"Sorry Shepard, I can't join you on this one. I'm hunting down Aria T'loak, and when I find her, I'll hit her with a tech proximity mine so powerful what's left of her will fit inside a soup can!"

Which one is the best romance option, do i stay with the now dark almost evil liara or go for the interesting innocent tali?
Tali as a romance option seems almost incestuous so definitely not her. Liara is the reason Shepard is alive. I'd hardly call her evil - she's in over her head and is doing a bad job at trying to act her new part.

Listen I don't prescribe to the Liara is evil now notion but she's certainly not acting. She gets Shepard's help in order to initiate a hit and kills her secretary when she realizes who she's aligned with. She's not pretending.

Except for the fact that Tali and Shep aren't related in any way whatsoever, or that Shep has had NO part in raising her. Sure, I guess.

What were people? I don't understand.
I know they're not actually related - that's obvious - but there was a definite younger sister vibe from Tali in ME and that made the fan service in-love-with-Shep seem very, very awkward. In addition, with metagaming we know she won't die from it, but what kind of nutter Shep would do the Tali scene knowing full well the risks.

Her secretary is a threat to her life. By acting, I simply mean her attempt to copy her mother's line and vocal inflections.

Big deal, Shepard is the reason both of them are alive.
Tali (saved from Fist's gang on the Citadel and geth on Haestrom)
Liara (saved from geth on Therum)
I pick the one who actually shows some loyalty by returning to Shepard's side. Tali could have just as easily said she had to hunt down the geth(like Liara w/Shadow Broker), that she would never work for Cerberus (Kaiden/Ash), or that she had a responsibility to her people(Wrex). But no, Tali and Garrus prove their loyalty to Shepard even before their individual missions.
I pick Tali.

To be fair, they all thought there was a good chance they were going to die anyway. Its not as if Tali didn't take medical precautions and I think if she seriously thought there was a chance she could die from the encounter at that point she wouldn't do it.

Well she seems to be doing a fairly good job since she is feared and respected. And I'm not condemning Liara in the slightest, I think she went with the most sensible option under the circumstances - but its another sign that she's not just faking her new role. She may be pulling a few cues from her mother but she's apparently doing them effectively enough for a threat of violence to elicit compliance from a difficult customer.

I was cool with Wrex's reasons for not coming. He was clearly so busy that if he left all that he had accomplished would be loss. Wrex is definitely just as loyal to Shep in my book as Garrus/Tali.

I find the 'younger sister vibe' thing funny because If anything, Liara came off as younger in ME1 (14-16 ish vs. 20ish Tali.) Plus, the Asari are nearly fan service as a race. For my own opinion, I found nearly all of Liara's romance in ME1 to be the very definition of awkward. I like her as a character very much but on the romance level, she gave me creepy pedophile vibe. I never got the sister vibe from Tali in ME1 but I did get the romance vibe on my first playthrough. When I didn't actually know who the real romances were.
As for the risks, those were covered pretty well via dialogue with both Tali and Mordin.
But to answer the OP, the best relationship is the one you like the best. Simple as that really. A forum vote isn't going to decide that for you. Pick the one your Shep connects best with. They're both great characters with lots of devoted fans. I really hope both romances move forward in ME3. I suspect Liara is going to surprise alot of people next game (in a good way).

Agreed on all points.
