revenant for everything else. Soldier has by far most health points. IMHO Soldier is the most powerful and easiest to play.

Agreed, if you're having trouble stop wasting an extra talent on geth shield, barrier or fortification because hardened adrenaline works better. Now put something useful in that extra talent such as tungsten ammo which is amazing and rips through armor/health like no other plus a revanent machine to make even the last boss easy to kill.

Agreed.  Don't know why people bother with Geth Shield, Barrier, or Fortification.  You can only use one ability at a time and have to wait for the cooldown before you are able to use another ability so you only need 1 damage reduction ability and hardened adrenaline rush will serve as that for you as a soldier.  Even if you use the widow and heightened adrenaline rush, you basically will be fighting at long range for the most part and thus won't really need the damage reduction ability.

i think i might be a minority here in saying soldier is my favorite class.  You have a simple strategy, lay down tons of firepower and micro manage your team.  I rely on overload for shields so Garrus and Miranda are good.  As a Soldier I need tons of ammo and cycle through all my weapons to use it from a "home base" cover fire.

It might be "tougher" to use but still simple in strategy.

I love playing as a soldier, using adrenaline rush combined with an assault rifle or Sniper can be very deadly. I am a simple man with simple tastes, i like things that go boom and weapons that make things go boom. Being a soldier I get five weapons and lots of boom to go around, lol.

Soldiers bring the pain but when enemies have shields and barriers its like hitting a brick wall.

when playing through as a different class the game seemed easier but you lose the good ole' reliable assault rifle with other classes

Huh?  Assault rifles in general wither shields and barriers quickly, even without the optimum ammo type. On insanity everything has at least a secondary layer of defense, and I've never experienced this brick wall sensation you speak of, especially after upgrades.

Soldier is the easiest and arguably the most powerful class in ME2. Its just point and shoot and everything drops around you. Adept on the other hand I find to be somewhat difficult in terms of versatility versus certain types of situations.

I was an Adepter in ME1, and Mainly a Vanguard in me2 (with iinfiltrator and sentinel thrown in) and i really want to play through on Soldier but i just find it kinda boring. :( i never really like to play the point and shoot thing, ironically i love FPS but in ME2 i like powers and doohickies.

Heightened vs. Hardened is like a Dex vs. Con argument to me.  I prefer Heightened because I feel that getting hit less is better than taking less damage when hit, but it's only a preference.  It also slows time enough to just walk around them...  like Neo.  Whoah.

I keep saying this in other threads, but just use a Medi-gel and save yourself 10 points in a bonus power.

Lastly, everyone should calculate the RoF for each weapon, then see how many bullets it takes to kill an enemy with Tungsten vs. Inferno, then judge how well you appreciate Inferno's AoE CC effect and anit-regen power, then decide whether or not Tungsten is the end all power you think it is.

Judging by the videos sinosleep/averagegatsby/theisme8 are making, I'd have to disagree with the OP.

I beat the game on Insanity-with hardly any deaths at all. Nothing fancy like those guys, but there are occasions that both of my teammates are dead and I finished the battle alone. The survivability of a soldier is very high, I would say higher than a Sentinel but I have not played the class yet.

I would have to say that Soldier is my favorite class. I love the RP aspect, and the ability to use assault rifles. It was very fun to play on insanity (there were a few frustrating parts, I'll admit).

Hopefully my last statement about ammo: In the end after comparing all of the ammos, I realized that even on insanity, there was no MAJOR difference, the most extreme case was a difference of 8 shots (and I may have missed). So I will be using the AP rounds because I like the little symbol next to my gun the best. :D

Here's another strong point of the soldier class, the widow is an actually viable option since we already have all the gun training so, those disapointed snipers of infiltrator, soldier could be the class for you. I personally prefer running into bullets and dishing out 80 rounds of heavy ammunition than pulling out my mantis to snipe the heavy across the map but all this means is our class is very flexible. I suggest for bonus abilities that snipers have heavy warp ammo and gunners have tungsten ammo. Soldier might not be the mass effect 1 tank but I use collector armor and hardened adrenaline and I can still tank in slow mo.

Being new to the ME games and having played a few FPS classics (Wolfenstein 3D, Doom2, Half Life 1+2, Counterstrike, Fear) the soldier class seemed natural to me. I think it's a great class for newcomers. It's straightforward and easy to get a hang of for shooter fans.

Soldiers are certainly a versatile class, with an ammo type for every situation. I chose disrupter and warp ammo (bonus power) as counter ammo.

I don't agree with enitrely with the notion that you need bionics for stripping defences. Once you get the Revenant, the closet you can get to a LMG, defences go down for most enemies at alarming rates (for the baddies).

I would choose the Revenant over de Widow. Certainly, the Widow packs a huge punch. But the Revenant is so deadly with AR and at medium/close ranges. And with a huge clip, you'll frequently be playing Rambo as you maul the opposition single-handedly.

Squaddies are mainly there for CC after you get the Revenant. You do the killing if you're aggressive.

At least on difficulties under insanity. I'll be playing an Adept next, just to feel the difference. But the soldier already captured my heart.

Boring?   You have all the guns.  You can snipe a Merc's head off with the Widow, you can shotgun blast a Krogan in the face with the Eviscerator and you can dismantle anything with repeated headshots from the Vindicator or laugh like a madman as you mow down anything that moves with the Revenant.

I just wish, you could get the Revenant and the Widow at the same time. Well that and that I could swap the Tempest in for my pistol, I love my Vindicator; but it would be nice to have something full auto on my hip instead of the hand cannon which is just a less accurate, less powerful version of my Vindicator.

I play this game (and most games) very aggressively. I like charging in on the Vanguard. I enjoy throwing out a combat drone on my engineer and charging the enemy with SMG fire. I love getting in close on the infiltrator while cloaked and surprising enemies.

I thought the soldier would be the most in-your-face of all the classes, but I was dissapointed to find that it was the class I had to play most defensively. Adrenaline Rush is really great, but with the damage you take on Insanity, I'm still hiding behind cover and just popping out to AR/shoot. Soldier is good, and the damage was high, it just wasn't any fun for me.

I guess it just never felt like a challenge.

What conclusions you guys reached about Adrenaline Rush? Heightened x Hardened?
.
The seconds seemed a natural choice to me but know I'm seeing the first give a bigger damage bonus plus the fact that it makes the time go even slower, so enemys fire less, doing less damage.
