There is no canon, except YOUR canon folks, dragon age is the ultimate personal roleplaying game and i don't think there should be any one origin which is slated as "canon" because that doesnt do other people who chose differant origins any justice.

THIS.  And it's true of the rest of BioWare's RPGs too, except KOTOR and BG, which were from other people's creative properties, and therefore BioWare had no control over the canonization.

My "canon" is a more-or-less good human female mage who puts Anora on the throne, takes Morrigan's offer, and merrily runs off with Alistair into sin and adventure.  Doesn't wrap things up as cleanly as the HNF queen ending, but I don't care.  Alistair's more fun without that stupid crown on his pretty head

According to the lore, the Qunari use cannon in battle.

And yet, there he is.

He grows up significantly after the Landsmeet.

Why couldn't he have grown up after Ostagar. I never used him again after i first got Sten on my first playthrough except at the Landsmeet then i spared Loghain and got rid of him.

What i'm intrested in is, from the penny arcade comic story, this throw away statement about orlesian treachery.

Now ofc it could be just nothing, but what if like the notes you find in rto, if the couslands was friendly with say envoys of the empress, Arl Howe knew about this, and was one of the reason for his attack on the couslands, cause i find it hard to belive that loghain didn't know or allowed a attack like this to not have any impact.

Could be a plot hole which isn't explained in origins but could be in the next parts of the comic or in awakening.

as per origion stories some were much better than others.

HNF or HNM is a perfect canon fit

Dwarf Noble I really enjoyed because of the dwaren politics and the felling of royalty. I actually never spoke to anyone less than me I. " Gorim is this that address me as If I would speak to them"

The mage is okay? I just wished I could recruit Jowan

Dwarf commoner- sucked IMO

Dalish is by far the worst one which is a shame

city Elf was the first one I ever did which was shocking at first I liked that one

Shocking .. Because the best origin imo was the commoner one and the city elf sucked. The mage one was boring..The human noble was fine..The dalish elf one was boring and the dwarf noble was awesome.

Dwarf Commoner got pretty stupid once you started killing the whole carta which you supposedly was a low member of. If you are so much better than the rest of the Carta, why wasn't you already leading them? It got better once you returned to Orzammar though.

Mage was okay. Jowan was a little too whiney though. Can't imagine having him as a friend.

Dwarf Noble was really good. The best of the three that I've played.

I hate canon because it's never the way I'd like it. Just look at KOTOR; they didn't have the balls to go against traditional gender roles and make Darth Revan canonically a woman.

I'm seriously hoping they choose the HNF for the canon character instead. They always make the canon characters male. But I feel like the female one fits the canon better, since she's more involved with Alistair usually.

Agreed, I'm sick of the main character in so many stories defaulting into being male - this is a fantasy game, after all, and as such women can have a little more freedom than they did in human history.

Similarly I get sick of so many stories about men avenging or saving or adventuring for their sons ... why can't men love and cherish their daughters just as much?

Stereotypes ****** me off, they're all the same.

And seeing as I played Revan as a woman first it never fealt right to me that she should officially be a man.  Likewise I played the protagonist from KotoR2 as a male first and thus could never swallow it being a woman officially.  Why can't they just ask my opinion before deciding on these things?  (though, really, Revan was the cooler character and as such would have made a better woman)

Because Carth was hot, and the Handmaiden was infinitely more useful than Disciple?  And I agree--they screwed the pooch with the reversed genders of how it should be.  Funnily enough, most writers seem to be ignoring the 'official' male-ness of Revan, keeping her (HER!) wrapped up in armor, and only using the male pronoun on Revan because English lacks a gender neutral designation.

At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the male human noble Origin was the 'official' one.  After all, look at the CG trailers.  Same with Mass Effect--I'm sure many people were actually surprised you could play as FemShep.  Apparently, women are meant to be seen and not played. :/

i've noticed that in alot of games its always males that are the main storyline i think women get neglected in these type of games which really isnt fair as the hnf would be the most obvious and best by far canon it makes the most sense as the couslands were a major factor in da and female human noble would fit with alistair better to

Yet on the other side of the storyline, one could argue the HNM would be a better choice because of Morrigan and the god baby.  But then we'd get nowhere.

And then it just boils down to what your perspectives are (I just gave mine :P )

all i meant is there are more male hero games out there than there is female hero games it would be nice for once if there was an option for both or if us women got some attention for a change but i get your meaning maybe an option for male or female would make most happy :}

it comes down simple capitalism. Even though the female/male gaming ratio is slowly equalising, males are still in majority and thus are the main target audience, as it means equals more money.

Heh, I understand (in regards to your previous post as well), being in the minority as well.  It's ALWAYS the white hero (not to bring up the race card, but why never an Asian or black hero?)

Give it time, all we can do currently. It'll be more equal eventually. As more women game, more get into the industry and thus we'll have more games with females or preferably both sexes as playable options. It'll take time however.

Many males can and don't mind. I'm one of them. I can even roleplay as a female. However a large portion of the male gaming population can not picture themselves playing a woman because the imagine themselves in the game and thus have to be male.

There's basically two camps of people, those who play as themselves in game, and those who don't.
And since both camps can play male it's an easy choice for developers if you're forced to choose due to development cost.

true but then the other sex is gonna feel jipped if they got to play as the opposite sex instead of what gender they want to be which is totally unfair on both genders coz neither wants to be forced to play opposite sexes

I don't see where that is HNM in those trailers, that is Alistair, Sten, Morrigan, and Lelianna.

I also have to go with HNF. Fits the best.
